Nope, I HNR Some Girls Bite.
HYR The Regional Office Is Under Attack! by Manuel Gonzales

Enjoyed Some Girls Bite, a different take on vampires and great start to an urban fantasy series. Vamps in this series are not dead, but are genetically altered. After conversion, they enjoy an extended life span, only occasionally need blood, but are light sensitive and must avoid the sun. The vamps have just come out of the closet (not dead so coffin does not work) and Chicago is adjusting to the presence of blood drinkers even if they are law abiding and not killing people.

Have you read The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined by Steven Pinker

Have not read this book, but it sounds interesting. I only think that violence has declined in the number of one-on-one encounters (not too many duels at dawn in the modern age). When one considers horrific events such as the Holocaust, I don't think that the case for a decline in violence can be argued. Glad that you posted this title!

HYR The Floating Island (The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme, #1) by Elizabeth Haydon

I've been very depressed by world events but this actually gave me hope. It's a long book but he covers every aspect from spanking to torture to battles.
Haven't read book you posted but sounds interesting. Love those "fragments of old books" adventures!
Have you read The Book of Unholy Mischief by Elle Newmark

HYR Silence Fallen* (Mercy Thompson, Book 10) by Patricia Briggs
?
*Just finished this book and found it one of the most moving books in the Mercy Thompson series. I especially enjoyed the parts with Bran Cornick, the Marrok, and would love to see him spun off into his own series. He is the best tragic, flawed hero in the entire series.

HYR Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs

Julia wrote: ". . . I almost went back and read all the Matt Smith parts, as a "Doctor Who" follower, and a follower of this series. I would read books about Bran, absolutely. . ."
I figured out early on that Bran was incognito as "Matt Smith," but that only made those scenes more delightful!
Yes, I love Charles and Anna and have actually recently reread Cry Wolf. It was better the second time around--always a reflection of a great story.
You used Changing Planes in one of the games today. I am an Ursula K. Le Guin fan, but must have missed this one. HYR it? How did you like it?
