Katya
Elemental Mysteries Series by Elizabeth Hunter
A Hidden Fire (Elemental Mysteries Book #1) by Elizabeth Hunter This Same Earth (Elemental Mysteries, #2) by Elizabeth Hunter The Force of Wind (Elemental Mysteries #3) by Elizabeth Hunter A Fall of Water (Elemental Mysteries Book #4) by Elizabeth Hunter

This is one of those series where in the first few sentences you know it is going to be good.

It is a series is well written and an inventive story line. It has characters you love, an interesting take on vampires and some very emotional stuff going on.

I think what I love the most is that the author doesn't force-feed you everything in the first few chapters. It slowly unravels and you get to solve the mystery along with the characters.

Lisa (lisamessegee) | 25 comments It's difficult to know where to start when recommending series, because there are so many good ones! I'm going to assume that most people have heard of the big name series and tell you to check out:
Sentinel Wars, by Shannon K. Butcher
It's a unique, dark series about a dying race of warriors who keep the human race safe from demons. The warriors must find their mates in order to survive. The good thing about the heroines in the books is that they all have powers and are strong characters, too. The books are PNR, in that there is one couple per book, but after a few books we gather a number of characters that we follow.
Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. ButcherFinding the Lost (Sentinel Wars, #2) by Shannon K. ButcherRunning Scared (Sentinel Wars, #3) by Shannon K. ButcherLiving Nightmare (Sentinel Wars, #4) by Shannon K. ButcherBlood Hunt (Sentinel Wars, #5) by Shannon K. ButcherDying Wish (Sentinal Wars, #6) by Shannon K. Butcher

A spicy, sexy series about a group of vampires who work for Scanguards Security Company. Which specializes in security, of buildings to people. They have funny banter and interesting characters. Most of the vampires carry some baggage and are very "human like" with extraordinary abilities.

Katya Vampires In America Series by D.B. Reynolds

Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) by D.B. Reynolds Jabril (Vampires in America, #2) by D.B. Reynolds Rajmund (Vampires in America, #3) by D.B. Reynolds Sophia (Vampires in America, #4) by D.B. Reynolds Duncan (Vampires in America, #5) by D.B. Reynolds Vampires in America The Vignettes, Volume 1 (Vampires in America, #5.5) by D.B. Reynolds Lucas (Vampires In America #6) by D.B. Reynolds

Warm, Sexy, Powerful and Scarey! Vampires and a strong, self sufficient heroine. I love this series. The romance is tops, the action is fantastic and the story is great. Good writing and a block buster of a series. Make sure you read book two right after book one. They are kinda the continuation of the story in book one.

An example of the way the vampire is depicted. In this scene the hero (Raphael) is trying to bust the bad guys who have his sister and he comes upon one of the dudes threatening his Cyn (heroine) I love the way the author describes Raphael...like some rabid animal...:

"Raphael came through the door like a child's nightmare, his eyes glowing an almost solid silver with wrath, his gleaming fangs fully extended, blood painting his mouth a brilliant red, dripping from his chin to shine wetly against the tattered remains of his black shirt. His huge chest was heaving with the fury of his breath, and his hands curled into claws as his gaze found her and he growled a warning. 'Release her, human.'
'Who are you? the man rasped, fear taking away his breath, coarsening his voice.
'Release her.'
The man tightened his grip, 'Come closer and she dies.'
Rachael's mouth widened in a terrifying smile, 'You think to bargain with me?'"

And this is only the beginning of an amazing scene.

Lisa (lisamessegee) | 25 comments Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter

This series is about warriors who are charged with carrying demons within them. There are gods, hunters, angels, and even a cameo of a character from Immortals After Dark. The warriors are sexy and strong, and some of them are funny. The humor increases later in the series. Don't miss it!

In an alternate near future of our world, there are Psy, changelings (shifters) and humans. The Psy are at the top of the food chain, followed by shifters. Psy are conditioned from birth to not feel any emotions. They are connected to each other mentally via the PsyNet. But for some, the conditioning is beginning to fail...

Hey does the Raphael story continue soon or has their story not been finished yet?

message 31: by Katya (last edited Jun 24, 2012 06:11PM) (new)

Katya Vampires in America Raphael?
Raphael and Cyn are the subject of the first two books: Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) by D.B. Reynolds Jabril (Vampires in America, #2) by D.B. Reynolds You have to read both to get their story. Raphael is Master vamp of West Coast - stationed in Malibu CA. Jabril was a crazy-loony South Western Master Vamp who is defeated.

The first book is a very frustrating end to an interesting story but realize it is only half way in that story....you have to continue wiht Jabril to see how Raphael and Cyn get together. And it contains one of the most satisfying declarations of love I have ever read. Raphael is smooth as silk.

Then Rajmund (Vampires in America, #3) by D.B. Reynolds is a stand alone about the consolidation of the North East part of the US under Rajmund - But linked to Raphael (I think he is building this big US vampire conglomerate all under his thumb.) R&C put in a cameo in this one.

Sophia (Vampires in America, #4) by D.B. Reynolds is about the Master Vamp in charge of the North West part of the US. But honestly it is more about Raphael and Cyn than anything. Again Sophia makes a bargain with Raphael to gain his help in gaining power here.

Duncan (Vampires in America, #5) by D.B. Reynolds is Raphael's Lieutenant who is ready to be on his own and takes over as Master Vamp of Washington DC area....he is Raphael's child as Raphael sired him.

Lucas (Vampires In America #6) by D.B. Reynolds Lucas is also Raphael's child...sired in Europe before he came here to the US. And is the Great Plains Master Vamp.

A really good series....

Noodle The Naughty Night Owl (noodlethenaughtynightowl) Just started reading The Last Vampire (Dark Season #1) by Amy Cross by Amy Cross. What a lovely little story - its a shame they are novella sized, but despite that, I really am enjoying the first and will definitely be getting the next: Sentinel (Dark Season #2) by Amy Cross . Novella versus full length books, what's your preference?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Full length books all the way. I hate falling in love with characters only to have them leave me so quickly.

message 38: by Jai (new)

Jai What a great discussion! I've just added half a dozen books to my TBR shelf!

My recc is the Soul-Linked Saga by Laura Jo Phillips. It starts with "The Dracon's Woman" (sorry no cover, I looked!). There are five books so far.

Alien world much like ours, abduction, werecreatures, alpha males, menage (but, oddly, not kinky-sexy menage).

They seem to be indie published, so there are some errors occasionally, which annoys me, but not enough to quit or not read the next one in the series.

Oh , I love this series - there are actually three sections planned . Each section has 6 books , I believe. The first section is out and the second one , with book 2.1 is coming out end of June , with the rest following within weeks. The last section will come out in fall ( not sure ). So it is actually like a big novel , but interrupted in shorter books, coming out very fast one after the other.

I am reading right now the Aisling Grey , Guardian series - it is one of the funniest book series I have read a long time.

Ute (ucarlin) | 28 comments There is another series , I truly enjoy - I can't always read the dark brooding one , I do need some fun in my books ( at least once in a while ).

The series is called

I'm the Vampire, That's Why (Broken Heart Vampires, #1) by Michele Bardsley Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart Vampires, #2) by Michele Bardsley Wait Till Your Vampire Gets Home (Broken Heart Vampires, #4) by Michele Bardsley Because Your Vampire Said So (Broken Heart Vampires, #3) by Michele Bardsley
Over My Dead Body (Broken Heart Vampires, #5) by Michele Bardsley

Another good series is the Pearl Vampire Chronicles by Dara Nelson The Link (Pearl Vampire Chronicles #1) by Dara Nelson

It is a very different Vampire world, but I love Ms Nelsons style and the story is very captivating. Book 6 in the series is coming out beginning July.

Katrina Sherrilyn Kenyon’s The League series
Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Fire (The League, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Ice (The League, #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Shadows (The League, #4) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Silence (The League, #5) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born Of Fury (The League, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

This isn’t really a "paranormal" series, but it takes place either in the far future or in an “alternate” reality. Where space travel is as common place as flying and there are MANY varied cultures and species of human and humanoids. I personally like to read paranormal because I read for escapism and the farther away the reality of the book seems from the everyday life the more I like it. So, under those parameters this is fabulous! And if you like Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing you MUST try at least the first book! She is very good at taking you far, far away, and you’ll LOVE every minute of it!
