Vaginal Fantasy Introduction Thread
I'll bet that I'm the oldest member of this group: age 75. I've been reading sci fi/fantasy/erotica all of my reading life. Discovered Feicia and Kiala via my son, The One True Bix, who is well known in certain fan and social media circles. Looking forward to a summer of good reads and looking to Vaginal Fantasy to provide the good.
I'm Sharon. I just recently joined GoodReads. I was just wondering, is the romance in this group restricted to M/F or is there F/F represented? I'd read M/M too.
(Re: Sharon's question) We did a month awhile ago with a F/F pick, and a M/M alt, and there's been talk among the forums of more. It's certainly a group friendly toward those variations even if they're rarer as main picks. :)

Based on your interests, I think you'd really like Saga or Y the Last Man.
HiI'm Antoinette - I'm from New Zealand. I'm a teacher, mother and generally quiet geek :-)
I just watched my first VF discussion and now I'm hooked :-D
Are there any other NZers in the group? I wondered if there was a group on this side of the world.
Hi, I'm Beckie, ta-da! *jazz hands* I live in the lush, humid flat lands of Florida but, I was born and raised among the rolling hills and verdant evergreens of Washington state. Basically, I still get rained on, only the rain pours down on me in great deluges, usually, (but not always) accompanied by God's great, booming farts that seem to always be heralded by blinding flashes of lightning. I wish My flatulence was heralded by streaks of lightning but, I am pleased with the giggles they incite from my five year old son. No matter what is wrong with the state of our world, at least my son and I can laugh in the face of flatulence.Quite like a boring fairytale, I met my husband while he was stationed at Fort Lewis when I was 19. Like a lurid romance novel, (my favorite kind) we had lots of sex before marriage. We eloped in 2001, in secret, (well, we just didn't tell family right away because they were disapproving ninny's). He whisked me away to Florida, far from my large, impoverished and discontent family, to his reasonably sized, only slightly less impoverished family. I still feel as if I married, "above my station" but, they've accepted me as their own, (once they realized our match was a true love match).
I found this book club through the YouTube channel, Geek and Sundry. I've been enamored of Felicia since, The Guild. It was one of my Netflix binge watches and I loved every second of it. When I found out the most charming and endearing Felicia had a book club, named Vaginal Fantasy nonetheless, I was immediately taken.
I'm a life long lover of romance novels but I've a special place in my heart for historical romance,(I miss Julie Garwood's and Judith McNaught's historical romance fiction). I'm an avid reader of most books. I love Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen King, Orson Scott Card and many more. I tend to lean toward contemporary fiction but, I love satirical, humorous, horror and science fiction.I'm not a book snob when it comes to genre but, I am one when it comes to style and pacing. I haven't had too much time to read since spawning but, when I do get a chance to read and it's a good, well written story, I am voracious.
I was a bit wary of joining a book club because, while I Loved book assignments and reports in school, it has been a long time since I've been guided to read a particular novel but so far, so good. I look forward to interacting with all of you here! Happy reading!
Hi, I'm Patricia. 29 years old, from Northern Michigan, currently living in the Suberbs south of Detroit.I've been a Fantasy Romance reader since puberty, I'll throw some High Fantasy or straight up Horror every once in a while. I feel naked without a book in my purse or a ebook on my phone.
I'm Brittany!! I'm 24 and just found this group today thanks to one of my friends here on GR. I love Fantasy Romance, but will give anything a chance at least once, (I'm currently reading the lord of the rings trilogy and feel like I'm going crazy). I also usually have a book either in my purse, or loads of them on my iphone!
Hi, everyone! I'm Miri, 29, from Chicago, Illinois. I've loved reading fantasy for about 20 years now, and my favorite genre is romantic fantasy/fantasy romance. I've been following the group for a while and have read a lot of the past picks, but unfortunately, I didn't have time for this month's read. I'm looking forward to reading the August pick! Nice to meet you all. :)
Hi everyone. I have been a lurker for awhile. I am almost 32, have a step-daughter that is 4. I am a linguist by education but a writer/blogger.I am part of two other book clubbish communities. Spoonie squad, as I am a spoonie and very active in the community. I am also part of the Militant Baker's bad ass babe book club. I have been an avid reader all of my life.
I love YA, paranormal romance, lit, classics, steampunk and so many others! I love Gail Carriger, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Holly Black, Nicole Peeler and Neil Gaiman. I also love John Green.
Hey everyone!I am Jan and I am completely new here. Plus I am dude. Sorry.
I have watched a couple of episodes of Vaginal Fantasy over at youtube and liked them very much but I had not joined the group so far.
I am mainly here because I coincidentally just bought the audio book version of Uprooted and when I realized it's the new pick I finally had no reason anymore noz to join in ;-)
So, looking forward to some interesting discussions!
Jan
Hi I'm Caley *waves awkwardly* I'm from a teeny town in Scotland and currently live in AberdeenI like books
I enjoy whimsy
I've been meaning to join for a while as I've been a keen viewer of the YouTube show for ages :D
Hi! I'm Cristina, 26 years old and I live in Austin, TX! I'm a new mother to a baby girl and bookseller at local bookshop, BookPeople. I've been reading book in this genre forEVER so I was pretty thrilled when I discovered Felicia Day had this bookclub recently! Happy to have joined in :)
Hi! :) Im Nicki, 35 years old from Scotland. Mother to 4 boys. Reading addict and semi-retired Evony addict lol.:D
Hi all. My name is John. I've been watching Vaginal Fantasy on YouTube for some time now, even though I haven't been reading the books, because Felicia and the gang are charming and funny, and I feel like they give good insight into what makes a book entertaining and engaging or not. This month though, I decided to read the main pick, Uprooted, and I'm enjoying it so far. When I'm not reading, I'm drawing and/or writing. I've digitally self-published some erotica short stories with a writing partner, under a pen name (I can't tell you the name though. We're keeping it a secret, as we don't want friends and family reading it), and I'm currently working on a fantasy short story series with a romantic element, which I'll publish under my realname.
Hi! I'm Kelly and I'm a 26 year old from Chicago! I'm fairly new to this and came across VF from the Geek and Sundry page. I usually read sci-fi, fantasy (LOVE urban fantasy), and graphic novels and love romantic plot lines in books but have only found very few romance novels I liked. I think I have just been reading the wrong ones and I'm ready to try new books!
My schedule is sometimes unpredictable so I'll probably pop in and out and join in as much as I can. I can't wait to get started on the current book!
Hi, I'm Melissa. I live in Georgia. I'm a lover of all books but mostly read science fiction/fantasy, YA and mysteries. I have been on a bit of a non-fiction binge lately. I'm a long time listener to the Sword and Laser podcast and have wanted to join in on the Vaginal Fantasy group but just haven't had time. When I saw that both picks were Uprooted, I figured now was a good time. I'm looking forward to interacting with you guys and getting to know the group. Now I think I'll go watch some You Tube videos. ;)
Heya.I recently discovered this provocatively named group via Felicia Day's Twitter feed and was intrigued.
As an avid reader of most anything fictional, I am super excited to become a member of such a diverse online community, especially one celebrating female empowerment.
I am currently attempting to complete the '1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die'. It is proving a rather slow endeavour. However, worthwhile, because it encourages me to explore beyond my usual preference for YA/fantasy/Regency romances and experience some of literature's greats.
At present, I am enjoying Ovid's 'Metamorphoses' and both the nominated titles for this month: 'Moon Called' and 'Uprooted'.
I look forward to future discussion with y'all. :)
Shout-out to my fellow Aussies!
-Erin
Hi, I'm Jeannette, and I've heard about this group a few times in the past, but suddenly realized I'd never joined. So here I am! My fave genres are probably sci-fi and fantasy, but I love to read everything, honestly. So excited to join because I just read Uprooted and I really enjoyed it, and Moon Called and the Mercy Thompson series has long been one of my favorite urban fantasies.
Hey! I'm Julio (as you can see in my account name), from Brazil.I've been watching the hangouts for almost a year but never read any of the books. I think it's mostly because I'm a bit afraid of all the sexy abs that would show in my "read" list.
The (no abs)Uprooted crossover with Sword and Laser was the excuse I needed to start reading along with you all!
Hi, I'm Becky, I live in Moundsville, West Virginia. I'm a lover of all genres of books, however I more often than not land on SciFi/Fantasy. I've decided it was time to stop lurking and start participating.
Hi. I'm Shannon. I live in Seattle, and I've been lurking here ever since I discovered this group through the Sword and Laser podcast. I only decided to start posting when I found out there was a VF meetup being started in Seattle.I read across a lot of genres, both because I'm always willing to be surprised by something new, and also because my job requires it, but my first love is fantasy, followed closely by contemporary romance and science fiction.
I am looking forward to reading Uprooted, and I've been meaning to reread Moon Called for a while now so I can keep reading that series.
Hey everyone! I'm Akaria from Brooklyn, NY. Reader of a little bit of everything, but expert on none. Author of urban fantasy romance. I found this group by looking at what groups my GR friends belonged to. Hoping to find some good recs for my TBR list. Cause one can never have enough books!I really liked Moon Called, but fell in love with Briggs Alpha & Omega series. Love those tortured heroes!
Hey everyone!!I'm Kaity from Baltimore, I'm a nurse and have a huge pulsing hard on for all things sci-fi especially if they're sexy!! Have been a Felicia fangirl since forever, so excited to finally start following this group! Would love to create a Baltimore meet up if anyone else lives nearby!
Hi all! I'm Jessica, from Upstate New York. I am a voracious reader of many genres, romance and smexy books included. I self-published my own novel last year, and hope to have the sequel out by the year's end. Also a bit of a gamer. When I'm not reading, writing, gaming, or stopping my two young sons from inflicting bodily harm on one another (or themselves, for that matter) you can find me working as a NICU nurse :)I am excited to have found this group! Uprooted has been on my "to read" list for some time, although I don't think I'll be able to meet the deadline for the discussion, since I only just found this group and am already in the midst of two other books at this time. (I started reading Station Eleven, saw Felicia's review of it here on Goodreads, got super excited at the discovery that we can follow her book reviews, and subsequently learned of Vaginal Fantasies; during all of this, I also purchased and began reading You're Never Weird on the Internet).
While I get acquainted with the group here, might I make some book recommendations for those who are interested? A coworker of mine at the hospital is also an indie author, and the ebook version of her contemporary romance novel Let Her Go (a 2015 Kindle Scout winner) is currently on sale for $1.99.
I'd also like to bring attention to Australian indie author Andrea K. Host. A decided feminist in the best (and truest) sense of the word, Host writes strong female leads and avoids tired tropes. In fact, she made a point of having an equal split of male and female characters in her latest book, including bit parts and "extras", and had some reviewers criticize that there weren't enough male characters - most likely just because there was a larger percentage of women than we are used to! Host's books are mostly fantasy, with a smattering of sci-fi in the mix. And did I mention she's a fellow gamer? If you count yourself one, too, some of the references in her science fiction The Touchstone Trilogy will make you SQUEE. Also, Host is the master of slow burn romances. No instalove here, just two equally enjoyable characters whose feelings for one another smolder between them as things heat up to a boiling point. I just love her books!
Lastly, Intisar Khanani is another indie fantasy author who writes strong female leads and throws tropes to the wind. Both authors also realize the importance of culturally diverse characters, as well. My favorite of Khanani's work so far would have to be Sunbolt. It's a novella with a full-length sequel in the works, and also incorporates a refreshingly unique romance that will get your pulse thrumming.
Alright, this post has gone on long enough. Happy reading, everyone!
Of course I don't mind! I just wasn't sure about the proper etiquette regarding advertising my own book here. I guess I'll go ahead and post the link, and someone please let me know if that's frowned upon :)This is my book: The Sentient
I happened upon the Vaginal Fantasy listopia and was astonished that my guilty pleasure genre has its own group. I had no choice but to immediately join.I'm Grace, and I live in Annapolis, Maryland (USA) with my husband and dog.
I was a voracious reader as a child, and as soon as I discovered my elementary school library carried non-children's books, I never looked back. Fantasy is my favorite genre, and the romantic injection is always welcome in lieu of the hard sci-fi style.
The first series I read that hooked me on this sub-genre were Irene Radford's Dragon Nimbus: The Glass Dragon, The Loneliest Magician, The Perfect Princess
For middle school me, these were scandalous and salacious. Combined with my exuberance for anything that took me out of my small town world, I have filled entire walls (yes, plural) of my house with books predominantly in this family.
This group in particular seems like a good home for me, because my geek-ness expands well beyond just the genre. Video games, movies, I devour it all with equal giddiness.
Send me your recommendations, peruse my shelves!
Hi! My name is Leigh. I'm from TN, but am currently living in Chicago with my partner Christina, cocker spaniel named Toby and two cats Tuxedo and Retty Betty. I just recently stumbled upon this book club and never knew what I was missing out on! I've always been a fan of Felicia's and I loved many of the previous picks, so I'm excited to see what's in store! I love the Fever Series (the alt pick from this month), anything Sarah Waters, Kim Harrison, and Laurell K. Hamilton. I'm also into all things Whedon, gaming, crafting, and looking at the world from a queer feminist perspective. If anyone wants to get together in Chicagoland to talk about all things nerdy, hit me up!
Hello everyone, I'm Janell and I currently reside in Nampa, Idaho. I'm going to be 25yo next month and have been following VF for quite a while but didn't decide to join until now because the alt book for this month is the start of one of my current faves despite all the problems it may have. I thought I would lend my two cents on Darkfever and see if I can follow along with some of the future picks. I didn't join before because I just don't have any extra cash to read a lot so I mostly just like to follow along for the entertainment and discussion.I spend a lot of my time playing video games (LoL, Minecraft, Don't Starve, etc.), watching people play video games, making videos about playing video games... I do other things not related to video games as well including a bit of blogging, drawing, crafting, writing, reading, baking, forum based role-playing and trying to manage my mental health as best as I can.
よろしくお願いします Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
I am pleased to meet you and look forward to reading along when I can and discussing.
Hello,Im a long time lurker and have been following VF for probably over a year now. I'm a video game artist, mother, and have self published my own fantasy graphic novel.
VF is my favorite literary podcast and has gotten me back into reading romance and fantasy again. I feel like these ladies have such a positive outlook on the genre and that each shows gets me excited for the next book!
I I greatly enjoyed Uprooted and was happy that for once I have already have read the next pick, Rosemary and Rue, which i look forward to discussing with the community (especially since i'm a SF native).
Nice to meet you all! ^__^
Hello all! I'm Elle and I've had a Goodreads account for a long time, but I haven't really been using it. Since I've decided I'm going to get back into reading again, I've decided that I should be more active on Goodreads! There's nothing worse than that "I've just finished a good series and now I don't know what to do with my life" feeling, right? So, I'm looking for friends, fun, and recommendations! I'm 25 and my favorite genres are PNR, Murder-Mystery, and I'm slowly getting into Steampunk.
My name is Catherine and I live in Tallahassee, Florida. I'm currently working on my MLIS degree at Florida State University and I wanted to get back involved with the Vaginal Fantasy page so I could find new people and new books to enjoy. I love paranormal romance and most multicultural literature. The books with good reviews on here have all been amazing, so I'm hoping that trend will continue! I've also decided to try my hand at writing again, so I can have a productive hobby and maybe take a stab at changing some of the things I don't like about romance novels.Nice to meet you all!
Hi. I'm RangerGirl from Dallas, Texas. I am an avid reader of all types of books. This group was suggested by a moderator in a different group and I've watched a couple of the YouTube videos. They are great! I will probably lurk for a little bit cause I'm shy that way.
Hi! I'm Cori! I most recently read Ernest Cline's Ready Player One and Armada (late to the party but got to read them back to back). I enjoy all types of books. Some of my heroes are Tamora Pierce, Gail Carriger, Kelley Armstrong, Garth Nix, and Neil Gaiman. New people I've discovered recently who are having a huge impact on me are Ernest Cline, Shelley Adina, Rachel Aaron/Bach, and Naomi Novik.
Hello Everyone! My name is Eliza and I am WAY behind on joining this group. I've been told for years that I would fit in and now I'm finally ready to stop by and say hello (so is my introvert!). I've been a reader since forever and a writer (for realzies) in the more recent years. I'm a gamer, a geek, and a blogger. You can find me on all sorts of social media but I'm most active on my website and blog (www.imaginaryadventures.me) and twitter @ElizaLeone3.
I look forward to talking with you all and sharing our love for books!
Happy reading!
~Eliza
My name is Victor, I am totally new to book clubs or women's literature. I am 29 and I did an absurd amount of things in my life. So it's that time to add the next thing and try to have fun :D
Hiya, my name is Nina, I'm 26 years old and I've been searching for a nice (online) book group but every group I joined bled out after a few weeks. through watching some shows on Geek & Sundry I came out at VF.So I look forward to joining and reading with you.
Nice to meet you and I hope we'll read lots of books together from now on ;)
Hey there, Amie from NJ here. At 25 I've finally realized I kind of like romance. I've always had a weird kind of block about it...any time I saw a romance novel I would think, 'That is not for me because I don't enjoy romance.' But actually, I do. Well, some romance. Paranormal, horror, or fantasy romance. When I'm not finally realizing I like reading the books I've been reading for over a decade, I'm probably reading comic books, rearranging my bookshelves or resisting the urge to tap the glass of my fish tank.
Hey,Melissa from Ontario, Canada. I LOVE reading, have since I was a kid. I read everything from horror, romance, urban fantasy, adventure, biography, classics, science fiction and etc. Though I'd have to say Urban Fantasy is probably my favorite. Am also a big fan of Supernatural (tv show), and Felicia Day. Actually just read Felicia Day's Book, which is what brought me here. That, and, I watched some of the monthly review vids off youtube, which were fun. I read the alternate book from last month... well the whole series, so far. *G* And the alternate book for this month, the whole series too. *L*
:-)
Hi guys!I'm Maddy from Alabama. I'm a gamer, geek, writer and book enthusiast. I've always loved reading and am an aspiring novelist. I'll read literally anything! I'm a huge Felicia Day fan, actually my boyfriend heard about this group and has been saying I should join for a while and I just finished Felicia's book so I thought why not... and here I am! Looking forward to being in a nice only book club and reading with everyone!
Hello,I'm Thaís, from Brazil. I joined the group last month, just in time to catch up with the "Uprooted" reading. Unfortunately, I didn't participate in the group discussions, but read the book, though.
I started reading “Rosemary and Rue” today, and I’m simply lovin’ it! It also helps that a lady with a really nice voice is narrating the audiobook.
Hope to have tones of readings and finding out new books!
Hello all! Long time staulker, first time poster. Old enough not to want to share my age. I love books with romantic sub plots, but get bored when the romance takes over. Hoping to make some new friends here!
Hi everyone! My name is TR, and I'm a 35 year-old author, IT professional, and blogger from eastern Washington state. I've been a casual lurker for a while since discovering the group on Geek and Sundry, and recently decided to take the plunge and go ahead and join the group.
I've loved reading for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite authors are: Brandon Sanderson, Gail Carriger, and Ernest Cline. I'm also a gamer and all-around geek-type person.
I've read very few romance books in the past, but have enjoyed them and hope to make some new friends and discover some great new books here.
Hello!I've been stalking this group for awhile. So I have finally decided to introduce myself, Hopefully I can meet some awesome people here.
I'm 28 and originally from Texas. I've always loved reading and for the longest time I tried to suppress my romantic side. Luckily, it finally escaped and I am glad it did. I play video games, love movies, and occasionally painting.
I love reading all types of books but lately I have really been into romance and I am excited to find other people who share this interest.
Hi everybody! My name is Chanda. I'm a bit intimidated by the huge posts everyone else has left behind and I'm not quite sure I'm nearly as interesting, so I'll keep it short. I am turning 25 this year (in November, actually!) and have been reading pretty much my entire life, however the past few years have been more consumed with gaming than it has with reading. I have felt a load of stress recently and I have discovered reading again, which helps to slow things down and calm me in a way that gaming can't.
I hope to get to know some people here! I don't have high expectations because the forums on goodreads seem a bit strangely laid out? and poorly organized, but I will cross my fingers! I'm excited to start on the next book with everyone.
Hurray for my first goodreads post ever :)
Hi all. Just joined the other day because of random internet rabbit holes. I've been retroactively logging what I've read this year and ever. I've been reading romance novels since I was like 12. My mom gave me my first one when I was in 7th grade, also gave me my first Steven King novel around the same time. Hilariously she refused to let me read Dracula 2 years later because of reasons... Most likely someone else told her I shouldn't. Still amusing to me.

Let's say I love when they fight a lot, and I am totally partial for the Unsolved Sexual Tension.
Unsolved because I tend to read a lot (like 3 book in two days) so hard-core/rated scenes get old easily for me after the 3rd-4th one I read in less than one hour....
