Something from Demi-Devil.

--

“Hello, Daniel,” the doorman said, taking a seat on the
sofa next to Juliet.

“Let me guess,” I said, “your name is … Romeo?”

“Ha, ha.” He glared at me.

“This is Liam.”

“So you do have a name,” I remarked sarcastically.

“I knew there was a reason I never liked you,” he murmured.

“Don’t feel bad, the feeling’s mutual.”

Juliet cleared her throat. “Excuse me.”

I turned to her. “Yes, is there something I can help you with, madam?”

“I don’t remember you being so rude.”

“You’ll get used to it,” Liam sighed. “He likes to glare at people to.”

“Are you talking about yourself again, Liam? It’s not very nice to turn all the attention to yourself you know. People like to talk about their problems, too.”

He glared at me again.

“Alright, alright,” Juliet cut in. “I can see you guys won’t be friends.”

“We’re friends now, Juliet? But we just met. When’s the week-a-versiary?”

She glared at me. “You’re very funny.”

“Thank you. Cindy thinks I am, too.” I waved at the service counter.

Thankfully Cindy wasn’t looking my way.

I cleared my throat. “So,” I said, trying to sound casual. “What else is there to talk about?”

He glanced around at the Perfects seated at the tables around us. “Oh, whatever Perfects talk about, I guess.” He gave me a half smile.

“Rainbows ... fluffy bunny rabbits ... unicorns,” I suggested, smirking. Then I frowned. “You’re not drinking your coffee,” I commented, realizing it at pretty much the same time that I said it out loud.

He looked down disdainfully at the cup of dark liquid, on the table in front of him. “I hate the stuff,” he admitted.

“What?” I exclaimed, surprised. “Then why did you come?”

He shrugged. “Because you asked me to?”

“And you weren’t going to say anything?”

“Well, I didn’t want to be rude. And anyway, I didn’t think you’d actually notice.” He was smiling like he found this amusing, but I still felt guilty.

Boys. I had never understood them, and I never would. Ever.

“So, you really hate coffee?” I clarified. “Seriously. Why?”

“Because ... it tastes like pond scum.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Yeah? Have you ever tasted pond scum?”

“No. But if I did taste it, it would probably taste like coffee.”

I laughed. “Well, then. I should try drinking pond scum more often, huh?”

Just Plain Ray (Ray_of_Sunshine) | 2557 comments This is a scene I typed up a few days ago that I'm going to add to Forever when I edit...just some fluffy romance:

Zane sat on top of the jungle gym at the community park, the rain pouring down on him. His usual-spiky hair clung to his forehead as did his clothes. He leaned back, his fingers curling around a slippery metal pole, and stared up at the midnight sky. The moon and stars were shielded by dark clouds, so the only light that shone on the lonesome boy was the lamp post beside the road.

His father would have killed him for being out this late, but right now, Zane didn’t care.

He just wanted to be alone for a while; away from the craziness of life.

“What are you doing out here alone?” a voice called and Zane looked over his shoulder to see who it was. Max came walking towards him from down the street, his dark hair shielding his eyes, a small smirk on his face.

“I should ask the same thing,” Zane called back.

“I asked first,”

“Smart ass,” Zane muttered, but couldn’t help grinning. “I’m just sitting here.”

“For the heck of it?” Max asked, climbing up the jungle gym easily and sitting beside his friend.

“You could say that,” the other replied, looking away from Max. Heat rose to Zane’s cheeks and he was thankful that the rain was there to hide it. “What about you?” he asked.

“Oh, you know,” Max said with a smirk, “I was just walking around.”

“For the heck of it?” Zane repeated.

The dark-haired boy laughed. “Touche.” He then proceeded to shake the hair out of his face, revealing his bright blue eyes that Zane loved. Zane couldn’t help looking over at him, smiling slightly.

“What?” Max asked, noticing the light sparkling in his friend’s eyes from something other than the street lamp.

He shook his head. “Nothing,” Zane murmured, looking away.

“No really, what?” Max asked, tilting the other boy’s face to look at him. Zane bit his lip.

“Well, it’s just that your eyes … “he stopped himself and shook his head again. “Gosh, I’d sound like such a wuss if I said it,” he added to himself.

Max smiled slightly and leaned forward. “Come on; tell me,” he persisted, “I won’t laugh.”

“They look,” Zane hesitated, before saying, “well, beautiful.”

Max laughed and Zane rolled his eyes. “You told me you wouldn’t laugh.”

“I’m not laughing at you,” Max replied once he had stopped, “I just think it’s cute.”

“That’s not exactly the right word I was expecting,”

“Well, what do you want me to say?”

Zane shrugged in response and Max gave him a light hug.

“Aw, don’t be mad at me,” the latter said in a quiet voice. This time, it was Zane who laughed. “I’m not mad at you.”

“Then what?”

“Oh, nothing. Just thinking,”

“About what?”

Zane shrugged again and the other rolled his eyes.

“Maybe this will spark your brain cells,” Max murmured and kissed Zane lightly on the lips. Zane’s cheeks flushed a deep red and he pulled away after a moment.

“Thanks, I needed that,” he joked, grinning.

Max grinned back. “Anytime, buddy … anytime.”

When he spoke, his voice was shaking. “We have to end this,” he said. “We have to end it right now.”

I felt dizzy. “What do you mean?” When he answered with nothing but a grim silence, I panicked. “You don’t mean ...”

Jack pulled out his sword, and handed it to me. “Kami, it’s the only way. This is what’s meant to be.” There was pain in his eyes, although he was trying to hide it.

With horror, I stared down at the flashing weapon in my hand. I started to shake with dread. I tried to protest, but my voice came out weak. “But ...”

“Please,” he said, in desperation. “This is really what I want. This is what’s best for both of us, for everyone.”

I shook my head in terrified disbelief. “Jack, no. I’m not going to kill you.”

He still wasn’t backing down. Apparently, he had made up his mind. “Please,” he pleaded again, his voice strained. “Don’t you understand? I can’t live with myself anymore -- not after what I did to you. If you let me live, then it’s going to happen again, and I can’t let it. You have to do this.”

“I can’t,” I protested, trying as hard as I could to hold back my tears.

“Why not?” he cried, finally losing it. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t die right now!”

There was a long silence. My mind was rushing. “I ... Because I ...”

I looked into his eyes, which were filled with pain and desperation. The events of the past few days flashed across my memory. I remembered everything that we had been through together. I wanted to say something, but I could only stare at him. He stared back at me, in a challenge, and I knew that this was my decision to make.

I swallowed, knowing exactly what I had to do. My jaw tightened as I took a deep breath. I raised the sword as if to swing ...

Jack’s eyes flashed with sudden panic, and I froze. It was exactly as I had suspected: he didn’t want to die. Relieved, I threw the sword onto the ground. He stared at me, shocked -- but I could tell he was relieved, too.

Then, there was only one thing left for me to do. I didn’t even stop to hesitate about it. I wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip away, because for all I knew, this was my last chance.

So I took that one step forward, closing the distance between us. I looked up at him, staring into his eyes determinedly as he looked right back at me in mild surprise. Then my hand was reaching up, briefly touching his face, before gently slipping down and curving around the back of his neck.

I pulled him towards me, until our faces were only an inch apart. For a split second, I wasn’t sure if I knew what I was doing. Then I was aware of how close we were, and how right it felt, and I knew it didn’t matter.

I closed my eyes and pressed my lips against his.

I tried to speak. “Evin …”

Finally, she turned on me, her eyes flashing with their inner, emerald fire. “What do you want me to say, Max?”

I stared at her, speechless.

“You want me to say that I forgive you?” she continued, with sudden fury. “You want me to pretend that everything’s okay? Because I can pretend. I can pretend that I’m fine with all of this. I can pretend that I can say goodbye to you easily, that it’s perfectly fine if I never see you again. I can pretend that I never felt anything for you, that I never trusted you.

“That’s how I wish it could end. I wish that we could just hate each other and walk away like it was no big deal. But I know that’s not how it is.”

She stopped for a second, still glaring at me, and I could see the film of tears over her eyes. I wasn’t breathing.

“You want to know the truth, Max?” Evin went on, her voice rising until it was almost hysteric. “Well, here it is: I’m not okay.” The words hit me like a slap in the face. “The truth is, it hurts. You hurt me. I shouldn’t have trusted you, but I did, and now it’s too late. And it hurts. It’s never going to go away.”

Something funny from Demi-Devil. :D

“And that’s pretty much it,” I concluded. “So I really need Vince.”

She nodded. “How can someone so young be in so much trouble?”

I laughed. “When you hang around with the wrong crowd karma eventually catches up to you.”

“That’s for sure,” she agreed. “Let’s see … last time I saw him was a while ago. I didn’t contact him, though. He just found me.”

“Yeah,” I nodded. “He has a habit of turning up whenever you need him.”

“You don’t think he will this time?”

I shrugged. “I’m not sure. Usually I can get hold of him through my friend Brann—you remember her—but she’s not picking up. I’m worried something might be wrong with them, you know?”

“Things will turn out alright in the end. You’ll see,” she smiled.

“I really hope you’re right.”

She frowned. “Think of what happened to me when I was younger. And yet, here I am. Doesn’t that give you some sense of what can and can’t happen?”

“What happened with you won’t necessarily happen to me. I’ve lived out a very different life compared to yours.”

“Pfft, so?”

“My karma doesn’t smell too great.”

No, I wasn't awaking from a coma, or unconcious, or anything.

I was just asleep. Deeply asleep. And someone was shaking me.

The first thing I saw was my mother's face.

The second thing I saw was my alarm clock. 7:15 am.

"Stop!" I said as Mom continued to shake me. "Why are you waking me up at this ungodly hour in the morning?"

I turned over and attempted to fall back asleep.

"You know why... It's the first day of high school!"

Yippee. Not.

Brigid ✩ | 1015 comments “It’s not too late,” I said breathlessly, becoming desperate. “Clio, you can still come back to us. We miss you. We need you.”

“No!” she shrieked, her long dagger crashing against my sword again. “You’re lying. You never needed me. It’s the Destroyers who need me.”

Our weapons were still crossed, and neither of us moved.

“Do you really believe that, Clio?”

“I trust them,” she insisted. “They gave me a home. They showed me who I really am.”

“They don’t love you,” I protested.

Clio gave me a blank stare, like she hadn’t heard what I had said. Then she laughed bitterly. “They don’t love me?” she repeated. “Right. It’s not like you ever loved me.”

“Don’t say that! You know that’s not true.”

Clio was shaking now, her eyes flashing. “You abandoned me!” she cried in fury.

“We abandoned you because we thought you were dead!” I shouted back at her. “For the past century, we thought that you were dead, Clio.” I could hold it back no longer, and a strangled sob managed to escape from me. Tears spilled from my eyes.

Clio was silent, and stared at me in disbelief. She took a small step back, lowering her knife. I slipped my sword back into my belt. My heart was still pounding, but I tried to smile through my tears.

“I’m sorry, Clio,” I whispered. “I’m so sorry that this happened to you. We messed up, okay? But we love you, and we want you to come back.”

She stood there, tense with indecision. I took a step forward. “Come back to us, Clio. Please.”

The moments passed, drawn out and suspenseful. I looked into my sister’s eyes pleadingly, and waited for her answer.

Just Plain Ray (Ray_of_Sunshine) | 2557 comments This is a dream I had a while I go, or at least what I remembered from it. I might change it a bit later for this personal project I'm working on...
Here it is:

Tiny oxygen bubbles escaped my lips as I peered through the murky water. Looking down, I noticed an array of wires and tubes connected to my arms and legs, glowing an eerie green color. I held out my green-speckled hand and hit thick glass. Apparently, I was in a giant aquarium. I looked to my right, feeling another presence, and found another occupant.

He had light-blue skin, the color of the sky, and looked mostly human, except for his head. His nose did not protrude out, but was flat against his face instead and his nostrils looked like slits. His eyes titled at an angle and his black irises took up the majority of his cornea that was visible. But the strangest thing that he had was a large fin-like object that protruded from the back of his head. A row of wide gills was lined from his forehead to the back of the growth on his head. Translucent fins also grew from his elbows and the back of his ankles. The fish-man floated gently in the water, wires also attached to his body in numerous places.

He stared straight ahead, having no reaction to anything around him. I was almost afraid to disturb the silence around him—around us.
That wasn’t possible, though, because I heard a rattling noise from behind the glass of the tank. Narrowing my eyes, I swam closer towards the glass. I placed my hands on it and looked past the rows of machines in the room I was in, towards a door that was opening. Light spilled onto the floor and I held up my hand to shield my eyes. I hadn’t seen so much brightness in a while.

I watched as three girls stumbled into the room, tripping over eachother and rolling on the floor. They continued and soon ended up in a pile right in front of where I was floating. I gasped and swam backwards.

“Humans!” I exclaimed in a hushed voice and I looked towards the fish-man. His hands clawed and he looked upwards.

“What is the meaning of this?” he cried in a loud, vicious voice that made me cringe. Smell jets of blood squirted from the gills atop his head and floated in the water for a few moments, before being sucked back into his head.

The tank started rumbling and I looked around frantically for a place to hide, but found none. Taking a sharp intake of breath, my eyes rolled to the back of my head and I passed out.

Brigid ✩ | 1015 comments Here's something from Shades!!

Just as I turned the corner, I saw Lindsay. She was standing on the stairs, about halfway down, and gripping the railing so hard that – if she had tried – she probably could have ripped it out of the wall.

Relieved, I started forward, but right away, I came to a stop again. It was then that I saw the mass of black shapes, oozing around the corner and up the steps: Shades. These ones were grouped together, in a tight clump, moving as one single being. They climbed upward, hissing and screeching all the way.

“Lindsay!” I cried, again.

She whipped her head around and looked up at me. I saw how pale her face had gone. Even so, she tried to cover up her fear.

“Caleb, get out of here,” she shouted.

I stood my ground. “What? I don’t think so!”

“Don’t be such an idiot!” Lindsay shrieked. “I can handle them. I’ll be fine. Now, get the hell out of here, before they …”

By then, it was too late. The monsters had already seen me, and now their black, bottomless eyes were all staring in my direction.

I froze, wondering if I had time to move. My moment of hesitation gave the Shades enough time to scramble up the stairs, breezing past Lindsay as if she didn’t exist. I took a few careful steps backward, inwardly screaming at myself for attracting their attention.

It was too late now – too late to turn around, too late to run. There was nowhere to go. Besides, there was no time. The Shades were only a few feet away from me now, and getting closer with every fraction of a second.

I flinched, bracing myself for whatever was about to happen. I wondered what it would feel like to turn into one of them, whether it would be painful or not. Maybe I wouldn’t feel a thing. Of course, the knowledge of what was going to happen to me would be bad enough.

I didn’t know. I could only wait those few final seconds to find out.
