Hello all,I just joined this group. My name is Dree, I love nonfiction--especially memoirs, food books, and history. I majored in history in college, and then in grad school. Used to be an editor in a university college of architecture, am now a stay-at-home mom of 2 elementary-aged kids/chronic and burnt-out volunteer.
I especially enjoy American social history of any time period.
And I admit, I tend to come and go in goodreads groups as real life takes over :)
Hello Dree, and welcome. We are glad to have you no matter how sporadic your participation so make yourself at home. Message 1958 by Bentley has links to our guidelines which you should familiarize yourself with before you get started. Glad to have you!
Hello Dree,
Welcome to the group. We are glad to have you with us. Alisa was kind enough to help you out by giving you great advice about looking at the guidelines, etc. You sound like you have your hands full at home so this should be a great diversion to read a little history now and then.

Hello, everyone. My name is Meagan and I am a 20 year old college student, studying Special Education. I love reading everything, but have a hard time finding good stuff to read. Looking forward to discussions here!

Hi Fernanda, welcome to the group and I am sure you will have a fun time here chatting to people about your favourite books and authors.
Hello Fernanda, welcome to the group. We have members from around the globe with a broad range of interests and perspectives so please join in the discussions wherever you choose. We look forward to your participation.
Hi everyone,I just joined the group. I live in Italy and am interested in 20th century history, particularly the history of the so called three totalitarian systems (to which my country has given a contribution of which we have little to be proud of, unfortunately).
I hope I will be able to take part in the discussions of the group.
Hello Rosenkavalier,
Welcome from Italy. Don't be too hard on your country; every country has something to say unfortunately about. And I love Italy, the culture, the arts, the paintings, the food, and the list goes on and on and especially the friendly and warm people.
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Hey Everyone!! or G'day from Australia. Am a massive history buff, nerd even geek if you will. I love from anything ancient to modern, I will devour it all.
Currently I am reading the bio John Adams, which has really surprised me, and I am really enjoying it, considering I did not know a lot about revolutionary America before.
Welcome, Lindz, glad to have here. Take a look at message 1986 where Bentley covers the "add book/author" feature and other helpful links. Here is what your book looks like:
David McCullough
Thank you Bryan for helping out Lindz and welcome Lindz from Australia. We have a few folks from your neck of the woods Lindz. Get to know Aussie Rick and Michael (both Assisting Moderators) when you get a chance.

I've moved this post for Lisa from Australia:Hello, I'm a keen reader, and I like history. I'm a teacher-librarian in Melbourne, fond of small silly dogs, travel to historically interesting places, reading, writing and blogging.
I studied classical history at university, but I'm also especially interested in Medieval and Renaissance history. This is partly because they took place in my favourite travel destinations, England, France, Italy and Spain.
A while ago I started writing, and one day may get round to finishing, a history of the Draft-Resisters Union here in Melbourne. I'm also writing a memoir of my dear old music teacher who was one of the first home-grown concert pianists in Melbourne. I should get round to finishing that one first, but - as my favourite T-shirt says - I'd rather be reading.
Welcome to the group Lisa, I hope you have a fun time here discussing your favourite books, authors and periods of history. When you get a chance please have a look at message 1986 above as it provides links to the policies and procedures required here at the History Book Club.

I'm blaming the after-Christmas 'relaxed feeling', ok?
Hi Lisa, no problems, enjoy the group, I am sure you will have a great time here. Take the time to explore the site and you will find there are sections covering your favorite areas of history. I also enjoying reading about Medieval and Renaissance history and love to travel to the very same regions :)
Thanks, Rick, I've been through the booklist and added a heap to Mt TBR LOL.(How's the weather in Canberra, are you copping the rain?)
Lisa, welcome, we are glad to have you. Looks like Aussie Rick has done a fine job of getting you off to a good start. Hope you enjoy discussing great moments in history.
Thanks Aussie Rick for doing Christmas duty while everybody state side was busy with their Xmas. You luckily (being on the other side of the world) had yours a day earlier.
Lisa welcome to the History Book Club and I know you will get used to things here. We have the rules to keep things nice for everyone and I know that they will not be an imposition for you once you get used to them.

I'm Maekala, new to Goodreads and was poking around groups and stumbled across this lovely group. I've already read through the rules and guidelines and glanced through some of the discussion threads and this looks like the perfect place for me. I did my undergrad in criminal justice and political science and will be continuing my grad work in international affairs and cultural studies. I read all over the place, ranging from linguistics, medieval history, political philosophy and current affairs. I'll definitely be poking around and popping up in the near future.
Maekala, welcome to the group we are glad to have you. Thank you for familiarizing yourself with the rules and guidelines, it will be a huge help to get you off to a good start. If you have any questions along the way please feel free to pop off a note to any of the moderators. We look forward to your posts!
Welcome Maekala,
Here in the metro NYC area we are snowbound. Over two feet of snow last night.
