Hi, Roswita! Thanks so much for asking--and it's a good question, too. :)

I would say that I do this 50% of the time. It really depends on where my mind is at, especially if I'm looking for a new story or plotting one. Someone might have an interesting physical tick that I expand upon for a character or an interesting way of talking. I try hard not to use a lot of personal details (hardships, personal problems) from those I know; I usually read the news or articles for ideas on those sorts of character details. I also "interview" my characters with a set of questions I keep handy, and their lives get fleshed out from that technique.

Thank you so much! I hope I answered your question. :)

It's true that Penguin Roc won't be publishing any more Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire books. : ( But I'm not ruling out indie publishing in the future if there's enough interest out there (and if I get permission to continue the series). It'd be great if both could happen!

Thank you so much for asking. (less)

Gina Conkle Hi Chris,
I was looking at your Christine Cody books and decided to buy Bloodlands (that's the first of the series, right?). BTW, when I typed "Bloodlands" in B&N, since I'm a Nook person, your book came up first over other similarly titled books. Yay Chris! Ok, now I'm off to buy Bloodlands. :-)
Have a great day-
Gina

Chris Marie Green Hey, everyone!

SD, did you make it to those conferences? I'll be at the Tucson Book Festival in early March, as well as the Southern California Writers conference the week after, then RT in early May. Hope I get to see you at one of them!

Chris, thank you! I still have a lot of catching up to do (as in figuring out how to work everything, LOL).

Mary, thank *you*! I've been lucky enough to be on a reading binge these past couple of days. That's what happens when I have a week or so between deadlines.

Melissa, hey! That party really was a blast. I'd love to do another chat. I wish you could've won one of the three-book packages I was sending out--or even a Buffy book! Did you win anything? And, yes, I'm so happy we made buddies. : )

S.D. I'm near Hammond, IN. Lived on the Illinois side until 13 years ago. Columbus, OH has a mystery conference coming up Nov 7 at the Embassy Suites. It's called Bodies and Buckeyes. You should check it out. Also, Bouchercon (the largest mystery conference) will take place in Indianapolis on Oct 15-18. I'll be in Indy but can't make OH.
