I know what you mean. I have literally hundreds of books on my Kindle waiting to be read, and a couple of thousand more on my to-read shelf here on Goodreads that I'd love to read but don't have copies of yet.

I'm trying to focus at least most of my reading this year on getting the books I've had for ages read before newer ones I grab. So far I'm doing a good job of making that happen... About two thirds of the books I've read this month have been ones I've had on my to-read shelf for three months or longer.

Thanks all! I'm 25% in on Six of Crows and really liking it. I don't mind a slow build on fantasy stories since worldbuilding is so important. The characters are really flawed and interesting and I like how the POV keeps switching. Right up my alley!

I get that, recently read some fantasy books that have very little world building and fast paced, it does not work. AT ALL. You end up not caring at all about any of it, world bulding and a fitting pace is key.

I know exactly what you mean, Oda! Red Queen was like that for me, as was An Ember in the Ashes (although I liked An Ember in the Ashes far more than Red Queen which I wasn't able to finish).

Six of Crows is far better than BOTH of those, in my opinion :)

So glad to hear you say that Oda & David. World building is such an important part of fantasy, yet can be damn hard to get right. That's why the 2nd book in my trilogy has taken me so long to write. But on the up side I'd like to think that by taking my time, my story will be all the better for it & my world feel much more credible :) Will be interested to know what you think of Six of Crows, David. It's on my TBR list this year.

P.S On an unrelated note, very jealous you've seen the first couple of episodes of the X Files. Not sure when it will be screening in the UK, gah!

Plenty of action and fighting with very little romantic elements--it was the sequel to Illusive (Illusive, #1) by Emily Lloyd-Jones and I'm so glad she didn't try for a third....the series ended well. It's one of those books that I think both boys and girls would enjoy. :)
