She did it for her birthday, it sounded like it had been planned before the current trouble started.

I could not agreee more. Very anti-climatic indeed. All these books with this building between Eric and Sookie and finally there was progress only to be completely wiped out.

I will be sad if she ends up with Sam and I think just as annoyed if she ends up with no one. Sam is a great character but like many of pointed out hes a beta for lack of a better word.

I am curious to see how this all ends. Hopefully I wont be disapppointed.

message 53: by Alondra (new)

Alondra | 6 comments I've always been a bit of an Alcide fan myself. Sam was always tied with Eric for second, at least for a while. In the last two books my like of Eric seemed to diminish with every word involving him. He really turned into a jerk towards then end. So if it ever came down to Eric or Sam, I'm team Sam 100%. Plus, if you'll notice, through the books there was always something between those two. The only thing keeping them from getting together was Sookie's conscience saying "He's the boss. You can't date the boss." Especially in Dead as a Doornail. But, if it was my choice, I would have her [Sookie] married to Alcide, heading into Janice's salon to say hey to her sister in law.

Anne | 8 comments As long as it is not Sam I will be happy.

I thought it was genius in Deadlocked when fairy grand-daddy told Eric about the cluviel dor to see his reaction if Sookie ever had 'power' power.

I was kinda hoping she would end up with Bellenos - if not with Eric, but he went back to the fairy homeland. And I thought with his blood not being so appealing to vampires that it work would really well with her connections to the vampire & werewolf communities.

I am not really against Bill - his intentions were not honourable in the beginning, once tumbled, his behaviour was perfect since.

Alcide or Bill would be acceptable really. The real problem with these two - she could have no children with either and it has been made very clear with Hunter that she is an Aunt. No human would work because of the telepaty - unless something happened Tara and she ended up with JB du Rone & was raising the twins :) :) ;)... LOL

I am Team Eric but was really disappointed with his attitude and behavior in Deadlocked :(. I'm still holding hope Eric realizes he's been a major ass and gets ot together.

In Deadlocked I believe Sookie's fairy grandfather told Sookie, she was Eric's one weakness and that Eric indeed has intense feelings for her. However after his behavior that's hard to believe. Or is Eric just showing vampire love? Is that all he's capable of giving Sookie?

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments Maybe we have all been mistake about what this last book is setting up. Maybe Eric will go away with Queen Whatever-her-name-is that he is betrothed to, realize he can't live without Sookie and overturn heaven and hell to finally be with her. THAT would be an ENDING, don't you think?
Not quite as good as her finally ending up with Bill but at least it isn't Sam, for goodness sake...

Brenda Demko | 8 comments Poor Sam. He's such a good guy but we still don't want to see him have a happy ending with Sookie! He just can't catch a break.

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments LOL Brenda, this is true, actually! He is a good guy but....Maybe Charlaine has a soft spot for him too and he will get the girl in the end.

Brenda Demko | 8 comments Maybe. I'd like to see him happy but not with Sookie.

message 60: by Alondra (new)

Alondra | 6 comments Oooh, what about Quinn, everybody? Now that Tijgerin is leaving with their "cub" he's technically single again. Plus his mama may not be part of the picture for very long, and Frannie has run off.

message 61: by Brenda (new) - added it

Brenda Demko | 8 comments I could easily live with Quinn as her happily ever after. :D

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 241 comments This book felt like she wrapped up everyone's HEA and left Sookie's HEA for next book. I'm not thrilled with any of the guys at the moment. I do really like Sam. And he's never let her down that I can remember. Watching the show and the books, I might get confused. So maybe Sam. But Bill, Alcide, and maybe even Eric, but I'm pissed at him right now.

Callye | 2 comments PM wrote: "Maybe we have all been mistake about what this last book is setting up. Maybe Eric will go away with Queen Whatever-her-name-is that he is betrothed to, realize he can't live without Sookie and ov..."

I completely agree with you! I just finished the book. The very last chapter Sookie says that her conversation with Sam is going to be very delicate... I think it is because she is going to have to explain that although she does love Sam, but it is not the same kind of love that he might have for her. I believe Eric is going to change his ways. His character was built up, we now see his flaw, and I believe in this last book Eric will conquer his flaw and be with Sookie. I am hoping I am right about this, but who knows! I just can not see her ending up with Sam. After 12 books of her and Eric's relationship being built up, how can the series end with her and Sam???? Any thoughts???? I would love to hear from everyone!!!

message 64: by Alex (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alex Sosa (alex_james) Ok. So I haven't read Deadlocked yet (I'm still waiting the book to arrive, so if the cluviel door was already used, just ignore my comment), but I think it would be a great ending if Sookie uses the Cluviel door to go back in time. After reading Dead Reckoning, I feel that Sookie is too tired of the supernatural world. Maybe she will go back in time when she met Bill and she will choose not to save him in order for her to stay away from everything. Then her Grandmother would be alive and probably she would end up with Sam.
I think this is possible as somewhere in Dead Reckoning someone said the cluviel door could be used to change the history.
Besides I think it could be a bittersweet ending if it's done properly. Maybe Sookie decides to go back in time because someone she loves dies in Book 13.
Anyway, my mind says something as time travel is going to happen in Book 13.
What do you think?

Simple and different..and unexpected! If that is how it turns out, you should win a prize or something, James. LOL

Alondra | 6 comments Brenda wrote: "I could easily live with Quinn as her happily ever after. :D" I 100% agree with you, hun.

Meredith Barrons | 39 comments Please say that Sookie doesn't end up with Sam. If it isn't Eric, then I will take Bill, Alcide, or Quinn, but no Sam! It's not that I don't like him but there is no chemistry there, and it hasn't even been mentioned in any other book that she might be harboring more than friends feelings for him. Aside from the kiss in the first book, which did nothing for me! It is annoying that she developed the relationship with Eric for so many books just to have it end so abruptly. Soooo disappointing!

Shira | 2 comments Personally, I always wanted her with Alcide... but then again, I loves me some werewolf men.

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments True Blood spoiler alert!
Ok, so....I just watched Year 4 of True Blood and can I say "Way to kill a series!"?? It has been turned into a daytime soap opera, with no depth of characters, no developing plot. Frankly it is even filmed now to have that look that is typical of a soap. Aghhh! Bill kills anyone and everyone, Eric is just there. They might as well not even be vamps. That last episode or two, when Sookie joined in that circle? You have got to be kidding.

Is it just me? Did anyone else feel this way?

Brenda Demko | 8 comments I quit watching it earlier this season. It was one of the few shows I watched.

Callye | 2 comments I just watched tonights finale. What the heck? I can't even watch this show anymore after reading the series. I totally agree with the comment Above... Zero depth.

Sheri My vote still goes to Quinn :)

Sheri Callye wrote: "I just watched tonights finale. What the heck? I can't even watch this show anymore after reading the series. I totally agree with the comment Above... Zero depth."

I haven't been able to watch the show. It's way too different from the books, which I love.

Ashley (ashleyjeffery) | 36 comments The more the show distances itself from the books the more I dislike it.

I really hope Sookie ends up with Eric, Sam is just to vanilla. Blah.

Brenda Demko | 8 comments Well said Alix!

Rozzer | 4 comments I really want her to end up with Sam and, to me, it appears that she will. Ok...so Sookie has said that she would like to have children eventually and definitely doesn't want to be a vampire (can't see this changing) If she doesn't want to be a vampire then I don't think she'd do very well being with Eric.

The ending of Deadlocked just shows how much she cares for Sam and shows that Eric wanted her to save the relationship, and that he wouldn't/couldn't do it. Sam's relationships haven't been working out and 2 (I think) of his girlfriends tried to kill Sookie. Everything just seems to be pointing at her and Sam. She also cut her blood tie to Eric which would seem to be the start of the end for them.

message 77: by Mallory (new)

Mallory (malloryreadsb00ks) | 1 comments So here's my take on things (a little late into the discussion but oh well): I think that Sookie will end up with Sam. I personally feel like the whole series has been leading to that. I saw some comments about how they have no chemistry, but just because they haven't had sex doesn't mean there's not an attraction. Are we forgetting their make out session from book 5? I liked Eric for a lot of the series (I think I started clinging to him bc I didn't like Bill) but I just don't think she could ever really be happy with him. She's spent the last two or three books being basically miserable.

Yes, she's talked about wanting children , and yes, I've heard she will not become a vampire and no vamps will become human, but I feel like it's more than that. She's just not happy, at least for more than a chapter or two each book. All of the drama makes for good reading and I agree that reading a whole series about someone just being happy would not be entertaining, but now that it is almost over, it is time for Sookie to really get her happily ever after.

How could a relationship work with one person immortal and one not? This is why in most vampire literature, the human changes over. Or sometimes the vampire, just not as often. Also, unlike most vampire novel heroines, Sookie has never really wanted to be a vampire.

I also saw a comment that if Sookie was just going to end up with Sam then what was the purpose of all of the vampire crazy stuff from all of the books. Well, here's what I think. In the beginning of the series, Sookie was a (semi) regular girl who felt like she didn't really fit. Everyone thought she was crazy because she could read minds. She didn't know how to control it. Well, Bill taught her how. And even though I feel like more bad things have happened to her than good things since she got involved in the supernatural world, all of her experiences have helped her to figure out who she is, where she fits, and ultimately what she really wants.

Her life up until Dead Until Dark was safe and her dreams for the future were to find someone to be with, have a family with. But she'd never experienced her dark side, her inner badass. And now that she has, at least to me, it seems like she doesn't really want a life full of never ending excitement and danger.

I've been re-reading the books lately, and I've only made it to Club Dead so I can't accurately remember everything, but I feel like there have been a lot of moments throughout that make Sam a deserving contender. He's always been there for her, he doesn't think of her as a possession, he lets her make her own decisions and, like Sookie, doesn't want to be involved in supernatural politics.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love bad boys as much as anyone, in theory. And a lot of the time, I root for them to (at least somewhat) reform and win the girl. But in this case, it just doesn't seem right.

Sookie and Sam never like each others romantic partners, nor do their romantic partners like their friendship. And several characters, if I'm remembering correctly, have made mention of their relationship.

Basically, Sam is a great guy (and yes, a bit of a pushover but I can't fault him for that bc I'm like that myself and furthermore would rather be with a pushover than someone deceitful who tricks me into marrying them.) who deserves a fair chance. I think we'll see Sookie's feelings for him change in the last book. She almost lost him and I hope we get to see a repeat of a line Sam said in book 1. "I couldn't see what was right in front of me until I thought it would be taken away." Or something to that effect.

Maybe I'm totally wrong and maybe I'll be super sad at the end when she picks someone else, but I'm holding out a strong hope for now.

Team Sam forever!

Abbi Saxby | 8 comments I agree with Brenda, further up when she said about Quinn being good for Sookie. I loved him and would have liked to have seen him have a bigger role in the books. I'm glad he wasn't introduced into the television series though, I suspect he would have never looked as good as he does in my mind.
I loaned the books to my mum and she is firmly team Sam, where as I am all for Eric (and Quinn but we all know that won't happen).
Looking forward to see what Dead Ever After has to offer, although think I will have to revisit the last few books as there are a lot of other supes floating around up in my head!

Carla Ionescu i have always been a bill kinda girl ;P. sometime early on CH said that whoever Sookie ends up with was in the first book so i am pretty much convinced that it will be Sam. especially since in the last book she was all jealous and kinda possessive of sam...

for me quinn has always been the one for sookie and i was really pissed when she broke up with him... i think thats when i started to see her as a little shallow... since then the novels have kinda lost their appeal for me, but im reading just to see what happens!!

and yes, as an original TB fan this last season really sucked for me :(( im giving it one more chance and hoping this new season will be better :)

John Nightingale (eagle6764) | 5 comments I am pretty sure that Sookie's HEA will involve Eric being her lover. I don't like Eric but I loathe Bill with a passion and have done since Book 1. Ms Harris has invested too much in the Eric/Sookie relationship to abandon it now so my guess is that Eric will find a way to defy his maker's instructions and not marry Freyda. I think he has treated Sookie badly and I'm still angry about the stunt with the knife and she was wrong to lose her temper with Sam when he told her how stupid she had been and part of Sookie admitted that he was right.

Sam may be a bit dull and ordinary but he ticks all the boxes in terms of what she herself looks for in a man. She has had a thing about him being her boss from the start. If she could have gotten over that she would have saved herself a lot of heartache though the books would have lost a lot of their appeal.

I will never understand the Bill love that is out there and don't really understand why Sookie even talks to him. If I were her and he was wondering around my land like he does I would have the feeling that there was a stalker on my property. He was a user and abuser and has a really nasty side to him. To my knowledge Bill never apologized for the incident in the trunk - his primary concern was his database. Also, I'm pretty sure he expressed no regret for putting himself in her way and "seducing her if necessary", so I guess he thinks he was following orders so his conscience is clear - mine wouldn't be. Having got my Bill rant out of the way my summary is that Sam is a better choice for Sookie but that Eric will form a part of her HEA. This book kind of lacked punch for me and made me glad that the end of the series is in sight. The last Sookie book that I really enjoyed was Dead As A Doornail. Subsequent books were great in parts but felt really drawn out and in Deadlocked I felt Ms Harris was running out of ideas.

Belinda Garcia (belindavasquezgarcia) | 22 comments I must confess that I've only read the first 4 books, but I just love the hbo series. The only thing that bugs me about the books that I've read so far is that Charlaine Harris spends so much time (I think last time it was 65 pages) letting you know practically every single thing about what happened in every previous book. Does she continue to do that? Should I finish reading the series? I got a bit tired of reading in each book that Sam turns into a dog and no other information about Sam.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments You'll learn more. Since it is a series, she does tend to re-cap. But sometimes there is tid-bits you didn't get before. You will learn more.

And as much as I am "Team Eric", Charlaine knew from the first book how it was going to end, and Eric started as a minor character for her. To me, that's the nail in Eric's coffin as much as that makes me sad

If you are Team Eric I think you'll be happy with how things turn out unlike me who roots for Sam. I think Ms Harris built Eric up from nothing so she could flesh out his chsracter and make him all important to Sookie - he will be her HEA much as it pains me to see it. I'd love to know why women swoon over Eric though - maybe it's because I'm not into guys but I don't understand the female adoration out there but to me he has been a nasty piece of work since he was first introduced to us.
