Please read the rules for nominating BEFORE you create your post!! And check our bookshelves to be sure you are not nominating something we have already read as a group!

The categories going forward will remain as follows (based on your feedback):

Cat1- Regular Fiction/Non-Fiction
Cat2- Classics

In order for a novel to count as "Classic" it must be published pre-1980.

Please do not nominate a book more than once. A book can only be voted on once, so multiple nominations within this thread are not counted.

Only ONE nomination per person.
If you nominate a book for catagory 1, you CANNOT nominate a book for catagory 2, and visa versa.

Please be sure to post the title, author, and the catagory it belongs to.

Ideally, you can type it as follows -
Cat 1. Room - Emma Donoghue

If your post does not have those three things, it will not be counted.

Are you ready?

I will accept nominations through Friday evening. If we get tons of nominations, I may pull the plug on it a little early, so get them in as soon as you can!

Once I close nominations I will create the polls and let you know when it is time to vote!

Hit us with your best noms!

**Important note: At no time is it acceptable for an author to nominate one of his/her own books for the monthly group read. Likewise, it is not acceptable to "push" nominations or votes within this group. It also follows that "a nomination for a nomination" is not acceptable. If I suspect a push, or inappropriate actions have taken place within the group read nominations or votes, I reserve the right to deem those nominations or votes as ineligible.

Ok guys and gals... you've twisted my arm!

I gave it a shot but it appears we are not fans of the "moderate the discussion for the book you nominated" route...

Which is cool. It is. And I hear you loud and clear.

So nominations are open to anyone. If you've got a book you want us to read, nominate it. If it gets voted in, you are under no obligation to moderate the discussion for it (though I would totally let you if you want to).

Cool? Cool!

Whooo.. polls are open, nominations are closed.
Go vote. Polls close midnight July 24th.

May the best books win!!!!

Mary Beth | 3 comments My first post and I hope I have it right. So many great nominations, but my vote for cat. 1 The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It was on sale, recommended by a reader in the bookstore and it was amazingly entertaining and well-written from a genre I generally don't read.

message 22: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Mary: Please read the post above yours. Nominations are closed, polls open for voting through Tuesday. ;-)

Heather L (wordtrix) No, you need to either click on the link in Lori's post or scroll up to top right of page and go in under "polls" to vote.

I finished reading Sharp Objects yesterday. I didn't find it to be a reread novel but its definitiely one to read once. Hope everyone enjoys it.

Amanda (mandamarie528) | 14 comments Yay!! WD has been on my to read list for ever! Off to download Sharp Objects!

message 29: by Áine (new)

Áine | 1 comments Yes, I shall join you and then maybe for people who like Watership Down, they could try The Island of Whispers (not my book).

message 30: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Depends on whether or not I manage to unearth my copy of Watership Down. I'm moving this weekend, and who knows which box it is in (apparently, hoping it was in the box marked "children/YA" was too much to ask). :-\

Hi Lori,
I would like to join the next group read (Sharp Objects), but I am new here and I do not know how it works. Will there be a schedule? Events? And how do you join the specific book reading?
Thanks,
Aylin

Hi Aylin!

We're happy to have you join. At the start of the month, I create a thread for it in the Group Reads folder. There is no schedule, just chatting and discussing as you go. Goodreads has a spoiler code that you can use in your posts to block spoilers from those who might not wish to see them.

Sit tight, and look forward to your participation.

I read Watership Down many years ago and loved it. It is one of my all time favorite books.

message 34: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (estrangeira) Lori, sorry I'm new to TNBBC, could you clarify something for me? I noticed you mentioned 2 books as August reads but there are actually 4 books as upcoming reads for August (My Only Wife and Threats starting on the 15th). Where do these books fit?

thanks in advance xxx

Those are the Author/Reader discussion novels. I do giveaways for the books for this series a month in advance and then the authors join us to discuss the books.

We currently have one going on with Alison Espach and her novel THE ADULTS in the section titled Author/Reader Discussions.

message 36: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (estrangeira) Ok, that's really cool. It's a pity the giveaways are mainly to U.S. residents =/
Thanks again Lori!

Valerie Zink | 12 comments I noticed Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West came in third but it was a close poll. If anyone would like to buddy read it with me, I would be up for that. Otherwise, I might shelf it for a later date.

As for Sharp Objects, I read that a few years ago. Excellent book.

As for Watership Down...I have read it three times, and will STILL try to re-read this month. I love that book!

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Just joined the group. I'm currently reading "Gone Girl" but will start "Sharp Objects" in a few days. Looking forward to reading with everyone!
