Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Thanks to Randy Randomizer, the m/m buddy read for June is going to be Out in the Field

Its available from Loose-ID (which I learnt last weekend is actually said Lucid...), as well as on Amazon - so hopefully everyone who wants to can get a copy

message 4: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited May 26, 2012 01:30PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Well, I'm in! I love the sound of this book - reminds me of The Locker Room, but then not (if that makes sense)!

I have always thought Loose-ID was pronounced in 'full' - will have to retrain myself! Thanks Dee :)

Thanks Fran for the discount code - I hadn't got around to searching for it yet... ;)

Does anyone have a preference for timing?

message 5: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Fran | 12278 comments I thought it was Loose ID, pronounced two words too! I think I will always say it in my head that way :)

Any time in the month of June is fine with me.

message 6: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments since MK was nice enough to give a GLBT category for the pick it for me, remember to throw this book out there guys - maybe we'll get some newbies

message 7: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments LOL - the die hards ;)

I'm not in the PIFM again... I love picking the books for others to read, but I'm a bit slack about reading the pick options for me :(

message 8: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i might have convinced Jim to come and join us ;)

message 9: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited May 31, 2012 09:45PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Great! Actually Jim should like these sort of books - they are contemporary and are no heavier on erotica than most M/F books. Not sure about this month's pick as I haven't read any books by Kate McMurray...

message 10: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments niether have I - i need to read my bingo book and then i'm going to start this one i think

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Fran - how are you feeling today?

message 13: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Fran | 12278 comments A little achy but ok, thanks Dee :) it's the thinking of how much worse it could have been, how lucky we were...need to try and shut my brain off for a while.

Now getting behind the wheel again....can't picture it.

message 14: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Keep focussing on other things Fran... Hopefully it will start to fade.

message 15: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I've just bought the book (courtesy of Fran's FW code ;), but I also have to knock off my m-preg bingo book... It's pretty funny so should be finished by end of today. I can start after that, too.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Jane what one u reading? I really liked sacred fate by eresse

message 18: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Jun 02, 2012 10:50PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Everyone rec'd Sacred Fate, but I read Scales And A Tail - I couldn't go past it's ludicrous set up! Just finished a couple of hours ago :) ...A white shifter bunny obsessed by sparkly objects mated to a shifter dragon prince... It's a Glen Stormy book - I know a lot of ppl avoid her writing, but this is my first book by her I think. I'm still reading another one by her - I'm halfway through but my reading on that one has been really disjointed - through no fault of the book - just circumstance...

message 19: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Jane - you should really read Sacred Fate ;) but then i'm not a stormy glenn fan, i just laughed at the one mpreg one by her I read

message 20: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Well I definitely laughed during Scales & a Tail - but I was meant to :) I will read Sacred Fate one day - perhaps someone will rec it to me - or for another bingo category... I'm not overly interested in the mpreg concept, so don't want to use up all the good stories at once!!!

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Just finished Out in the Field. I rated it 3.5 stars - shown as 4 stars. I enjoyed the book but when it came to writing a review, I really had nothing to say... Hmmm, maybe I should rate it 3 stars? Yup, changed to show 3 stars.

Fran | 12278 comments Pushing this one off until next week....

message 25: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hey - you two often enjoy some books more than me, and vice-versa, so please don't be put off. Most ppl rated it as 4 or 5 star ;)

...I think my reading might be becoming more quirky ;) (Think A Matter of Time, Fran)

message 26: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Fran | 12278 comments I am only 11% in and I like it so far. Hoping it continues....

Part of what I like about it is the setting. It takes place in NY, all of the references so far are familiar to me. I have two brothers and two sons that are baseball fans, as well as a Dad and husband who also follow it. So the whole feel is familiar to me. One of my sons is actually at a Yankee game right now, lol. (even though we are Mets fans!).

message 27: by Fran, Moderator (last edited Jun 09, 2012 12:40PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Fran | 12278 comments OK Jane, we differ again! I loved it! I loved the setting, the guys, the heart-warming if somewhat unrealistic HEA.

I really enjoyed the peek into what closeted pro athletes go through- the lying, the self-loathing because of the lying, the difficulties of having any kind of long-term or meaningful relationships. It's obviously so difficult, and you feel their anguish.

The ending was slightly fairy-tale but that's the way I like it! Perfect for me :)

4.5*

message 28: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments LOL - well there you go!! I'm really pleased you liked it so much, Fran... There's hope for you Dee ;)

message 29: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments lol, once I finish up Lover Reborn i'm planning on starting this...which will hopefully be tonight, i'm about 75% of the way through LR

message 30: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hey Dee - have you finished reading this yet?

And what about next month? Does anyone have something they want to nominate for this buddy read?

message 31: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments no, i'm soo far behind this month...lol, I have it and my PIFM books for the m/m group still to read - this weekend, I hope

message 32: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments LOL - I feel for you, Dee - but no pressure :)

Ok - here are some of the books I am planning to read soon (next few months), to see if anyone is interested in buddy-reading them...

The Dark Angels: With Wings
The Long Way Home
Some Kind of Magic
Talker
With a Kiss
Nowhere Ranch
Mexican Heat
Our December
Hounded by Love
At Piper's Point
Out of Bounds
The Heart of Texas
Burn

Fran? Dee? Anyone else? Do you have any books you'd like to throw out there?

message 33: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Jane!

I have Talker so I vote for that one. But if you decide to read something else it's fine. I really liked At Piper's Point and Out of Bounds, I'll jump in and chat about those if you pick one of them.

message 34: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments you guys pick...with bingo - I have no idea...lol! i'm in a bit of a reading funk right now

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Dee wrote: "you guys pick...with bingo - I have no idea...lol! i'm in a bit of a reading funk right now"

Have you read Talker, Dee?

I'm not hung up on any book - feel free to throw in suggestions...

message 36: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i have, it was ok...i'm not a huge AL fan like others are though

message 37: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments The other option is Guttersnipe

Isa K is railing against the publishers... It's not necessarily something I would choose to read (mainly because I'm not into slave themes) - I'm going to give it a go though if it isn't too long :) If you sign up to the challenge then she'll email you a coupon for 60% off. Here is where you sign up: http://www.guttersnipe.info
(she promises not to chase you even if you don't complete the challenge...)

So that is another book that is a bit out of left field :)

message 38: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments ehhh...i have certain opinions about her i won't post here...

AL is a bit hit and miss for me, but I haven't rated any book below 3 stars...

message 41: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments So we'll can the guttersnipe option... I wasn't sure that I'd fit it in anyway...

I'd be interested in Frat Boy which I don't think Dee has read...

message 44: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Will we go with Frat Boy then?

message 45: by Shell (new)

Shell | 2 comments I'm in for this one. :) I've finally gotten rid of some of my stresses. :)

message 46: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments LOL Shell! Glad to have you rejoin us.

Are you in for Frat Boy and Toppy or do you have time to read Out in the Field in the next 3 days? :)

message 47: by Shell (new)

Shell | 2 comments I'll shoot for Frat Boy. I think I'm gonna tackle some of my other books in the next 3 days that have been piling up, if I can ever surface from audioland. :)

message 48: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i finished up Out in the Field last night - overall I enjoyed it - I think that the author did a good job of identifying how people in the spotlight (in general) often have to hide who they truely are (unless you are Snooki or one of the Kardashian idiots). it wouldn't surprise me real soon to see a big named sports star come out of the closet...who it will be...anyones guess...I'd def. check out more by her in the future

message 49: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'll post the Frat Boy read later today if everyone is happy with that choice :)
