This week's question is:

Which book have you read the most times in your life? And Why?

I don't really keep count but it may be Honor's Splendour, Ransom or The Flame and the Flower. Closely followed by The Wolf and the Dove or Open Season.

Oh, and why? I guess I like the feel of the story. I know how it goes and ends but I love the journey it takes me to get there.

I reread my Johanna Lindsey books so many times. My copy of A Heart So Wild fell apart. I had to staple the back on!

I also read Mackenzie's Mountain a lot. I miss doing all that rereading, as much as I enjoy reading books for the first time.

message 4: by Jill (last edited Jul 22, 2012 08:43PM) (new)

Jill Into the Wilderness, I have read this series, five or six times. They are big books and the glue on the spines of most of them have full sections falling out.
I am with you Lady Danielle, I have read most of my Johanna Lindsey books so many times they are falling apart too. Especially all the Malory Books.
All these books are still really enjoyable and with the Into the wilderness series, I always pick up new things every time I read them.

There was a book I reread a lot growing up, The Gruesome Green Witch. I can't tell you how many times I checked that out from the library. I wish I could find a copy for my personal collection.

message 6: by Joanna (new)

The Secret Pearl--Mary Balogh

message 8: by Ren Puspita (new)

Fashionista (fashionista99) | 187 comments Indigo by Beverly Jenkins by Beverly Jenkins
This book is such a good historical romance about the underground railroad.

Being Plumville by Savannah J. Frierson by Savannah J. Frierson
This is another great romance set in a small town.

Chayton's Tempest (The Megalodon Team #8) by Aliyah Burke
This is an intense romance about a rekindled relationship and a secret child.

Georgie's Beau by Shara Azod

Crash by Pepper Pace Wheels of Steel, Book 1 by Pepper Pace Stranded by Pepper Pace
These novels by Pepper Pace are soooooo awesome books that I can't stop reading them over and over again!!!

So for those who reread frequently, do you ever feel like you are missing out of great new books that you haven't gotten to while you're rereading old favorites?

message 14: by Pamela(AllHoney), Danger Zone (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 1706 comments Mod
Not really. I usually reread when I'm in a slump. I probably went through a run of bad books and need something to get me back into the swing of things.

I have noticed that rereading a book can get me out of a book slump.

Awilk -never sleeps- (awilk) | 98 comments I seem to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy every couple of years, and have been for almost twenty years. Other books I usually just re-read my favourite parts. If I am ever feeling really down, re-reading a favourite can lift my spirits like nothing else.

I'm the same way, Awilk.....I have favorite parts in all my keeper books than can really lift my spirits.

message 18: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Loves 'Em Lethal (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 9851 comments Mod
I do that too--rereading just parts of books.

Awilk -never sleeps- (awilk) | 98 comments I have little bits of paper sticking out of all my favourites. It's embarrassing to have people see my shelves.

message 20: by Blair (new)

Blair Karen Marie Moning's highlander series. I discovered them when i was about 16 and the definately jumpstarted my romance addiction! I used to reread them monthly because I was too nervous to go back to barnes and noble to buy more romance novels! :) Thank goodness we now have ebooks!!!

Hi Blair. When I first started reading romance, I did the same thing with Johanna Lindsey and Jude Deveraux until my friend convinced me to try some new authors.

message 22: by Katya (last edited Jul 23, 2012 08:01PM) (new)

Katya | 327 comments Not sure which one wins....but maybe some of these:

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Ransom (Highlands' Lairds, #2) by Julie Garwood Jabril (Vampires in America, #2) by D.B. Reynolds Once and Always by Judith McNaught A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux Dark Desire (Dark, #2) by Christine Feehan

I still re-read these when I am stressed.

message 23: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 21 comments There's something about each one of these books that has had me read and reread them numerous times.

Charming the Prince (Fairy Tales, #1) by Teresa Medeiros
Among the multitudes of comical historical romances, I always come back to this one, perhaps, because the plot is both ridiculous AND sweet while the main characters are distinct and well drawn.

Love's Illusion by Katherine Sutcliffe
Dominick is a wonderful anti-hero; dark and dangerous while hiding a very scared boy afraid of love within. I also like the fact that NONE of the characters are perfect.

This Is All I Ask (De Piaget, #7) by Lynn Kurland
A blind warrior and a scarred woman make for one of the sweetest books about courage and hope.

Nightfall by Anne Stuart
I first read this book in the 6th grade and I love it as much now as I did then. The love/hate, murderer/innocent and manipulation storyline never tires me. I've not just read this multiple times but can reread again twice in a row.

Best Kept Secrets by Sandra Brown
I've always liked the mystery in this book and that there were many plot twists that still manage to seem fresh even after several rereads.

Desire and Deception by Nicole Jordan
This is my go-to bodice ripper. While many seem to find the heroine annoying, I think she acts rather realistically in many parts.

Wild Orchids A Novel by Jude Deveraux
I am enamored with the switching viewpoints in this book. I also find it to be as highly original today as it was when it was written.

I love seeing all the books everyone goes back to. Thanks for sharing. Making me want to do a lot more rereading!

Heather, I've been meaning to reread Nightfall again.

message 25: by Heather (new)

Heather | 26 comments Probally any Julie Garwood book like The Bride, Saving Grace, The Secret. Had to replace these books I had read them so long ago and have read them so many times. ALso, some of Linda Howard's books, Son of the Morning, All the Queen's men, I read those years and years ago and had to replace them.

message 26: by Blaze (new)

Blaze King | 13 comments JOHANNA LINDSEY is by far the most re-read author by me. Love any and every book she has written. After her, 'Kingdom of Dreams' by Judith Mcnaught is my Most re-read book ! I adore how the hero's love in the end conquers the heroine's pride and dislike for him and she kneels down (literally in front of viewers of two countries and a King) to this love he bore for her.

Any plans to reread a favorite based on our discussion?

I'm currently rereading The GhostWalker series by Christine Feehan. I see me doing a reread in the not so far future again. That's how much I love this series.

In the fall, I will probably start a reread of the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole.

Teresa (teresatheduchessofread) | 91 comments I feel no same in admitting that it is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I super loved that book!!!

And this one I feel a little shame (ok, a lot of shame) in admitting to: Lora Leigh's “Maverick”. I really don't like her books very much they are all pretty much exactly the same story line with different names. But for some deranged reason I loved this book.

On a side note: an awesome thread would be books that you love, but are ashamed to admit to.

I really liked LL's "Maverick" too Teresa and that would be a great thread!!

Not that we want to judge anyone's reading tastes, but I can definitely set that thread up for you all.

Dorsey, I will let you know about the IAD reread. Maybe even set up a thread on the group for it.

Here's the thread you asked for.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Okay, I have to admit that I read Defiant 4 times before it was even published. *sigh* Yes, it was that good.

A book that crosses the age spectrum... Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree is one I've read so many times I lost count. Seriously.

All my Julie Garwood historicals, Jodi Thomas' Wife Lottery and McClain brothers series, Lavyrle Spencer's Years, and Texas Splendor by Lorraine Heath. Those are my go-to comfort reads.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Oh, Megan! I love the Wife Lottery series and I got to talk with Jodi Thomas at RWA on Wednesday night. She's so, so nice!!!
