Hamlet’s near-contempt for acceptance, his refusal to “settle” into the role expected of him, feels less like petulance and more like a moral resistance. He has every right to defy. The marriage of Claudius and Gertrude is presented not merely as incestuous, but uncanny an act that disrupts the natural order while pretending to restore stability, it is presented very explicitly and subtly both. It was sudden, and changed the order. The man seems put together and overly neutral, which is never a good look to begin with. Denmark itself feels uneasy, watchful, held together by pageantry rather than truth. The late king’s presence lingers heavily, not as nostalgia but as a standard against which everything now feels lesser. Compare him to the hysteria Claudius presents.

What fascinates me is Hamlet’s paradox: a prince devoted to reason and logic, yet so swiftly persuaded by the Ghost’s narrative, how convincing could it be. There is irony in how readily he trusts a phantom presence while remaining skeptical of the living world around him. His agreement to abandon his academic life wherein he'd be required to move seemingly to honour his mother reads as reluctant compliance rather than reconciliation. She wants him to 'seem' less sad, every attempt of his seems to mirror an adjacent attempt to make space for her while deny the reasoning behind current events and change. Even his address of Gertrude as “madam” carries a cold formality, signalling emotional distance masked as decorum.

I’m not torn to pieces as of just yet, at least. It does have the tragic appeal to it. I’m particularly having a hard time denoting a proper advantageous meaning to the act itself. A lot to note about the state of Denmark itself. The late king left quite an impression. They contemplate some tension, but nothing remarkably present.
