What's the best interracial book you've read recently?

I'm like when I know it's a series I try to wait but sometimes you don't know.......

What's the matter Justine?

So last year she came out with a website and on it she claimed that the publisher would not publish her books coz they didn't think there was a market for them!!!!!! Can you imagine that???!?!?! I don't understand why a publisher would publish a Lora Leigh book (no offense to any fans) and not one of hers. That's just beyond me.
Anyhow, she was going into self-publishing and nothing since then. Absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!
Like the MTA here in NYC - she's just playing with me now!!!!!!!!

Scandal In Copper Lake
It's good to see Silhouette adding an interracial romance.
The cover is nice. The girl is pretty, but the man does nothing for me. Poorly placed shadowing in my opinion.
Anywho, that is neither here nor there. The book itself is actually decent. I liked the chemistry between the couple even though the guy is a bit of a spoiled, rich, ne'er-do-well.
I would classify it was more of a mystery than a suspense. I wasn't really on edge or waiting with bated breath in regards to any particular element of the story.
Basic premise: Girl returns to childhood town to investigate details of her early childhood and her mother's untimely death. Boy is sent to spy on her. They fight a mutual atrraction for an eternity (72 hours) before yielding in to an undeniable passion. Blah, blah, blah. Yaddah, yaddah, yaddah. You get the picture.

As soon as I win the lotto - I will publish and market her books myself

I'm glad you liked Taking Care of Business, Shunda. It's in the tbr pile. With everything else. I am currently on a Christine Feehan mini-glom. I went and bought most of her Carpathian books. Sucked into another series. :)

Don't you dare mention another series. New_User caught me with the Darkyn series. And my life has pretty much come to a stop since. I've read Dark Possession- the true IR one. But I refused to be hooked on any series any more :-). Two is enough!

Well you're a strong woman if you were able to stop at one Feehan. I am sucked into her writing. She does have some favorite phrases she uses, but she's such a good writer.

Abdallared I read a lot of paranormal, so many are in that genre. Some favorites of mine: JR Ward, Kresley Cole, Christine Feehan, Nalini Singh. I wish there was more interracial/African American paranormal series. Unfortunately there are not many. I'll try to think of more.

I read the first Darkyn. It was really good. I have the rest on my tbr/tbb pile.

Yes, indeed. I am addicted to Christine Feehan's books. There, I've admitted I have a problem. LOL!

Danielle, you can't stop there!!!! You must continue on :-)

You know I didn't think I would like it either. But as long as the paranormal person is the good guy -I'm down with that
I will continue. I need to get more organized with my reading. I even break the second Darkyn book with me. It's in the bedside table.
I like the books where the paranormal person in the couple is the guy. For some reason I didn't like it as much when the hero is human and the heroine is paranormal. I'm not crazy about witch paranormals either, but a good author wins me over as long as they aren't preaching paganism.

I haven't read many witch books either, but yeah, as long as they're not "blood of newt, and eye of crow," I don't mind. If they're like any other paranormal book, I don't mind.
I just finished Activity Partner by Nitanni Chionne. The hero and heroine start out as strangers, then friends then more as their relationship slowly unfolds. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for a sweet romance to relax with.

Those are my favorite type of paranormals, too! I love seeing the story from the "other's" POV. :-)

I have heard really good things about Zora and Nicky, Jeanieandjayha. I bought it but haven't read it yet.
I read Behind Blue Eyes by Pat Cromwell and Dangerous Bet: Troy's Revenge by Marie Rochelle last week. I thoroughly enjoyed them both.

Yes it is. I think it's because we are all different people and different things appeal to us. Sometimes I like a book because it was so different from what I normally read, or because a character was so striking. Or it kept me on the edge.

I feel the same way about it that I felt about "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan." I loved them all, cried over each one, and felt that I grew (even if it was only a tiny bit) as a person. However, I never want to see/read them again.

Shunda if you're trying to make me not read this book, you're on the right track. I had to walk out of Schindler's List. I didn't even try to watch Saving Private Ryan.

There isn't anything graphically violent or bad that took place. It's just one of those books where you are so swept up into the storyline and the characters that you are sympathetic to their hopes, doubts, hurts, etc. I think a better emotional comparison bookwise for me would have been Kindred.
And who knows, I might actually read it again someday.

Does it end sad? I like a Happy Ending.
Does it end sad? I like a Happy Ending.

Same here, Justine. My sister gets on me for the end of the book peeking. I've cut back on it, but I still do it sometimes.
Maybe it's just me, but if I am reading a romance book, then I know it's going to have a happy ending. I don't peek at the back of the book. I only check out the back cover description and prologue to determine if I will read the book.
There are certain happy endings that don't do it for me, so reading the end of the book does help to cement whether I should read a book. I won't let myself do it for urban fantasy and stuff like that (unless I am reading it for a romance between certain characters).

"
and that sister is fierce (the author)...i dog-earred pages in that book and broke out the highlighter...sent it to her to be autographed and i also have wounded...although i have yet to finish it...i really connected with ms. burney...hope to meet her one day.
it's different but good different...a reader by john and van hipped me to it and i am so glad.

i feel you...have you read WOUNDED yet

it ends quite hopeful...it is a read that takes you all kinds of places in your emotions but it was worth the ride to me and i say that as an individual who prefers comedies, HEA

I have a bad habit of reading the last pages to see the end before I read the story. Sometimes it will mess me up if it's a mystery. But one time really killed it for me when I actually saw that the LEAD MALE got killed off in the end. I couldn't even bring myself to read it after that. It's still unread in my bookshelf.
Sometimes it messes me up if I read the sex scene early. At that point, I'm like, "well now I know. Why finish the book." So I don't skim through too much. But occasionally I will backslide and read the end. LOL. One time that happened with an IR where I read the end and the heroine died. I got rid of that book fast.
I just finished Dark Thirst by Sara Reinke. It was pretty good. I loved Brandon, the hero. Angelina wasn't as vivid for me, and she was kind of prickly at first. It's a good book if you like a virgin hero who is tortured, and it stands out because not too many virgin and tortured heroes in IRR. Plus I think the series will probe to be an interesting one.
I really liked Brandon in that book, Danielle. He was a good guy and I was so sad to see and experience all the horrible things he went through. I didn't really like Angelina most of the time although she was interesting at times. I don't know. To me she came off as a bit forced as if the author was trying to prove how black she was or something? It felt a bit off but I did like seeing the progression of their relationship.

I have heard a few people mention this series, but I haven't ever read any of them.
I really like to start series when they are finished because I am not a patient person and I tend to forget a lot of stuff about books because I read them fairly quickly. I don't speed read, but I tend to comprehend more the gestalt than the specific details of things.
