The content changes as outdated information is removed new new information inserted, not necessarily in equal amounts. The layout design changes with each new edition, and that can affect page count. In the case of my most popular book, Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew, the page count of the third edition, published in 2019, is less than the earlier editions published in 2012 and 2005. This was a conscious decision to delete outdated passages and streamline the book's core information as parents' have indicated increased need for focus and concision. The autism world is constantly evolving, so staying true to the book's timeless appeal means keeping it updated. I've tried without success to get Goodreads to reflect the most recent editions of the book. It goes without saying that readers don't benefit from being directed to outdated editions, but it appears to all hinge on algorithms that apparently can't be overridden.(less)

It almost always qualifies copyright violation under the law. I have an intellectual property attorney who intervenes in egregious cases. (less)

“Presuming that a nonspeaking child has nothing to say is like presuming that an adult without a car has nowhere to go.”
Ellen Notbohm, Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew

“If we can't start by seeing an autistic child as inherently capable, interesting, and valuable, no amount of education or therapy we layer on top is going to matter.”
Ellen Notbohm, Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew

“The word “autistic” is accurate. But so are other words that we no longer use to describe people: spinster (unmarried woman), hobo (migrant worker), cripple (person with a physical handicap), and so on. The fact that a person is unmarried or has sustained a mobility-reducing injury or birth defect certainly figures into their life experiences, but it does not define their character—unless they or we let it.”
