Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments For the sake of balance, I could have pictured Jim doing the same thing!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Now I think I shall have a lie-down! ;)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Whereas I think I need to go and look at something lurid to burn those images off my retinas! I'm sorry Jim but we can easily reach Tsarina in my snurd.

Cheers

MTM

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I have a handy amulet too (well Alloria has), which gives access to the entire universe.

message 2805: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Face it Jim, wherever you go WE WILL FIND YOU.

Mwahahahahahahrgh!

message 2806: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Hence my policy of lurking here. Everybody is so busy dashing about doing wild and exciting things I sit quietly here and write

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments All I seem to do these days is format stuff. It's never ending.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I'm waiting for GL to produce a pic of Jim in a grass skirt...

I need to do more of that, Will. Only done one book so far. Some how I always seem to find something I'd rather be doing.

It would more likely be made of binder twine.

message 2811: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I'm lucky, I'm back into writing again :-)

Or will be when the chuffing telephone stops ringing

message 2812: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Off to ring Jim....

message 2813: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments pah, I'd be surprised if you managed to get through!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments What, is this all your fans calling you to demand another book?

message 2815: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Must ring DARREN as well.

message 2816: by Jim (last edited Sep 24, 2014 06:31AM) (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Intriguingly as a SF author most of my fans may buy paperbacks!

Also people buy my paperbacks to give as presents (perhaps to people they hate), which doesn't seem to happen with ebooks

message 2817: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments I seem to have received a £33 payment from my paperback distributor which is pretty amazing seeing as I only make 30p on some of them. I'm assuming it's for the quarter but I'm still pleased.

Cheers

MTM

message 2818: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I was surprised how many paperbacks I'd sold in person :-)

message 2819: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Isn't it annoying that those sales don't help the rankings on Ammy?

message 2820: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Oh, and Have Frog has just had a great review by a Top Reviewer there. Suppose I should advertise the fact.

message 2821: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Never fail to advertise the fact :-)

message 2822: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Oh and I was writing something and it was awfully hard work and I was getting nowhere.
And then I literally found Benor Dorfinngil sleeping on the deck of a barge and suddenly everything fell into place and it became fun again

message 2823: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Great when that kind of thing happens, Jim. The characters really do start to write the story for you, don't they?

message 2824: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Not only that but he made it fun as well :-)

message 2825: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments That's the most important bit!

message 2826: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Absolutely

message 2827: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I love anything with Benor in it. I suspect he contains a lot of pure Jim!

message 2828: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I'd be curious to see the extracting and bottling process then!

message 2829: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's the distilling that's got to hurt!

message 2830: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I just hope my lady wife never comes to that conclusion...

message 2831: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Just so you're not alone... Actually that's what happened with The Pan of Hamgee. He was in a cell with one of the heros to make it more interesting and he took over. I was half way through the book as well.

Jim, I hope the distillitation process doesn't hurt, I love Benor too. I think he's brilliant.

Will, congrats.

Cheers

MTM

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I spent last night writing the sort of character I loathe.

I had to go and shower afterwards, because I felt so horrid!

message 2833: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments That never bothers me, they can always die appropriately in my time :-)

message 2834: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments It's all right for you, I can't kill mine off!

message 2835: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Oh I can :-)
Just had one stuck in the solar plexus with the leg of an artist's easel and pushed backwards out of a fourth floor window :-)

message 2836: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments An artist's response to a critical review, I assume?

message 2837: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments You can still write a scene killing him off most horribly, even if it never goes in the book. It's therapeutic for you and acts like the sword of Damocles for the character...

message 2838: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Will wrote: "An artist's response to a critical review, I assume?"

Who knows what deep meanings a future generation of English Literature teachers will find hidden in the scene :-)

message 2839: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Tim wrote: "You can still write a scene killing him off most horribly, even if it never goes in the book. It's therapeutic for you and acts like the sword of Damocles for the character..."

Or for Will, he could fall back on the ancient Greek theatrical tradition of having horrid deaths reported on stage

message 2840: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Now that's an idea I like, Jim.

message 2841: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Not only that but if anyone picks you up on it you can point out that you're honouring a long classical tradition, Sophocles to Shakespeare

message 2842: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments It's amazing what happens when things come together. 16,000 words of the next Benor adventure done in the past seven days, plus three articles (total 2600 words)

It's good when you just admit Benor back into your life :-)

message 2843: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments :) - told you!

message 2844: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments 16K ???? Wow, impressed, mate!

message 2845: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments 16K plus the other bit, 1600 of which I've already issued the invoices for.
:-)

message 2846: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Kath wrote: ":) - told you!"

Yep
Interesting, I was wondering about your comment about too many names as I was writing in and I'm reviewing them

message 2847: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Whoops! I didn't mean anyone here. :)
I do need to feel that I can pick the book up next evening and still remember who was whom though!

message 2848: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments One day someone will christen their baby boy Benor and I will whimper

message 2849: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The poor kid
