Thank you for reaching out. It's always great to have another friend!
The group is okay but, like anything, it's what you put into it that creates what you get out of it. I find that avoiding the cattle call of authors promoting their books is a better way to find readers.
Easier said than done!

I hope you have a strong stomach. :) However, that book, and book 2 Rascals Sing at The Opera House are my true memories of being seven. Except I changed the venue and the endings to a happy ones. In real life I was banned from seeing my best friend, ever again. :)
