Series about kids with powers [s]

This book is part of a series, in it, kids are taken to an island or someplace and they all have certain powers. I think they are kind of kept like prisoners (maybe). I am almost positive their powers have to do with the elements, maybe no. I recall it was third person or it went from different peoples point of views.

Some of that sounds a bit like the Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce, each book is from a different child's point of view, they're all linked together but their individual magic is based on different factors/elements(fire/metal, plants, weather, weaving). They aren't prisoners but are gathered together in one place.
