oh it seems to be freaking people out here that Im Canadian and Dave is a brit.
mind you i suppose if you've never been farther..."
Well if it's any consolation, my sister married a Yorkshire chap so we're quite broad minded :-)

It's the words that do it. The 'ordinariness' of the chap telling his story, the fact that the singer isn't supposed to be aware of the pathos in the song.
I do wish I could write something like that

oh it seems to be freaking people out here that Im Canadian and Dave is a brit.

That must have caused a scandal!

I WANT MY COOKIE

I have been know to sing it, even when sober :-)

It must be my age or something, but was looking at the map on Wordpress which tells you where people are reading the blog.
Seeing Vietnam there was freaky enough but explicable because Patti is there, but Myanmar, Singapore and Bangladesh?

Well that's all very well but it's not a cookie is it, hmm?

In which case you'll desperately need this for when your plane lands

I needed a new pair of pants! We were seconds from landing when the plane suddenly went steeply upwards and i had no idea why! Eventually we were told the landing had to be aborted because of birds on the runway. We went round for a second try and the same thing happened again. The third time they brought us in on a different runway. The plane before us had a bird strike when it landed. I caught my train with 3 minutes to spare and didn't have a chance to go to the loo until Rugby.

I've been on a few flights where that has happened. hate it.
seems we'll be on a turbo prop when we fly from phu quoc.
erg

Welcome to third world Britain where we've even got 3rd world temperatures :-)

I am uncomfortable, as a passenger, using any mode of transport that is a compromise between the highest number of passenger numbers that can be carried and safety.
Hence my fear of flying. Or to paraphrase Buzz Aldrin, the scariest thing about going to space was knowing that every part of the ship was built by the lowest bidder.
The Ro-Ro ferry, for example, absolutely scraped the safety tests at pretty much every stage of the process. Pretty much all the recommendations could be paraphrased as, "this thing is a death trap, don't fucking build it". So how did the decision making process go?
Exec 1. "Hey, this thing's shit. Only scraped through the safety tests right across the board."
Exex 2. "Yeh, if it gets enough water in it to capsize it'll go over in 45 seconds."
Exec 1. "Hmm... so if someone on it leaves a tap running it'll go down with all hands."
Exec 2. "That's about the size of it."
Exec 1. "Hmm.... tricky decision."
Exec 2. "Yeh. Pity. You can carry more passengers on it than anyone else."
Exec 1. "You can?"
Exec 2. "Yeh."
Exec 1. "Why didn't you say? Let's build it. Nothing will happen."
Then a few thousand people die and they say. "Ooo we didn't see that coming."
If a ship lists and takes 3 or 4 minutes to sink there's a chance people will get off. But 45 seconds and it's basically down with all hands... unless they were on deck.
I trust buses and coaches because the chassis are made to carry freight and so are easily sturdy enough to carry people. I trust trains... although I'm not always 100% confident of the actual railway.
There we go. That's just me.

I saw that. What gets me is that both his wife and the cow survived uninjured!

Say something Gingerlily, I cannot hear you over the loud music, you'll have to shout.
Hope you had a good trip and have recovered from sundry injuries

mind you i suppose if you've never been farther than the next village, marrying someone from thousands of miles away does seem exotic
