Shraddha (shraddha4) | 3 comments I'd say that you had to be at least 12. I read it cause I wanted to actually see what the fuss was all about...and then I really liked it. I'm 12 and I was perfectly fine wid it, even though we don't learn that stuff at school yet (I'm in 6th). But no one I know of my age's read it yet. I read it w/out skipping. It was good because she didn't go into detail, I totally agree! I definitely couldn't have read it when I was 11, but ppl now ARE maturing really fast. I still think it should be 12.

Erica (thppjfan) Seriusly? Your in 6th grade and your not learning it in school yet? Ive been learning about this stuff since 4th grade!

Uh...I'm from India, actually. But don't underestimate the education standards here. It's just that most Indians are a little bit more conservative. Doesn't stop the kids at school from talking abt stuff though. That's global.

The Insane Psychopath Jane Volturi (janewhitlockhale) That's surprises me. My friend is half Indian, and usually there they marry rather early which made me assume that...well, yeah. My parent's friend's daughter went there for half a year, around when she was 20, and they were surprised she wasn't married.

message 205: by Shraddha (new)

Shraddha (shraddha4) | 3 comments No that's not in the cities. And not now in most of the towns. But child marriage does exist but we're trying to prevent it. People here marry at a normal age like in their 20s.

message 206: by Erica (new)

Erica (thppjfan) Good to know. Wow im learning moe about india on here then i ever did in school!

message 207: by Ashley Elizabeth (new)

Ashley Elizabeth | 7 comments i just turned 13 and i read breaking dawn. i actually skipped some of their honeymoon just in case, but i think kids under 12 should not read unless they r mature enough 2 skip some of those kind of parts.

message 208: by [deleted user] (new)

i turned 12 4 days ago, on the 14th, and i have read all of them, i think as long as they are being mature they can read it, if they say inappropriate stuff then no, hell no, they cant read it....

message 209: by Erica (new)

Erica (thppjfan) I agree, its all in the matter of maturity

message 210: by Naruto (new)

Naruto Uzamaki (jacob_black) | 2 comments I thinkit doesnt matter.Im 11 and own all 4.

message 211: by Nightshade (new)

Nightshade OH.

And apparently, there was a 3rd grader who read the first 3 books and loved them, and then she asked her parents for the 4th, but then someone warned them, and the parents freaked out ;)

Nicole | 2 comments My first post to this group is going to be a reprimand. For all of you young adults who participated in this conversation - you should NOT be posting how old you are! You can give your opinion on how appropriate or inappropriate you feel the book was without giving YOUR age. This is CyberSafety 101. And for the person that started this thread, you appear to be an adult and should have said the same thing yourself by now.

message 213: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 08, 2009 06:28AM) (new)

Here here! I agree Nicole, but it's their choice if they want to divulge their age.

Nicole | 2 comments BookGeek wrote: "I agree too Nicole but you should be worried more about TEENS that put their ages up online. Ture, adults do count but teens are a problem."

BookGeek - I do mean the teens and preteens ("young adult" = teen and preteen)

message 215: by Katie (new)

Katie I'm reading Breaking Danw right now. My age is 10-12.

I THINK THIS SERIES IS FOR ANYONE...I AM 37 AND COULD NOT STOP READING...I READ ALL BOOKS IN 2 WEEKS...I WISH THERE WAS MORE TO READ. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN GEARED TOWARD THE YOUNG, BUT IT REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON YOUR HEART.

Thank you for this post Nicole...I sometimes feel like a nagging mother when I'm the only one saying things like "Don't give out you e-mails, your age or where you live." Now your age must be added. I love this group and almost everyone in here can appreciate the fact that I just really want everyone to be safe!! Thank you for the help!

Shawn Mcmullin | 33 comments Della wrote: "I think you should be at least 11 to read Breaking Dawn"

Oh at least...they say these books are for teens? ha - you have to be able to appreciate the story and at 11 I doubt it. I think the more mature you are the better you will grasp the story.

message 220: by [deleted user] (new)

This is the era where mothers bring their nine year olds with them to see the next Saw, and or R rated romances. Compared to the images on the screen, I imagine Breaking Dawn is nothing for todays children.

Yeah if my 11 year old was interested in reading BD I wouldn't have a problem with it...now if she wanted to read The Sookie Stackhouse books or watch True Blood I would have to put my foot down.

Shawn Mcmullin | 33 comments BookGeek wrote: "Yeah. I'm 14 and my mom won't let me see movies which have sex in them."

Hang in there - tell her to watch the movies first. Twilight didnt have a sex scene...

message 228: by Shawn (new)

Shawn Mcmullin | 33 comments Well its too bad...Twilight was an awesome move...I remember one scene where they are kissing but no clothes off or anything...trust me NOT PORN...Maybe she will let you read the books thats not visual...

message 229: by Shawn (new)

Shawn Mcmullin | 33 comments Which one...I guess not in the Twilight series? There has only been Twilight and then the New Moon comes out in November.

message 230: by [deleted user] (new)

Awww.

My mother could care less.

message 231: by [deleted user] (new)

It's too bad your banned from watching certain movies.

message 232: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol. When I was eight my friend Johanna and I wanted to see a horror movie, but at that time my mother actually cared about what I watched. So we went to the video store, and slipped into the horror isle.

Johanna took a copy of a Barney the purple dinosaur movie, and switched the dvd in the boxes, for the first horror we found, Evil Dead.

It looked, like we were just two eight year olds renting Barney. Instead, we rdented an old horror classic.

I bet the guy that rented Evil Dead afterwards was really angry when he found Barney singing on the screen. :D

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

I lived a full life before I even went to middle school. Things nowadays seem boring in comparison.

message 234: by [deleted user] (new)

Middle School. *Shudders*

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

im 11 and i read it. my mom read it first though. but most of the stuff went iver my head. so i am clueless!!

message 236: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol, it'll come to you some day. I got the same feeling trying to read Puerto Rico 1898 The War After the War. I don't think I'll be able to read it until I'm at a collage level. :(

message 237: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 2 comments yeah... im 11 and i read it when i was 10... i understood it and i think parents think it's really innapropriate but i don't think it's detailed enough to be innapropriate... so im reading the whole series again. im also reading midnight sun.

message 240: by [deleted user] (new)

Whenever I get mad I take deep breaths *Zen*, because apparently, being mad messes with the chemicals in your body, and hurts you.

message 241: by [deleted user] (new)

It's true, I saw a special on it. They also say, a little bit of dark chocolate (a little bit), and the manufactured andorphines you get from it, help calm you sooner. So now we have a reason to have an emergency chocolate stash. Amen!

I think that is exactly why they should read it... Sex comes with responsibilities!

Good point Tiffany

message 245: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think there should be an age limit, I think there should be a maturity limit. I swear, some sheltered women in their twenties would probably hyperventilate. However, I think I could have read this book when I was ten. Especially when, in modern society, kids are going to see R films at four and getting pregnant at sixteen. It's sad, I know. But it's really not about the age. I would keep this book away from my fifteen year old friend Katelin, and reccomend this book to a twelve year old I know who has read these things before.

message 247: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) umm some of my kids (im a youth intern) are reading the series, and i have to say im a little weirded out. they're 9 and 10 and reading ECLIPSE. hey, i love the series, and i started it when i was 20, but i think 9-year-olds reading about love and relationships is kind of weird. i was old enough to appreciate the relationship stuff (and lets face it-- bella trying to have sex with edward? a 9-year-old reading that i find weird!)

message 248: by Tiffany (Dawkins) (new)

Tiffany (Dawkins) Dawkins (tiffanydawkins) | 44 comments Yes I have a 9 year old daughter, The books that she reads are Judy Blume and Hannah Montana. She is not quite interested in the Twilight series and if she was I would let her read the first one and if she had questions thats where it would end until later!

message 249: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) yeah TWILIGHT seems okay, and maybe even NEW MOON (though some of my 9year olds are like "so what edward left GET OVER IT!!" haha) but the last 2? i'd make them wait, too.

message 250: by [deleted user] (new)

We have nine-year-olds that have read twilight and loved it, in this group. They don't seem to be scarred for life. Plus, Amelia, I was thinking "Get over it" too, and I'm over the age of nine. ;)
