My TBR is so long I often don't know where to begin, but this summer I've got a handful of great books in mind to read:

1. Lor Gislason's Inside Out (A goopy, drippy body horror sounds like the perfect complement to this sticky start to the summer.)

2. Brad Gooch's Scary Kisses (Just started this one, following a young queer man in 1980s New York.)

3. V. Castro's The Haunting of Alejandra (I actually don't know much about this one, but everything I've read by Castro so far has been amazing, so I'm excited to dive in.)

4. Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Silver Nitrate (Mexican Gothic was so good, and I am super excited for this one to come out.)

5. Ling Ma's Bliss Montage (This one has been near the top of my TBR pile since it came out, and I think this summer will be the perfect time to finally dive in.)(less)

Here's a short playlist I've curated to set the mood for the strange exploits of Harry Ypsilanti and Lorene Brandt.

“I cannot sleep unless I am surrounded by books.”

bell hooks
“I will not have my life narrowed down. I will not bow down to somebody else's whim or to someone else's ignorance.”
bell hooks

John Steinbeck
“I have always lived violently, drunk hugely, eaten too much or not at all, slept around the clock or missed two nights of sleeping, worked too hard and too long in glory, or slobbed for a time in utter laziness. I've lifted, pulled, chopped, climbed, made love with joy and taken my hangovers as a consequence, not as a punishment.”
John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

James Baldwin
“All art is a kind of confession, more or less oblique. All artists, if they are to survive, are forced, at last, to tell the whole story; to vomit the anguish up.”
James Baldwin

“The wind is the moon's imagination wandering.”
