Former Introduction Thread

Looking forward to reading some good books in this group.

My name is Christina and I'm a former teacher, and now writing full time. I've taught overseas for 10 years in Indonesia and Korea. Lots of inspiration years to glean for my series! I'm slightly obsessed with books and I read pretty much everything, but my passion is reading and writing YA and MG fantasy. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all about what I love most- books!

I lost my drive to read for several years until in High School my family bought me several of the Halo books. It resparked my interest in reading, and now since I have a Kindle, I'm just a reading fool.
I also write in my spare time, and just finished my first two books, and am writing another. They are mostly Science Fiction, Military type but I have some poetry too. Thats pretty much it.

My steampunk book is on Amazon and it is free for Unlimited members.

Recently I started exploring Goodreads beyond just using bookshelves to track "to-read" list, so here is my first group post.
I also just made my first list here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8...

I have always been a library 'rat'. I was lucky enough to grow-up in a town that had converted an older house into a public library (picture: creaky floors, large old dimpled/wavy-glassed windows, a great female librarian and the ever present smell of books.). Being around stacks and stacks of books is good for a young soul (I'm sure Andrew Carnegie would have agreed.)
In high school I had a great assistant football couch, who flew jets for the Air Force on weekends. He would give me stacks of paperback Science Fiction books to keep, read, and pass on.
And so began my journey...

Reading is my favorite hobby. I joined this group cause I like Fantasy and Sci-Fi so much.
Favorit books of all time:
Isaac Asimov - All
Tolkien - Lord of the Rings, Hobbit
Frank Herbert - Dune
This year I have re-read "Foundation" Isaac Asimov. This is great!!! This year I'll read Roger Zelazny "Amber Chronicles".
Someday I'll read R.R.Martin "A Song of Ice and Fire" :)
Thank you,
Stas.

I was led to books when I was child. Everyone in my family read so it's understandable I started too. Since then my favourite genres are fantasy, sci-fi and detective stories (if I drop mangas). I haven't got any favourite writer - I read all great books, haha!•^^•
If somebody would want to speak with me I will very happy •^^• And for other guys - nice to meet you!~

Since then haven't put books down. Favourite Authors would have to be Robert Jordan, Patrick Rothfuss and Peter V Brett. If you haven't read The Name of the Wind, I urge you to put down whatever your reading and do it... Only one word to describe it, Amazing.
I'm currently reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson and enjoying it so far.. Should be finished in a couple of days.. Work getting in the way of my reading (How Rude)
Look forward to reading your comments.
Ben
Hey, I'm Natalie. I live in Melbourne, Australia. I'm definitely more into science fiction novels, especially when they're combined with horror. I do like fantasy too but I've only recently (over the past 9 months) given fantasy a shot. Any recommendations are welcome!

Welcome, Ben! It sounds like our writing tastes mesh quite a bit. I've read most of Mr. Salvatore's books as well. Loved "The Name of the Wind", and have read several Brandon Sanderson books, including "Elantris".
If you haven't already tried Joe Abercrombie's work, I highly recommend him.

Sorry, been away for a bit. Welcome, Bryan, and everyone. Looks like the place has been exploding; hope everyone has a great experience here.

I really like YA fantasy books. My all-time favorites classics like Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia, but I also really enjoyed more recent books like The Hunger Games and I'm currently reading Brandon Sanderson's Mist Born series.

Elantris is next on my list after Mist Born! How do you like it?

I love that you and your fiance are doing this together! I wish my husband was as into reading as I am.

You're not completely alone, I was born in '63 also. )

I'm always looking for new fantasy series (can't handle Martin)and would like to connect with people on goodreads who share my reading interests. If your book interests and ratings are compatible with mine please feel free to send me a friend request so that we can share our new finds!

I'll go out of my way to welcome another Canadian fantasy fan (Toronto-area here). :) Especially since I dabble in painting, as well as writing.

Hi. I'm Gideon Jagged, struggling novelist, essayist, and occasional short story writer.
Most of my days are spent here, but I'm all over the web as well, doing my own promotion.
I am deeply into speculative fiction and Reality (the hard sciences, as well as the deeper areas of the human psyche).
Glad to be here.

Welcome, Milady. Steampunker, myself, so won't have much to offer, although if you'd like a change of pace, I can most strongly recommend The Volcano Lady by T.E. MacArthur (and no, that isn't my pen name). It calls itself a two-book series, but it is actually one huge story, and both must be read complete. Most engaging 800 pages I've put back in years!
In any case, welcome! I hope you have a great time here.

I am a published author that is always writing or mentally prewriting. I won't go into my book here per the rules. I will say that I'm feverishly working on the sequel as well as many short stories I ave started and/or have planned to start soon.
Welcome, Jake! I'm sure you're going to have a great time here.

Anyway, welcome again.
Welcome, Andy. Hope you have a great time here!

Welcome, Charles. Pour yourself a cup... Settle back... Reach for the bookshelves... The books are your friends... Your eyes are getting interested... interested... interested...

Hahaha, thank you. I'm intrigued already!
