Sounds like something to watch during the day and not late at night.
I'll try to get a copy as soon as possible and will let you know what I think. I am a bit apprehensive, but always willing to try something new. :)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Only zombie book I read was World War Z, but it wasnt that great although it had some great reviews.I would also like to know which one you get Barbara.

Yeah!!! I got my zombie book from Claudia in the mail today.
I got: Married With Zombies (Living with the Dead, #1) by Jesse Petersen !
Can't wait to read it!
Thanks again Claudia for my new shiny book! :D

message 104: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Yay :)

I have my doubts about if this is a typical Zombie book, but it was sure funny! I felt a bit sorry for Sarah and David because it would have been nice to have a travel companion and they could not get a break but I had fun reading this. I'll even order part 2. :)

message 106: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Haha, I think it actually pokes a bit of fun at other "serious" zombie books. Throughout the series our heroes end up in just about every imaginable bad situation and manages to get out of it while maintaining their sense of humour. I like my zombies with some humour, I'm glad you had fun. :)

message 107: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Yeah, I noticed that. But I think this was indeed the right way to introduce me to the genre. If I had read a full on scary and gory zombie novel it might have been the last book I ever read in the genre. Now I want to read more.
By the way. This makes 3 for 3. You have recommended 3 books to me that I have read and I have liked all 3. :)

message 108: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments I would have never take you for a zombie loving girl Barbara lol just goes to show you dont know anyone. I love it when I get recommendations that work out, Ive had a great run of good books lately through recommendations some through goodreads and some on other forums, sometimes it works out. Gladyou enjoyed the zombie book.

message 109: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Me neither, but this book was really funny. I guess that is why I liked it.
I love recommendations even if they don't work out. It always says something about the person who recommended it and if it does work out you have read a book that you might otherwise never have read.

Lauren wrote: "Barbara and I are planning to start reading Contact on 17 October, for those who want to join in.

After that - probably in November - we will be reading The Club Dumas."

Hey Lauren, I know you're still reading Contact (I just finished), but I was already wondering about the Club Dumas. You said we could do that one in November and I was wondering if that was still the case, because that would make my life easier. I am putting aside books for the Exploring Goodreads challenge and the November Word of the Month and I still need an R and the Club Dumas is the only R in that pile.

message 111: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Yeah, I'm fine with that for November :) Contact is slow-going for me, but I should be able to finish it by the end of the month.

message 112: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Great! Thanks!
I'll go over to the contact discussion and tell everyone what I think about the book.

message 113: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Is there any particular date you'd like to start with The Club Dumas? Or should we just start on the 1st?

message 114: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I don't have any preferences. I can start on any date you like. You're normally the one with books to finish or reviews to write.

message 115: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm so disorganised right now, that the only thing I can keep straight are buddy reads, haha. So lets just start on the first :)

message 116: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Lol. The first it is!

message 117: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I will make a note in my diary. That always makes me feel more organised :)

message 118: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith For those reading Cryptonomicon (and then The Baroque Trilogy) next year - when would you like to start? 1 January probably isn't a good date, lol.

message 119: by Varla Fiona (new)

Varla Fiona (dory_42) | 1332 comments Mod
Yeah, 1 Jan is probably not the best. How about 15 Jan?

message 120: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I have ordered the books, but they haven't arrived yet. I think that is because of Christmas and people ordering a lot of stuff and sending cards and everything. But as long as I don't have the books I can't join in. Will keep you updated as to when they arrive. But for now 15 Jan sounds better than 1 Jan.

message 121: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm happy with 15 January. We can always make adjustments if need be.

message 122: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I am so happy! My books have arrived. I got all 4 so I can start whenever everybody else is ready!

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I'm probably going to read Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion and Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia this month or the next. Anyone wanna join in?

message 124: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments Curiosity killed the cat! I am in on Warm Bodies! Let me know when you want to start!

message 125: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I'm ready whenever :) I don't know when University is starting, because man they are slow in letting me know lol. So when do you have time?

message 126: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments Well I will be going away this weekend so I don't think I will get a lot of reading done, so how does Monday sound to you?

message 127: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Sounds good! I will plan my reading that way and make us a thread now :)

message 128: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments Great :)

message 129: by Sharle (new)

Sharle (mizzkruger) | 110 comments I'm actually just a few pages away from finishing Warm Bodies but when you get around to Beautiful Creatures, I'm in.

message 130: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Anyone interested in reading the Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch with me? These are the books:

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard, #2) by Scott Lynch The Republic of Thieves (Gentleman Bastard, #3) by Scott Lynch

I plan to read them in August, September and October, although I may push to read the third book in September, to get the page count in for this quarter's Epic Challenge. However, that book will only be published in October so of course the discussion can be extended.

I started reading the first one and found it boring, so I think I will not be joining you!

message 132: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Anyone interested in a MaddAddam buddy read? It's an sf trilogy by Margaret Atwood:
Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy, #1) by Margaret Atwood The Year of the Flood (MaddAddam Trilogy, #2) by Margaret Atwood MaddAddam (MaddAddam Trilogy #3) by Margaret Atwood

I don't have a starting date, but we can work that out. I'd like to finish them all by the end of the year. Oryx and Crake will be a re-read but I haven't read the other two.

message 133: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I have Oryx and Crake and will possibly be interested in reading just that one. Unless I LOVE it!

message 134: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Well it'd be nice to have company for any one of them :) Is there any time that would suit you? I can't start until I get back at the end of October really.

I hand in my thesis 8 Nov, and then write exam shortly after. So after that?

Just waiting for it to arrive. Should be by this weekend. We have to read it for class and an exam so I'll read it asap when I get it :)

Awesome. It was on our Honours reading list, but we were not examined on it. I was enjoying it but I was tired of thinking reading at the end of honours so I took a break. Two years later I think I'm up for it...

message 144: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod

Anyone for Collapse How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond starting 1 November-ish? I need to read this asap for an exam.

message 146: by Varla Fiona (new)

Lauren Smith Does anyone want to read The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente this month?

I'm going to use it for the WoM and it can also be used for the MishMash Task requiring a title with 8 or more words. I'm going to read the second one too, and the third one if I like the series, although I'll only get to those in December/January. I'll read this mid-end November.

message 149: by Varla Fiona (new)

Varla Fiona (dory_42) | 1332 comments Mod
I have already read the first one but will read the second one with you and discuss the first if you want.

message 150: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ok cool :) I can't fit the second one into the WoM as well so I will only have time for it next month, if that's ok.
