Thanks for the welcome, Bentley. I had no intention of using this forum for self-promotion. I mentioned that I am a writer for the same reason that I mentioned I'm a former history teacher: In short introductions, people tend to self-identify by profession.
I'm Brad Mohr with a History/Zoology degree from the University of Arkansas back in 1975. I'm now retired from the U.S. Army and Department of Defense after 35 years working intelligence and special operations. Now splitting my time between Arkansas and Florida. I read almost exclusively histories - focusing lately on a lot of American history but also have read a lot of world history (still do). Can't seem to part with any hardbound history book so the collection just keeps expanding.
Brad, welcome. We look forward to discussing great books and moments in history with you. Please explore the threads and join in.
Welcome, Brad. Glad you could join us and you have an interesting background. You probably read Alisa's earlier message, but here it are highlights:
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Yes and I appreciated that. I am especially cognizant of each new author who joins and we are delignted to have each and all. However, for every new join we try to point out the guidelines at the beginning to avoid any accidental issues down the road. As you can see our assisting mods post the policies and practices and orientation and roadmap for everyone.
Take care and enjoy the group...it is a good place.

Hi everyone. I'm very excited to have found a group that reads some non-fiction. I've always been a lover of history and hope this group can lead me to some good reads in the future. I look forward to discussing books with all of you!Christy

Welcome, Christy! Lots of good books are and can be recommended by various members. And there are always several good group reads going on. Have fun!
Hi Christy, another welcome to the group, I am sure you will have a fun time here with everyone discussing great books.
Daisy, welcome! You are among many that share your love of history. We do have a few important and easy to follow guidelines, one of them is the use of the add book/author feature whenever you reference a book. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

Welcome and glad to have you J.
Hello, everyone. My name is James and I love reading History books, particularly nautical history through the ages. My bookshelf here is nowhere near complete, but I am adding to it when I can.
I live in New Brunswick, Canada.

Welcome to the group James.
Hello James, glad you found the group and am sure you will find plenty of ideas to add to your to-read pile.
That's what I am afraid of, Alisa! LOL
Welcome, James. Bookshelves are never complete. Even if you can add everything you've read and everything you own, there is so much left to read! Hope you enjoy the discussions here, too. :)
Hi, I'm Gundula, and while I have a degree in German literature, history has always been my first love. I love both history and historical fiction, being especially partial to British and Canadian history (don't know nearly enough about US history, but I hope that will change). And, if I can figure out where I managed to hide my copy of Guns, Germs and Steel, I will definitely be joining the group read in September.
Hi Gundula,Nice to see you join the group. I am sure you will have a great time discussing great books and great moments in history with the rest of the group.
When referring to a book its requested that you use the add book/author feature to show the book and author like this:

Sorry, about that, I only noticed later that I had to add the cover image and the author (that will take some getting used to, but thanks for reminding me). Also, while I love to read, I am not very computer savvy, but I'm learning.
Hi Gundula, don't worry too much about it, I had the same problem and it took me a little while to get it right :) I'll be looking forward to chatting with you more about good books, have fun!
Gundula, welcome to the group. There is much here to explore and the group has no shortage of folks who like to discuss it all so you are in good company! The add book/author function is pretty easy once you get the hang of it but if you need help please ask. We look forward to your participation.
