This quote really resonated and hit home for me. For me this was an expression of someone overcoming the abuse put upon them by a guardian. I felt the same way when I finally cut my abusive parents out of my life. My mother would always take credit for the person I became, but I became the person I am despite her. That's probably why I connected with Sydney so much. You don't owe your abuser(s) anything.
