R5: Team #8 ~ Serial Slayers

Megan,
How are you making out moving? I finally have all of my boxes in my new apartment and have about 1/2 unpacked.

Megan,

It is not really like Sherri to be this far behind. Last season she was the captain and was busy but would check in often enough. I hope she is okay.
As for my moving, I am surprised how much I have unpacked. But then again my amazing man got a lot done over the last two days. I got every thing moved in last week so we have been basically trying to unpack while working 10-12 hour shifts. I think we should be done or almost done in the next week
Just so you all know I finished

Thanks for the concern, everything is fine here except for the crashed computer. :-(
Bought a new laptop yesterday and hopefully it will be ready to rock later today. Yea!! Its red and I love it. Anyway, I will do a couple of my reviews at lunch today here at work. Not "supposed" to be doing the personal thing and it does get monitored so I don't do it alot. I managed to get caught up on my reading this last week during the scorching heatwave we had here in Michigan, its been over a 100F!
For my shifter book, I'll be sucking it up and reading

Freespace Shelf

Sins of the Son by Linda Poitevin
Book Completed: 4 July 2012
Rating: ★★★★
Not sure where to even start with this review. Sins of the Son is just crammed full of action, betrayal, lust, angst and treachery; that kept me glued to the end. What a world! How does an author even come up with this stuff? Heaven and Hell have a bargain, Lucifer and The One (God, who is a woman) were lovers and had a son, and that son is the ultimate chooser of who wins humanity. Sheesh, makes your head spin I bet from just reading this brief paragraph.
Many of the characters from Sins of the Angel (the first book in the series) are back. Alex is a kick-ass heroine/detective and she is out to safe the world; literally. Seth, the son of Lucifer and The One, is charming, albeit deadly; although, I do wonder over his obsession/interest for Alex. Lastly, we have Aramael, not sure what to think of him after this book. I know he is Alex’s soul mate, but he didn’t sway me that he should be with her forever during Sins of the Sons.
My favorite character in this book is the archangel Michael. I liked his honest brashness and forthrightness. I wonder if he gained those skills while he was living with those pesky humans for all those millennia. Anyway, his welcome back into heaven is pretty pivotal and I can’t help wonder what is role will be in the upcoming Apocalypse.
Overall, if you are an urban fantasy junkie, than this is series you should add to reading pile. The world building and story telling are top-notch and I can’t quite think of another series that is similar to it.

Dark Frost by Jennifer Estep
Book Completed: 3 July 2012
Rating: ★★ ★★½
I’m usually not a fan of YA books, mainly because I miss the romantic element. But I don’t seem to have that problem with this series. Gwen Frost is a likeable character and at times my heart goes out to her for what she has had to endure. I also like Logan Quinn as her romantic interest. I can’t wait to see what we learn about Logan in the future, because I think he is misunderstood as much as Gwen is. I think what makes this series enjoyable is that although Gwen and Logan are brave, loyal and smart, they each have their flaws and Jennifer Estep isn’t afraid to present them. The couple has grown over the series and that has been exciting to watch. In Dark Frost, Gwen is in pursuit of the Helheim Dagger before the Reapers can find it and release Loki onto the world. There is plenty of action and drama in this edition and it really was a page turner start to end. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Not going to give away anything else on the plot, except to say that if you’ve had mixed results from YA books, this is series you may want to try, although they are best read in order.

Sarajayne! You should have read Stray I loved it and am looking forward to reading the 3rd in the series...Pride

And I totally agree about Dark Frost :D

Sandra, the Grigory Legacy is definitely UF, not much lovin going on. Pretty complex in its world building and very unique. My favorite UF of the year though is still

I've put Grigori's on the wishlist for when I go shopping next :)

Meghan is adding to her TBR pile! >;) Join the club, baby!
Emily's finished her book already! WTG!
Sherri's okay, rockin' a new red laptop, and knockin' off the reviews. And, you've reminded me of yet another series I have been collecting, but haven't started. Good reviews!
Sara's got us all updated, now I need to get my arse movin' and stamp that card! <--- said like Ty (what a cutie) and his team shouting "Move that Bus!" LOL!
I'm ~ 32% into my 'shifters' book: Hunting Ground, which I'm re-reading not only for this shelf, but also for an SOS Buddy Read w/Sarah. :)
K, off to stamp some BSB cards! :D

We now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'Free Space' and 'young-adult-paranormal'.
[Our updated BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
WOOHOO!!! Go, Team, Go! :D

Book Completed: 7/9/2012
Book Rating: ★★★★
Continue Series?: Yes
I am stuck between giving this book a 4 star and a 4 ½ star rating.
I do know that I did like this book a lot better than Dark Lover. Rhage was a lot more likable character. Mary was also a lot more likable than Beth was in Dark Lover. It is a book that is exciting to read and keep yourself reading. It took me a little longer to read just because I had other things going on.
I liked that both main characters had their battles they needed to fight. Whether it is Rhage who was fighting with the beast or whether is was Mary fighting with cancer. It wasn't just one person getting over their problems/drama it was a give and take situation with both of these characters.
I am excited to see what happens in the next book between Zsadist and Bella. Especially since the whole book was started in this one. It left with a great way to just jump into the action.

Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs
Shelf: shifters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
First Read: 1 Sept 2009
Re-Read: 13 July 2012 (SOS Buddy Read)
Review:
Hunting Ground picks up shortly after Cry Wolf. Briggs' takes her time with these two and their human mating process. They are both slowly, but steadily learning how to read each other and get closer to one another. One thing that is evident throughout the story - they will do whatever, whenever, to whomever that is necessary to protect the other. Seeing Anna become stronger and Charles open up is a joy for A&O fans. I love that Anna is able to surprise Charles with her strength.
"Seattle is a city with a certain ... panache. Never know what you are going to find when you come visit. Good food, friendly people ... Always something different."
Bran, in his determination to out the wolves to the general public, has been frustrated with Charles. Bran is set to meet with other Alphas in Seattle and Charles feels it's too risky. So, Charles goes in his stead along with Anna by his side. While there, they meet some interesting and some twisted weres, one intriguing fae and some wickedly talented witches.

Sherri, I like how she takes time really developing those two - Charles & Anna. What a great couple.
Alright, Slayers. Our 5th shelf is up! It's 'ghosts'.
I'm wrapping up several books, which I should be done reading by Monday or Tues. Then, I'm going to read

Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys their read(s)! :D

Hope you enjoyed Mercy, Meghan. Love that series!
Sherri, is that one for 'ghosts'?
I've just started Chasing Magic.

Book Completed: 7/14/2012
Rating: ★★★★
Continue Series?: Yes
What a a great book!
Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson is a coyote shapeshifter, otherwise known as a walker. She has never met any before, but she does hang out with a lot of werewolf buddies, including her back-door neighbor Adam. One day Mercy comes across a lone wolf who is new and has wound up in a werewolf drug ring. Within a few days the lone wolf is dead and Adam's daughter has been kidnapped. Now Mercy is on the hunt to figure out who kidnapped Adam's daughter and why they did it.
I actually kind of liked that this book didn't have that big of a romance play into it. Not until the end of the book was there really even a smidgen of romance even getting close to a kiss. This was mostly people just really caring for each other and helping each other.
Mercy is AMAZING! Such a strong female character with a lot of heart and gusto. I am still uncertain how I feel about Samuel. He is nice, but a little too much on the possessive side. Who knows though maybe he will change in future books. Adam is great. He is strong and really cares about the women in his life. I think my favorite character would have to be either Warren or Kyle. The werewolf and human, respectively, gay gentlemen of the book. I possibly like Kyle more so than Warren just because Kyle goes for what he wants. I really hope their relationship lasts into the next one as it left off on a limbo.

Yes, I will be reading Lethal Rider for my ghost shelf.
I finished Mine to Possess and Deadlocked so I'll work on my reviews (and I'll almost be caught up).

Hope everyone's enjoying/enjoyed their reads for this shelf and are having a good week! :D

Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane
Shelf: 'ghosts'
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Read: 18 July 2012
Review:
Chasing Magic, the 5th book in Stacia's amazing Downside Ghosts series, finds Chess not only fighting her inner demons, but also black magic in Downside. Black magic affects Terrible in such a way that Chess must find out how to reverse what she's done. At this point, I'm not sure what would happen to Chess if she lost Terrible.
Chess is full of self-loathing. She doesn't believe herself worthy of ... well, anything. Terrible does his best to keep her tethered to reality, but her drug habit reaches dangerous levels. And, it couldn't be happening at a worse time because Downside's drug supply has been spiked - those who take it become zombies.
Despite Chess' fears and severe drug addiction, she is growing. She's trying SO hard to feel deserving of the relationships in her life. (view spoiler) But, like Chess, I know Terrible is worth it all. Now, if she could just accept that SHE is worth it all!
(view spoiler)
I will absolutely be continuing with this series. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I am feeling in a bit of a reading slump and just not in the mood to pick up my books. I have been doing many other things when I could be reading. Including fiddling around on Goodreads.
