Hi Cordelia,
It's about a 12 year old boy, kind of a loveable bully-magnet, that discovers a magical totem (for lack of a better word). He has many misadventure due to it's faulty powers. I try to combine a bit of magic, fantasy, humor, and an mc everyone can relate to get children to read. Thanks for asking.

Andrew Marr (andrewmarrosb) | 25 comments Hi,

I happen to be a Benedictine monk in the Episcopal church. Religion, then, is the major area of interest but fantasy literature is another life-long interest. I have written a book on Benedictine spirituality with a stress of peace-nonviolence issues but also some fantasy stories geared to young readers as well as older ones. I read a lot of YA lit for fun as well for some things to think about & will comment on books as I get a chance. I am new to GoodReads & have just started listing books I've read (too many to count) in several areas including YA fantasy. If anybody wants to check out my blog for what I say in areas of spirituality & fantasy literature, the URL is bit.ly/Tqbeqw

Anna Olswanger (olswanger) | 21 comments I've been a member of Goodreads since 2007 but only recently decided to become active by joining a few groups, including this one. I'd like to introduce myself.

I'm a literary agent with Liza Dawson Associates in New York where I specialize in children's books, especially illustrated books and middle grade fiction. I'm the author of two children's books: Shlemiel Crooks, a picture book based on a Yiddish newspaper article I uncovered about the attempted robbery of my great-grandfather’s kosher liquor store in St. Louis in 1919, and Greenhorn, an illustrated middle grade novel about a young Holocaust survivor who arrived at a Brooklyn yeshiva in the 1940s with only a small box that he wouldn't let out of his sight.

You can see my full Goodreads profile at:

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I look forward to participating in this group.

Julie (plumcrazy22) Hello. My name is Julie. I work as a paraprofessional at the Junior High level during the day and I work as a Children's/Teen Library assistant at night.

I have a tendency to read more kids books than I do teen books, so I thought this might be a good place to get some ideas.

Thanks for the group. :)

Out of curiosity, when you say "Middle Grades", which ones are you referring too? 3th-6th? or 6th-9th?

I may be speaking out of turn, Julie, but I believe middle grade is usually aimed toward 8 to 12 age range. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There was a discussion in the General section a while ago about 'What defines middle grade'. You may find it interesting to read through the opinions that were shared by members.

Christine (coolmom) | 65 comments Hello, all!

I am finally formally introducing myself. :) This group is fantastic. I am the mother to "StanleyNKatrina." She is a young author so if you ask to friend her, don't be offended if she doesn't but I will. :)

I help her with her marketing. We also read a lot of middle grade books here. My daughter loves reading books but has run into many of them containing language that she does not like (cursing) or focus too heavily on dating - which she has no interest in or are simply not challenging enough to keep her interest. So we are always on the look out for books that meet her requirements. S.W. thank you for creating this group!

I'm Kurt and I'm a middle grade author. I published the first book in a series I wrote some years ago, Truth Teller. It just won it's first award for best cover art of 2012 on the Perditors & Editors readers poll, which I'm very proud of :)

I run the Young Adult Novel Workshop on writing.com where I spend most of my time helping to mentor new and published authors.

It's a pleasure to meet you all :)

Steven Stickler | 4 comments Hi all,

Steve Stickler here. Secret agent by day, MG author by night. That's my story, at least.

Just wanted to say hello, finally. My inbox (the real one, on my desk) filled up shortly after I joined and so I haven't had a chance to participate much. But I really love what you all have done with the place and I'm looking forward to discussing some great MG reads here. Currently reading this one and loving it:

Liar & Spy

p.s. Steve, I'd give you a pat on the back for getting this group up and running but, man, that would be a long flight ;)

Hi agent Stickler, glad to see you resurface after such a while.
GMGR has grown since August. We're heading towards 600 members.
It would be a long flight, so a virtual pat on the back is great.

I'm currently on vacation in Queensland but can't go outdoors as ex cyclone Oswald is thrashing outside with high winds and solid torrential rain for two full days now. Bummer!!
Cheers

I'm in a 28th floor apt two blocks from the beach and can't stop looking out at the huge seas. It's amazing but wind is very loud, building shaking. I've never seen so much rain.

That's an excellent book, Steven! One of the best I've read in ages. If you enjoy that one, you might also like Rebecca Stead's previous book, When You Reach Me.

Robin Morgan (robinleighmorgan) Robin Leigh Morgan here, I'm retired, married, no children, and my debut novel, a YA Paranormal/Time Travel/First Kiss romance novel "I Kissed a Ghost"
I Kissed a Ghost by Robin Leigh Morgan
just got released on December 20, 2012. The interesting thing is according to the first review it has received on Amazon, the book would also be suitable for pre-teeens. I'd like to invite everyone to check it out. I also have several UNEDITED SNIPPETS from the book on my blog sites. One of them is http://www.mypennameonly.wordpress.com under the category of "Ghostly Whispers."
