I am delighted to see the enthusiasm and commitment, I look forward to discussing the book with all of you!
Thank you, Bentley. I'm very excited about reading and discussing this book with the group. I'll probably need some guidance on how to find the discussion threads.
Thanks! This is my lucky day for free books. I had this one surprisingly sent to me at the school I teach at with one copy for me and one copy for a student who had entered an essay contest on Abraham Lincoln. (my student didn't win the contest but was an honorable mention and the essay folks at Gilder Lehrman sent book prizes to the two of us for his entry.)

They will all be in this folder Cynthia so bookmark this area. And you will find them.
We look forward to your moderating this book for the group and I think you have a good group to read the book with.

Well that is your lucky day isn't it. (smile)

We look forward to all of you taking part and being part of the community formed for this book's discussion.
Sure G that always helps. I think I will set up a pre-read discussion thread where all of the community members can say hello to each other and chat about the Second World War and FDR and maybe ask questions of each other.

As some of you may know by participating in previous book discussions through this club (or at least by exploring our discussion boards) a moderated book discussion such as this one will have a glossary thread that we add to throughout the course of the discussion. It may contain things like biographical info on some of the key individuals in the book, further background on specific battles, organizations, etc. We'll build it as we go, and it will be there for anyone interested to consult, find out more, or explore additional information related to what we are reading. It is intended to be a companion resource to the book discussion, but certainly folks can do other research on their own. Just an FYI for those who may have not participated in a moderated read with our group previously.
Yes, Alisa the glossary will be a valuable source of information as you read along. I will set up a pre-discussion chat thread here in this folder so that folks can at the very least introduce themselves to each other and chat.

Update: Received some information that the release date may be revised; not sure what affect that will have on when the books are sent. Keep you posted.
Hi BentleyI asm interested and agree to the terms & conditions - & if any are left would certainly like the book for free
I will send you my address by seperate message
Thanks
Vince
I would love to have the chance to read this book and participate in the discussions with the group and author. If possible, I would love the chance to recieve the book.
Vince and T.D. - sorry but the offer is closed and the list selected.
You both can still participate and pre order the book on line (hard copy or Kindle download) and/or pick it up at your local bookstore when it is released which will be prior to our book discussion date.

Sir, I would love to read this book. I am very interested in the workings of the Presidency during WWII. I am a Navy officer and I have been involved in all conflicts since the Gulf War. Military history and our leadership is a favorite. Thanks.

Jack, thank you for your service in the armed forces; this book should be right up your alley. I am sorry that we already completed the selection process for this book and the list has already been submitted. See message 106. Again thank you so much for protecting our country.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL RECIPIENTS OF FREE BOOK OFFER - ROOSEVELT'S CENTURIONS
We have been advised by Random House that the sale date for Roosevelt's Centurions is being pushed out until the Fall. That means that the books will not be released to us until sometime before that date which is yet to be determined. We will do this book in the Fall and the same list of 33 folks will get the book then. I know you are disappointed and so are we; but look at the bright side - you are all going to still get the book.
Additionally, RH is offering another book for the June 4th discussion. Right now it looks like the book will be the following:

I will set up a new thread for the 33 folks who were supposed to get Roosevelt's Centurions this month to have the right of first refusal for the alternate book now offered for the June 4th read. The same terms and conditions apply because this is also a tremendous offering but we want a lively and animated discussion. If you cannot commit to this book for the June 4th discussion kick off date, then allow someone else who is extremely interested to get this offering in your spot: you will still get the Persico book and be able to participate in that discussion as agreed.
Sometime in the Fall or before, you will be sent the Persico book so do not worry. You will always be getting the book you signed up for. We will let you know on this thread when we have additional information.
I know you are disappointed with the delay; so are we.

Wow, two free (and interesting) books for the price of none! I'll wait until Bentley sets up the new thread to officially post my interest, but I'm not disappointed at all with this update.
Actually, I'll take this opportunity to update my FDR/Battle leaders reading to prepare for the fall! So please share my slot with someone who has a greater interest in the FBI. Thanks!
Hi Bentley,WW II is not my strong interest so I think I will pass on this one in order to free a book for someone who would do better than I. I appreciate you keeping me in mind & look forward to reading the forum posts.
Thank you Brian but you were not on the confirmed list for Roosevelt's Centurions. But maybe you did not know that we already went through the selection process on that book.
Thank you, Bentley and Alisa, for making these books and discussions possible for us to participate in. I am interested in both books and agreeing to your terms of participation. Looking forward to being involved in reading and discussing both books. Many thanks to you.Lewis C.
Thank you, Bentley. I am interested in receiving both books as well, and I agree to the terms and conditions for both.
I am under order to buy from Amazon. About a week and a half ago, I got a message from Amazon that there would be a delay in delivery, which obviously didn't surprise me. Today, I have an email from Amazon saying that it will be delivered some time this week. What have you heard?
Really, that is amazing if that is the case. The Amazon site now says the following:
Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available. (in Red) and on the publishing date it says May 6, 2014 (lol). So maybe they made an error.
Let me know if you get the book.

The book publishing date is May 29, 2012, and the Kindle publishing date says May 6, 2014. In the past Amazon has set the date ahead for Kindle editions when they are uncertain of the date it will be available.
Actually Cynthia, the 2014 date was on the book page. At least the one that I saw. But I think it is a moot point. Virginia, if you get the book let us know.

From what I have just heard because I passed on your comment - there is no firm date whatsoever. So I will be interested to hear what book you get this week.

If this is a list of those who are getting the free book from the publisher, then fine; I'm not on that. But I am joining the discussion with my own book, when it gets here. In spite of the notice I told you about, I have not received either the book or another notice of delivery yet. Interesting situation.
