We are still allowing folks to express their interest in the book; be sure to send me your full address if you are selected (via PM is preferable for your privacy sake).
I appreciate all of the interest in this book.
I appreciate all of the interest in this book.

I am a fairly new member to the Goodreads site, and to the History Book Club. I enjoy reading history, and am currently going through A Patriot's History of the United States: From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror with my son, who is reading it as a part of a class. It has been a good general review for me, and has reignited an interest in several related topics. My "to read" list is getting longer.

Hi Craig, you are getting much better with citations but you left out the author's link.
Please edit 66 for practice; it should look like this:
by
Howard Zinn
Bookcover first, then the author's photo if available and it was and then the author's link which is the part that is missing. The citation should be in that order.

Frustrating isn't it. Did you get my invite; if you accept it you should be able to use that. Also, are you getting the PMs that I am sending you.
If you want to post it quickly here; I will copy it and then delete the post right away. But I also need your first and last name.

OK folks I want to be fair to everyone and I just want to post the folks who were in good standing after Elizabeth the Queen and I was very lenient about what I termed participation.
Here is the list in good standing and below the list which was not:
The following folks have participated on the discussion threads: (thank you - so far this has been a great book and a great discussion)
1. Jill
2. Bryan
3. Bentley
4. Barbara
5. Cheryl
6. Emily
7. Becky
8. Debra
9. Geevee
10.Toni
11.Virginia
12.Mark
13.Stacy
14.Sera
15.Karolyn
16.K.P.
17.Jason
18.Teri
19.Lynne
20.Carol
21.Lisa
22.T.J.
23.Lewis
Only heard from these folks who wanted to get the book - nothing after:
1.Matt
2.Neil
3.Jessica
4.Rick
5..Lori Foote
8.Vincent
9..Dan Fulghum
10.Lavender
11.Anne
12.Tyler
13Alva
14.Chase
Just as an FYI:
If you are in the bottom list, could you send me a PM explaining why you should be sent a second book when you did not even participate at all or post even one post. I know that there are extenuating circumstances and I am all for giving second chances and even third chances; but we do have a lot of new folks who are interested and did not get a chance last time.
If I do not hear from you and there are other folks either in good standing or new and want a chance to get a copy of this book, I am going to err on the side of the new folks.

Words Inscribed on the World War II Memorial
Joseph E. Persico served as a commissioner on the American Battle Monuments Commission during the period in which the Commission built the World War II Memorial in Washington.
Engraved on the walls of the Memorial are eighteen quotations from World War II leaders and two others written by Mr. Persico. His include the announcement stone at the memorial’s entrance reading:
“Here in the presence of Washington and Lincoln, one the eighteenth century father and the other the nineteenth century preserver of our nation, we honor those twentieth century Americans who took up the struggle during the second world war and made the sacrifices to perpetuate the gift our forefathers entrusted to us, a nation conceived in liberty and justice.

Persico also wrote the inscription on the field of gold stars which represents the 400,000 Americans who died in the country’s service during World War II. It reads:
“Here we mark the price of freedom.”

Duane, we need for you to forward me your full name and address via PM. And we need to know that you would follow all of the T&Cs. Read the book, post avidly in the discussion here with us and with the author, ask the author a question or two on the author thread which we will set up and at the end write a review and post it here on the HBC.
Regarding Selection Process:
No more submissions will be entertained for the free book offer. We will complete the selection process in the next couple of days and will keep you posted. Just because you submitted your name and your address does not mean you have been selected.

Facts we can share:
The list of folks who will receive the free book will be posted in a couple of days (List has not been finalized)
When we have a ship date we will also let you know.
If you do not receive a free book, you can pre order the book on Amazon and from other on line book sellers. You can pick it up at your local book store on May 29th. Or if you prefer to download it; you can pre order a Kindle copy. In time, I am sure that libraries will carry this book if you care to wait.

I am sorry Matt; please see messages 98 and 99. The book will be released prior to the discussion so you can pre order it for your Kindle if you have one, from Amazon or other on line book sellers or pick it up at your local book store on May 29th but we have too many requests for the allotment of books given to us.

All, the selection process was completed last night. I will post the criteria we used so that if you did not get a book this time, you can increase the odds of getting one next time. However, remember that even though you may have not gotten a free book this time, you can still participate in the discussion June 4th because you can pre-order the book now and receive it on time from on line booksellers like Amazon. There is even a pre-order on a Kindle download available and of course you can simply walk into your local bookstore and get a copy on May 29th. One thing that I can share is that the deadlines and procedures needed to be followed to be included in the names to be selected. Happy Reading.
