If no one has noticed we are creeping closer and closer to 2,000 group members. We will probably go over by the New Year as people are looking to set reading goals for next year. I remember when it was just 100 of us!

Sharon, it's so exciting! I think we'll hit 2,000 very soon (the Welcome Committee was saying that it'd be super cool to hit 2,014 members before the New Year, and I agree). We'll do something special for the group when we hit 2,500.
How do I set up my group info for the 2014 reading challenge?

It always felt SO GOOD to finally be done with them and then do nothing but sleep for two weeks.

Indeed! We will be closely keeping track as we send welcome messages to each new influx of members to see if we make it to 2,014 by 2014 :D

To set up your challenge within the group, go here. As far as the official Goodreads version tracked within the site itself, it doesn't appear to be up yet, but we'll post an announcement once it is.

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you have a wonderful day. We're in Dallas for the day, and it's so nice to not have any snow (I never really want a white Christmas).
What are your plans?
Yesterday was a pydjies days. Todays is work. I see my family only on New Year.Have a merry Christmas too!
Merry Christmas, everyone! Turkey's in the oven, and I have The Golem and the Jinnion my iPod. It's a quiet holiday for us this year.
Happy Christmas everyone! I'm in a bit of a food coma right now and am playing some Uno while waiting for Doctor Who. Hope everyone else is having a good time :)
Merry Christmas! Opened presents this morning, baked casseroles for brunch, and am now settling down with a book for a quiet afternoon. Have a fabulous holiday everyone!
Merry Christmas! We celebrate on the 24th, so today is just slacking in PJs, getting stuffed with leftover chocolate, and gleefully putting a gift card to use in the kindle store.
I am so glad to not have a quiet Christmas this year. For the last few years it has just been my parents and I and my Nana when she was feeling up to it. This year my brother's family came to join us. It is so fun to see young kids on Christmas morning. Hopefully in a few days, I will take the ferry over to my sister's so I can see her family too.Merry Christmas to you all!
Merry Christmas everyone! Had a nice peaceful day at hone with my parents and am now watching the original Producers. Looking forward to spending my Kindle gift cards and add to my ever growing TBR list! Hope you all had a pleasant day with family and loved ones!
I would like to vent and I hope that's ok. I have been a book collector since I was 16 years old. There is approximately 20 years worth of work. I have accumulated nearly 1,600 books. I learned last night that because I had to leave them behind in a quick country move that I lost them all. My count is about 20 now. It has broke my heart and few people can understand the feel of that loss. I'm trying to look on the bright side. At least now I don't have to worry about duplicating books and I have a chance to improve my collection. For me the books were always an escape from the world when I needed a quick trip away. Please keep your fingers crossed that I can slowly rebuild. Thanks for listening!
I'm so sorry, Colby, that must be horrible. I hate even the thought of losing all of my books, and I only have around 200. So many of them have such sentimental value though. I'm sure you will be able to rebuild your collection, and from now on you won't feel guilty about buying more books. Good luck :)
Oh no, Colby!!! I'm so sorry. :( I am confident that you will rebuild your personal library! It'll just take some time, but you will do it. *hugs*

Non-readers or at least non-book collectors might not understand, but anyone that reads a lot and collects books knows that collections are very personal accomplishments to be (deservedly) very proud of. They allow you to see what and how much you've learned and accumulated over the years.
I hope you manage to rebuild a new collection quickly and in the process discover other books with new ways to escape the world for a little while.

And I hope that your new place comes with one or more good bookstores that can help you rebuild.
