I kind of got that impression too, Rae. I feel like it's the belief that all Black women are hard and tough. I think that we are strong and survivors, but some of us are soft and do wear our hearts on our sleeves. Maybe she was just trying to make a contrast to Brandon. I go back and forth. I don't think she was trying to stereotype Black women, but since she didn't spend enough time on Angelina, it might have come off different than she wanted.

That describes me to a T. :) I have quite a few books that I've never really read all the way through since my "skimming" didn't show anything to make me want to read from cover to cover. I really need to stop that.

Ethel (Abdallared) | 3595 comments I really enjoyed Many Shades Of Gray by Dyanne Davis... Both the hero and the heroine both had real issues that needed to be resolved before they could go forward in their relationship....

Oh I skim as well. I'm a champion skimmer. If the parts lend nothing to the story I don't see why I should bother with it

Sometimes I think there can be too much drama in a romance novel. It gets in the way of my enjoyment factor. I have to be in the mood for it.

LOL Eugenia, I did throw it across the room several times. It took me a month to read it. I'm sure it elevated my blood pressure and cholestrol levels!

Ethel (Abdallared) | 3595 comments I agree with the mood thing... Sometimes I want charters to piss me off,but it will keep me reading to find out what happens... Sometimes I like the instant chemistry that you have to act on... Other I like when you try to fight the chemistry but have to eventually give in to it... Sometimes I pickup a book read a chapter and that I'm not into this and put back in my pile for another time... I think moods have alot to do with what one reads...

Sometimes I just want a sweet love story where the h/h look into each others eyes and know it's forever. Those are nice because I know life isn't quite that easy. I hate reading about adultery and kids dying and stuff like that in a romance novel. It totally ruins my buzz.

I like the fiery passion, too. But I want it to be special between the h/h. Personally, it doesn't work for me if I feel like it's just sex and it could be another person that's with the h or h. I want their feelings to be unique for both of them.

Ethel (Abdallared) | 3595 comments My last input for today I'm on my way to work.... They differently have to that fire for each other... The Grand Passion as they say....

Have a good work day, Abdallared. :)

Ursula (ursularenee) | 2 comments I enjoyed reading Rock Star by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb. Roslyn did a good job developing Callie and Bryan, allowing it to grow over time. I also like how she weaved Bryan's history into the story.

Oh I remember that one! I think it was a dnf for me. Couldn't finish it and the next book in my pile kept enticing me to read it more heh. Kudos to Ms. Davis for the risk though!

My favorite of hers is still The Color of Trouble. The heroine gets on my nerves like crazy but the passion between her and the hero and the back story made up for it for me. :-)

Ethel (Abdallared) | 3595 comments I also liked The Color of Trouble and Let's Get It
On by Dyanne... I could relate to that story in some ways because I used to be married to a Somolian who was Muslim... I so enjoyed Rock Star....
