I too tend to read Fantasy over Scifi. Last Unicorn is one of my faves as well as The Forgotten Beasts of Eld and Watership Downis technically not Fantasy, but has the talking animals...

I'm Stephanie and I have a particular love of fantasy. I read and enjoy sci-fi, too, but fantasy has always been my favorite genre. My favorite authors include Sherwood Smith, Madeleine L'Engle, and Tamora Pierce. I've also started reading Kate Elliott since I read Jaran last year and loved it.

I especially like books about court intrigue and cross-cultural experiences (and court is often a cross-cultural experience for characters).

After I finish a book, I like to analyze it, discuss it, and read others' thoughts on it. I'm hoping I can do some of that here as well as discover new books!

Been playing mostly video games the last few years but recently dove back into books.
I've been only reading series though, not individual stand alone books. I find I want the story to continue on to much haha, so at least the series helps with that.

I just caught up with The Remaining series ( zombie?), I know it's not science fiction per say but off the top of my head here at work I can't remember the other series I was reading.

honestly I join because I can't seem to find other series to read and I know they're out there. so hopefully I can get some answers here.

I have moved around a lot and grew up in the tech industry. I work for the marketing agency behind websites such as http://skagiteats.com and http://livinginskagit.com as the communication administrator, writer and sysadmin.

I have been reading since I was 7 and started with Little House on The Prairie. The first fantasy book I read was the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

The first science fiction book I read was most likely a Star Trek novel, and once I was hooked I nearly read every one in the library.

The last book I read was The Memory of Earth by Orson Scott Card. I loved his worldbuilding but did not connect with the characters.

I'm a fan of Kevin J. Anderson, C.S. Lewis, Isaac Asimov, Orson Scott Card, Timothy Zhan and Peter David. Looking forward to reading some great books!

I have actually read or more accurately skimmed "Speaker". It was a bit too much for me. I also attempted to read 1-2 others in the series and his other works. I had trouble reading all of his works except his Bible Series.

I'm Neil and I live in a small town in the North of England. I'm 31 and I'm a single gay guy. I joined this group a while ago but only just decided to post.

I'm a huge fan of anything by Brandon Sanderson, Mistborn being one of my favourite trilogies. I love the Discworld and was so devastated when I heard of Pratchett's death this year. I've heard he's left the series in his daughter's hands and that it may possibly be continued in some other forms of media. I've just recently discovered the joys of Wuxia and if anyone has any suggestions for reads in that genre, I'd love to hear them.

I'm currently reading book three of The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie, Last Argument of Kings, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I love reading science fiction and fantasy. I am a big believer in the power of the imagination. I have been through a bit of a tough time recently and it was suggested to me that I could do more with my reading. Welcome to the group. My name's Neil. I've been here a while but am only just really getting in to this now, myself.

Looking at your list of books it looks like your tastes are quite wide ranging. I can see that one of the books is Angelfall. Going from that, I would suggest maybe taking a look at the Bobby Dollar trilogy, by Tad Williams. It's a little irreverent but it provides a very interesting take on the whole angels on Earth/battle between Heaven and Hell thing..

I'm currently working my way through Kim Newman's Anno Dracula series, which has been re-released in the last couple of years and tells the story of an alternate universe where vampires are now an established part of wider society. It starts in 1888 in London, running through to the 1990's in New York and is very well written. I would really recommend that as well, although I'm guessing if you're like the rest of us that will end up on a very long list of books 'to read' along with all the other recommendations you've received :-)

I find my tastes are going down a dark and nasty path and i am very happy to chase it and see how far it goes.
I have read or rather had google books read it to me via a phone quite a few books not as many as i would like but me and our Siberian cat Moo are keen listeners.
My one recommendation is The Lies of Locke Lamora the subsequent books are good but this first has yet to be beaten.

As there are not much good Sci-Fi in Asian movies. Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and Jet Li, are some of my Heroes. I used to practice Martial Arts myself. I love Chinese cooking, all things media like writing, video production. I have a B.F.A. in Film making and Video Production. A bachelor's in Computer Science. Hello fellow book lovers

I'm Nina and just recently joined up to Goodreads, so still getting used to how things work around here :)

I'm 23, live in Lincolnshire UK, and I LOVE books.
They're not just a satisfying and relaxing pass time to me, but a passion.
Happily I will give any book a read, but my favorite genre in Scifi and fantasy.(Especially if it is based in another world - there's nothing quite like escaping you own world to momentarily live in another.)
To me, through reading, I feel almost well traveled (does that sound silly?), like I've lived in Middle Earth with the Hobbits, visited Westeros with the Starks, spent time in Narnia with Mr Tumnus, and run through the streets of Camorr with Locke Lamora.
Every book is an adventure.

Does anyone else get that feeling when you finish a book you particularly enjoyed? To me feels like my world has ended, because, in a way, it kind of has. I spend so much time living in the world of the book, that when it's time to leave, I get sad.
I hate goodbyes, always have. :)

When I have a place of my own, I intend to have a room for my books. That would be perfect.
I'm a total book collector. Could never part with a single one. I especially have an interest in collecting old books (the older the better) and have a super nerdy meltdown if I ever happen across a first edition.

I have a list as long as my arm of books I want to buy and read, and an even bigger list of books I've bought and not got round to yet.
My goal for this year is to read 20 books, and as I'm currently reading book number 10, I'd say I'm not doing to bad.

I love fantasy, so I would love if anyone had any suggestions of books I could add to my 'to-read' pile.
Or I would be more than happy to simply talk books with anyone.
I could quite honestly talk about books all day. :)

I'm working my way through them. Had more, but I've set myself the goal of reading twenty books this year (I normally try to savour them and draw them out) But this year it's all business haha. I probably only own about 150 and about 30 of them are unread. I'm trying to slowly collect all of the dresden files and the Legend of Drizzt books(Though i have read about half of those) in hardcover before i read them.

That's great. 30 unread is impressive. You must have great restraint, haha. I haven't heard of that series, I must admit, but I'll look it up. The best feeling is finding a new book series you really love and discovering there's load if them. :)

MY personal opinion: Ship of Magic, The Mad Ship, Ship of Destiny are her best so far. I DID read the Assassin's Apprentice Series. For the most part, it was good. Although I recall not liking the main character by the end. I also enjoyed Tawny Man series which takes place after the assassins books. I attempted the Soldiers Son (#1)series and Rainwild (#1) and did not care for them.

I'm Jen from Orlando.
Born in 78, and been reading fantasy since I could read. I've explored Narnia, Pern, Krynn, Ravenloft, Middle-Earth (still haven't finished the Silmarillion though) Redwall, The Dragons of Argonath, ASOIAF, and last year inhaled the Discworld books (haven't finished the Wizards or read Small Gods or Pyramids yet though). I read a lot of other stuff: non-fiction, graphic novels, LOTS of horror.
Other stuff: I played the violin for 8 years in school and studied fine art while working in an art gallery, but also water-skiid and did other "outdoorsy southern" (i.e. rednecky lol)-type things.
Professionally I write training courseware and have published a few articles in magazines. I am a would-be author but I'm not discussing that here.
Currently I am rereading 'Guards! Guards!' for the nth time and working my way through the first Harry Dresden book, Stormfront.
I look forward to participating in some good discussions and finding some new books to read! Lovely to meet you all!
