Hello, group! Michael here, foreign affairs buff, Detroiter, reader about to convert to Kindle. Principal interests are terrorism, Middle East/South Asia, globalization, and intelligence history... so very happy to see Legacy of Ashes coming up. Have been looking for a good excuse to read it -- and all the better if there's a good group discussing. Thanks for being so welcoming!
We are happy to have you with us Michael.
Please be sure to take a look at our guidelines when you get an opportunity.

Hi Michael, welcome to the group, I'm sure you'll have a good time here discussing great books with all the crowd.
Michael, welcome to the group we are glad to have you. The plethora of books and topics being discussed should provide plenty of distraction for your reading habit and interests. Please participate at will (minding the guidelines, of course, but those are easy enough.) Welcome!
Hi - I'm Nick. 46, live in the SW suburbs of Chicago, work as a management consultant. I was a voracious book reader when I was younger, slowed down when I hit graduate school and am trying to wean myself of the Web and back to more books. I am switching to Kindle for reading on flights and in hotel rooms as I can go through three paperbacks on a four day trip.My history reading is primarily biographies, with an affinity for military special forces and politicians. I'm looking forward to the Presidential series discussions and have just received my used copy of Grant off of ebay. I got back into presidential biographies after visiting the Truman library last year and picking up a book about his civil rights legacy as a souvenir. I also enjoy spy/con/mob fiction and read a lot of business-related non-fiction.
Hello Nick,
I am sure you will enjoy your time here. And I believe that you and Bryan Craig (who is the Assisting Moderator - Presidential Series) should have some great discussions.
Just jump right into the Grant discussion when you are ready. Great way to get a copy at the right price.
Take a look at post 1815 and our guidelines and then just post when you are ready.

Hello! I am a new member and a graduate student working on my Masters in History and Library Science. My passion is American History in particular.I have also done some high school teaching during my undergraduate study in US Government and World History. What a challenge! I enjoy playing the violin and learning Mandarin Chinese in any free time I may have, which is not much these days. ;) I am looking forward to participating in this group and learning a bunch of things from you all!
Hi Jennifer, welcome to the group, I am sure you will find lots to discuss here in regards to your areas of interest. When you have time please have a quick look at message 1815 above as it outlines the rules and regulations for this group. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you soon :)

Hi All, I'm Kevin, 42 living in Oakville, Ontario. I am a huge fan of Napoleanic War era fiction, particularly Naval fiction. I look forward to paticipating in your discussion of Patrick O'Brians Post Captain.I also greatly enjoyed Bernard Cornwell'sBernard Cornwell Sharpe series. This is the first group that I have joined since becoming a member of Goodreads.
Welcome, Kevin. A great first try on the "add book/author" feature. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Hi Tim, welcome to the group, good to see another person interested in Roman history, hope to chat with you more about some good books in that thread.
Hi, I'm Tasha. I'm an avid reader of historical fiction based especially during WWII but have been jumping into other time periods as well, all as a direct result of GRs :) lately, I can't get enough of WWII military history, a new aspect of my love of that time period. But really, I love learning about all times in history, fiction and non-fiction so I'm glad to have found this group!
Welcome, Tasha. Glad you could join us.Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. Hi Tasha, welcome to the group and I hope you have a great time here chatting about your favourite books and authors.
Hello everyone. My name is Luka, I'm from Croatia, and I'm a bit of a rookie here. I just joined this site and this group so I suppose I should introduce myself.
I'm 23 years old, I study History on the Social Sciences University in Zagreb. Well, to state the obvious: I like history, especially the WW1 and WW2 (as usual, but from a more German perspective) but also literature (science fiction mostly, but also some classical work).
My profile is in tatters so far, but it will grow so I will be able to participate in the discussions. I'm currently reading Ferro's The Great War, and the second part of Kershaw's monumental biography of Adolf Hitler.
So, that's it!
Hello Luka! We are glad you found us and hope you enjoy exploring your many interests and periods of history. Please feel free to enter any of the ongoing discussions. It is a good idea to take a moment and familiarize yourself with the club's guidelines and protocols for how things are administered. Here is the link that will help you get started with that:

One important requirement is that whenever a book or author is referenced to link to the book cover, author photo (where available), and author link. It allows the goodreads software to appropriately reference whatever is being discussed so that folks like yourself can find discussions of interest. The books you mentioned above would look like this:
byMarc Ferro
by
Ian KershawIt allows the software to link to the discussions about the books referenced. If you have any questions any of the moderators are happy to help out.
Welcome.
Luka, welcome from Croatia and thank you Alisa for helping Luka out.
I am sure that you will enjoy your stay here.
Please become familiar with the guidelines and the links that Alisa forwarded.
