Jess | 3721 comments I know that this is such a hard question to pose. But thinking about it, I think I will always love Sherrilyn Kenyon the most. I've read a lot of PNR books, but she is the author that basically introduced me to the genre. I feel like every book in her dark hunter series is always intriguing and different from the one before it and yet they are still linked. I definitely like other authors but she is my favorite.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Of all the romance I have read, plenty in the last couple years since its pretty much all I read now=), the most memorable for me has been Sherrilyn Kenyon. I can still remember reading her in the BAD series and wanting to get my hands on more. Then I got the Dark Hunter series and never looked back. I have tried some of the other popular authors/series but none have grabbed me right out of the gate like Kenyon. It is hard to argue she's not great with the way the series has gone on.

B | 82 comments First one that comes to mind is Kelley Armstrong. Love the writing, love the characters. I'm all caught up on the Otherworld series, waiting for Frostbitten. I just started the Nadia Stafford series, too (Exit Strategy).

As I'm writing this, though, I'm thinking of a few others. I'm tired, so we'll just leave it as Armstrong for now. :)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I have a lot of fav's but I think that I am going to have to go with Charlaine Harris. Before I read her Sookie Stackhouse books, I wasn't into pnr or urban fantasy at all! Growing up, I loved to read but hated fantasy and sci-fi. If it couldn't really happen in the world, I didn't want to read it! Anyways, I did eventually read the Harry Potter and Twilight, but I still wasn't into any other fantasy. My sister-in-law told me that I should read Sookie Stackhouse, and I've been hooked ever since! Right now, probably 90% of the books that I am reading fall under either PNR or UF. So, I have to go with Charlaine Harris!

message 5: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Charlaine's definitely on my top fav's list!

message 6: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I love Charlaine Harris as well. I think that she has such a skill to create these worlds that people can get sucked into. Her books are those that if I'm reading and someone snaps their fingers in front of my face, I probably wouldn't bat an eyelash!

I've been exploring other writers as I wait for my favorites to come out with their new releases, some of them:
Carrie Vaughn (Kitty Norville is the main character and she is a werewolf)
Mary Janice Davidson and her undead series
J.D. Robb and her In death series. Which is growing on me and more and more, but as I stated in another thread I'm not sure if she can really be considered Urban Fantasy.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Well originally The Twilight series by Meyers was what introduced me into the world of Paranormal fiction but the Anita Blake series is what got me hooked so I'll have to go with LKH for one of my top faves.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Favorites for PnR...Larissa Ione, Lara Adrian, and Kelley Armstrong.

Then my eyes cross 'cause it's tough to know what's UF...Charlaine Harris (Harper Conolly), Ilone Andrews (Kate Daniels), Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress). *sigh*

message 9: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments ooo I love Jeaniene Frost!! I still have to get my hands on the Kate Daniels series. I'm looking through my libraries to see if they have them because I was unable to find them in the bookstore

message 10: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 208 comments Yasmine Galenorn is my fav because she is the only author that has a written a series where I like to read and reread every book in it. Other authors I like like Kim Harrison, Carrie Vaughn, and Kelley Armstrong I really like their series as a whole but I prefer to reread some books in their series more than others. In Galenorn's Sisters of the Moon/Otherworld series I usually reread the whole series rather than jumping around in it like I do the other authors.

message 11: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Joe - I haven't read anything by Yasmine, but I will look into her!! Thanks for the new name!

message 12: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex I think Anya Bast and her elemental witches series is my favorite.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments If we're talking strictly PNR - and most of my favorites authors probably fall more into the UF category - I'm going with J.R. Ward (although she's moving towards UF). After I got my friend hooked on the Twilight saga, she introduced me to PNR and started me off with Night Pleasures by Kenyon and Ward's Dark Lover. I read Kenyon first and wasn't sure (it still doesn't rank high on my list of favorite DH books) and then I tried Ward. I was immediately sucked into the world she created for the Brothers and promptly went out and bought the rest of the series. They became only the second series of books that I'd ever read multiple times. I absolutely adore them. Ward, thus far, can do no wrong in my eyes. And while I love Kenyon and her Dark Hunters, I'm not sure I like where the series is going anymore.

message 14: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (craftymommy) | 23 comments That's too hard. How about a 3-way tie? ;p My favorites are Nalini Singh, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Larissa Ione. I love Singh's writing style. She weaves a fantastic story. Kenyon's Dark Hunter world is amazing. And Ione's books are Hot and Sexy.

message 15: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I'm utterly obsessed with Kenyon's Dark Hunters. What draws me to it is the detail and the depth of the mythology behind it. Kenyon's world-building feels just as important, and often way more important, than her HEAs. I guess since I read more sexy urban fantasy than true PNR, I appreciate how Kenyon's series gets both my hormones raging and my mind ticking. I love speculating about where the overall storyline is going just as much as I love drooling over the manly men! Plus, it inspires me to investigate all the myths I've forgotten over time.

message 16: by ♥Tricia♥ (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 132 comments Mine is Kenyon because there is so much detail in her stories that the HEA becomes a side thing. At least that's how I feel about it.

message 17: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Totally agree, Tricia.

message 18: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Gosh which one::can't pick one:: so lets see::Kenyon because i love all that greek,Roman, and hot guy stuff::the Warden (JR Ward) cos i love bad-ass guys as well:: and the Phoenix cos shes got vamps and an angel :)::

message 19: by Patti (new)

Patti I have LOTS of favs (Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, Carrie Vaughn, etc) but I have to say if you haven't read Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series, you are SO missing out! David is soooo hot, and the story line is superb, unlike a lot of the PNRs out there...

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments That's good to hear, Patti, as I'm due to start that one soon for the UF group read. Just need to finish up with The Nymphos of Rocky Flats first.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) DarkH- How are you liking Nymphos? I abandoned it after several pages . It just wasn't hitting the right cords .

message 22: by Patti (last edited Apr 08, 2009 04:55PM) (new)

Patti Yes DarkHeart, I'd like to know what you thought of Nymphos as well...I've been dying to read the series (sounds kinda fun!), but I've read mixed reviews..

message 23: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I have to say I really like Joanne in the Weather Warden series and who knew there were so many books because Ill Wind felt like a stand alone.

message 24: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments While she is not my favorite author I must admit that I consistently find her books entertaining is Gena Showalter.

I agree. How much better could it get?

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Jael wrote: "DarkH- How are you liking Nymphos? I abandoned it after several pages . It just wasn't hitting the right cords ."

LOL, I had no problem putting it aside to read Wicked Lovely. However, I hate abandoning books, so I picked it back up last night. I'm a little over half way through now. It's not that it's bad, I just don't think it's my thing. I'm going to try and finish it up today though and then move to one of the books on my list that people have been raving about. =)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) LOL I hear you. I hate abandoning books as well but man that book was tedious. I just couldn't do. BTW loved WL a very good book.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooo, a three way tie between Larissa Ione, Nalini Singh and JR Ward. Although Lynn Viehl is contending very strongly at the moment as well. Jeaniene Frost is great, but I'm wondering how much more she can add to the Cat-Bones relationship. Frankly, it's Bones' studliness that keeps me going, so if that disappears I'll probably lose interest.

message 29: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Moss, Jeaniene has one more Cat and Bones book this year, and after that will be SPADE's book, which I'm quite looking forward to.

I wonder if giving the other vampires' stories is going to be a new trend, or if she just felt compelled to do Spade and he'll be the only break from C & B. Anyone know?

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Spade? Qui est? I don't remember him.

message 31: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments One of Bone's oldest friends.

Bones and Spade were made into vampires by Ian. They were all together in Australia in natural life.

At least I think that back story is right.

I can't think of a specific scene to help jog the old memory...

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I read this on Frost's web site. She has a contract with her publisher to do the Night Huntress series through at least book 7. Then, in addition to that, she also signed a contract for two stand alone books that will be in the Night Huntress universe, Spade's book being the first of those.

message 33: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Thanks, Nichole!

message 34: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I kind of feel like the Cat and Bones thing is wrapped up but this last book I feel like she has made some interesting story lines.

message 35: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Just read a post from Jeaniene on Barnes & Noble and she says if she gets her way, Ian, Annette, and Vlad will get their own books too.

Though Ian's story would certainly be interesting, I loved Vlad in At Grave's End-I want to know more about him!

message 36: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Oh and my favorite PNR writers: established writer would be Sherrilyn Kenyon and up and coming writer would be Larrisa Ione .

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Michelle M. wrote: "Though Ian's story would certainly be interesting, I loved Vlad in At Grave's End-I want to know more about him!"

Vlad was the best part of that book, in my opinion. I would love to see more of him. Usually when authors introduce characters that are already established outside of their world, as Vlad/Dracula is, it turns out cheesy but she did a great job with him.

message 38: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Nichole, I wholeheartedly concur. And for someone she just introduced, I definitely took to him. Well-known and arrogant, but she gave him nice depth in such a short amount of time.

Dawn: I think there's still a lot she could explore, if she's willing to go more deeply into the vampire world. And if more agents go the way of Tate, she can work it into more. Did she tell us what the next book is about? Must google...

message 39: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments For PNR, I also enjoy Lynsay Sands. I like the comic relief.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Ahh yes, Spade. I don't remember the aroma of yummy coming off him...probably wasn't paying attention due to Bones being in the room, and my drool problem. I'll look forward to his book.

Vlad, I do remember. He was kinda fun, yeah. Oooh 7 books, that is SO cool. More Bones!

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Moss wrote: "Ahh yes, Spade. I don't remember the aroma of yummy coming off him...probably wasn't paying attention due to Bones being in the room, and my drool problem. I'll look forward to his book."

Moss, I suggest you wipe up the drool and clear out your sinuses because Spade definitely has some yummy. It does get overshadowed by Bones' sheer magnitude of greatness, but it's totally there.

message 42: by Jess (last edited Apr 17, 2009 08:45AM) (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I am excited for the new series, but I'm looking forward to a new Cat and Bones book. While I thought the last one was amazing because of the plot line and how Cat and Bones are really finally together.. I missed their interactions and hot sex scenes lol!!!

There was definitely not enough of that going on. It was more about their love and such.

Maybe the next book wont be as deep and dark. I hope.

message 43: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Lol

What Moss means is screw love, we want more sex.

How shallow of us.
Tee hee.

And yes, Spade's got some yummy.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Michelle M. wrote: "Lol

Damn right! I was expecting another scorching chapter with Bones breaking out some more of his "skills". But alas... ;) Still an awesome book though!

message 45: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Well she's got sex in Spade's book. She said so on twitter!

Ha.

That was exactly what I meant.

message 47: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I really liked the last book too in the second one it kind of felt like bones was a tool and in the third we totally saw all of his power. Which is also cool that he would do all of that for Cat.

I just read the deleted scenes and I love the one about the blood diamond.

Also I don't think there is a blurb yet about Destined For An Early Grave.

Good Point I guess I felt like at the end of At Graves End they were ready to walk off into the sunset.

Oh and I love how she kicked the other vamps a$$ when Bones was missing

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish JR Ward is my favorite!
