Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments I've changed your title on the Master List Juana :)

I didn't much enjoy Hush, Hush, glad you changed it!

@Amy, where are you off to?

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Oh my, Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) by E.L. James is terrible. I'm only 40% of the way through and I can barely continue. Ana acts like an immature, pre-teen bimbo. She spends her time blushing and acting like everything is scandalous.

Also it never seemed to bother me before, but EL James can't write. She masks this with complicated words thrown in every chapter or so, but the rest of it is horrible.

Sandra | 25913 comments Jeann, you aren't alone in that observation regarding EL James.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Ah, thanks for letting me know Sandra. The book seems super overrated IMO. I was shocked to find mostly 4-5 stars when I checked out the ratings.

message 106: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25913 comments I read some very good reviews not long after it came out and decided the book was not me :)

I've got a lot of BDSM & erotica books but this sounded just pretty crappy and badly written.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments I just finished the book, it was terrible. Miles worse than the first one.

Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) by E.L. James
Shelf: Favorite Series
Date finished: 26/6/12
Rating: ★

There's been a lot of hype surrounding this series, especially after the recent 'mummy porn' book banning scandal. I found the 1st book to be quite enveloping and addictive, but the 2nd was just a total shocker. It just further exasperated how amateur the author is, which wouldn't be a problem if only her writing was good. And that, it's not. I don't usually hate on books but this was just painful to read.

I list out all the problems here at my full review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I'm just appalled at the Goodreads rating, but perhaps those who had enough of the first book didn't continue further.

Review: my goodreads review

Picture of the Columbia River Gorge, by Doug Porter
[image error]

★★★★☆ (This is a review of the audiobook.) This sixth installment of Mercy Thompson’s series is very well narrated by Lorelei King. Ms. King certainly has cemented her voice as Mercy’s in my brain and she delivers nicely for this first person narrative. Love her Italian accent for Stefan (a vampire), who features in the opening scenes of this volume. It has kind of a “I want to drink your blood…” cadence to it, but Ms. King totally gets away with it.

Nevertheless, without giving away spoilers, this one is mainly about Adam and Mercy. We get to peer into a different, sweet, romantically intimate side of their relationship as they get even closer. They end up camping in the Columbia River Gorge area and eventually battling evil; (view spoiler). Mercy also gets some answers about her Native American Indian father she never knew.

This one is a little different; no mechanic’s shop, very little pack interaction. (Thanks goodness Jesse made a phone call to complain to her father about Darryl.) And the pace seemed slower to me, too, though Ms. Briggs always has a nice way of setting future scenes up without me even knowing it. So, it is a given that it must be read, if you’re planning on continuing this wonderful Urban Fantasy series that has a touch more romance this time around.

Anyone who has researched Patricia Briggs knows that she was strongly influenced by magic and fairy tales. This one is loaded with them, most of them Indian legends, and they are pretty neat.

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments Tapestry (Includes De Piaget, #10; Dark-Hunter, #1.5; Were-Hunter, #0; Highlander, #8) by Lynn Kurland

Shelf ~ Free Space
Date finished ~ 06/25/12
Rating ~ ★★★★

Ok... I expected this to be a little different than what I got. But all in all, it was pretty good.

This is an anthology & each story has a tapestry of some kind in it. It is not all PNR but HR as well.

The Kiss in the Shadows by Lynn Kurland

This historical romance was about a shunned girl, Lianna who was ward of the court, ugly from pock scars to her face, but had a whole lot of wealth left to her after her family was slaughtered.

She meets Jason & his brother. She is poisoned & the men watch over and guard her. People are leary of Jason who has studied dark arts under "the dragon"... All 3 have something in common.

This was a sweet story, but not an epic. It's a clean no sex at all romance. Just saying.

An Interrupted Tapestry by Madeline Hunter

I was very surprised by this author. I have never read anything by her. It was good!

Giselle asks her longtime friend, Andreas for 100 pounds. Her brother is being held hostage & she needs the money as payment to the kidnappers.Giselle's brother owes everyone money & they are all coming to collect.

When Andreas goes to her, he interrupts several people collecting their markers, saying he is first in line because his are older. Giselle explains the ransom & they both set out to save the no good SOB.

That said, it was a great story & Madeline Hunter is now added to my author list!

Dragonswan by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Channon is kind of a nerdy jumper wearing English Major who is studying the origin & story behind a pictorial tapestry that includes pictures of dragons, as it hangs in a museum. As all SK books go, she is approached by a male Hottie Sebastion.

Sebastian is of coarse an Arcadian Sentinal Shifter dragon from way back in time & Channon is his mate.

Great Were story... What can I say?

Into the Dreaming by Karen Marie Moning

How have I missed this story? For shame!I love her highlanders!

oK...

The Unseelie King has Aedynn held as a prisoner for 5 years (500 or so in faeryland terms) renaming him "Vengence"...He has been doing all the kings vengence for so long, he has forgotten who he is.

The queen has rigged her magic to go against the king by filling a human girls dreams of this highlander. Terms of his release is that he has a 30 day reprieve to live with the humans & he must fall in love in 30 days or be forever held as "Vengence"

Jane is his dream girl & she has to convince him that he loves her...

This book was good. It was incredibly clean considering what these authors usually write,so I was kind of surprised. I am not sure it was done on purpose??? maybe?

***I am having spacebar issues having to go over my words againto put inthe spaces like this. soi am going to writemy other review later when Ihave timeto fix it like i had to with this review.

Review: my goodreads review

Jane’s Secret Unicorn Collection?

★★★½✩ (This is a review of the audiobook.) The first in the Jane Jameson series is wonderfully narrated by Amanda Ronconi; she does the snarky inflection of Jane’s first person POV just right. I think the biggest problem I had with this book was I wasn’t in the mood for snarky. (I know, I know! But, it was on my iPod/Touch and I couldn't get to what I wanted.) Too bad. Maybe at another time. Ditto with continuing the series: maybe later. I know I like this author; however, as Carolyn F said in her review: “There were some funny parts, but more smirks not laughs.”

I know I need to work on suspending my belief in RomanceLandia, or Paranormal ChickLit City, or wherever this book is set. However, the fact that Jane was given a gift certificate instead of a severance check just pushed my button. It was so against the law, I was rolling my eyes.

I guess I was in the mood for romance and this one doesn’t really go there. Well, there is the whole relationship between Jane and Gabriel, but that runs hot and cold. This dude, who happens to be Jane’s Sire, needs to roll it back a bit and give Jane the benefit of the doubt. The poor woman has gone through enough, already! She doesn’t need his ambivalent feelings.

Jane also doesn’t seem like a librarian, or my mind’s stereotype of a librarian. I was so glad to come across the part where she starts craving a book instead of blood. (view spoiler) But all that isn’t the basis of the story, which involves framing Jane for murder - more than once - and dealing with the upshot of that from the Vampire Council.

By the way, each chapter started with an excerpt from The Guide for the Newly Undead, which was entertaining.
