Oohhh, I really might have to pick Eragon up soon!

I've usually only ever had two with another being picked up when my interest was lost. I seem to have a short attention span after a week, which is why I've always been used to reading lots of series and a couple of books at once.

I'll be interested to hear what you think to that then, Gavin!

Ohhh, I can't wait to start Everneath. To be truthful, I might start it tonight and brush aside Mansfield Park. I've been on a little bit of a young-adult fantasy kick as of late! I get into certain reading moods and it's hard to rattle it out of me. haha.

Matt Hageman The Eragon series is a great read!

I've finally finished Eldest (Inheritance, #2) by Christopher Paolini . It seems like it took me forever. Eragon's chapters were so boring in this book up until near the end that reading it became a slog.

Also recently finished Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard . Not what I was expecting but still great fun. Jaine was the most abrasive heroine I've ever read but you still could not help but like her.

And Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead . The Vampire Academy series is great and it's getting better by the book!. I can't wait to read the next installment.

Now reading Infinite Days (Vampire Queen, #1) by Rebecca Maizel . I love the concept behind this one and it's been good so far. Though it does have a few minor irritations.

I'm also getting ready to read the group book The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss soon. It's meant to be really good.

Matt Hageman Hey guys, so this might be the wrong place to put this, and Olivia go ahead and delete this if it is. But i'm hosting a giveaway on my blog of the YA book Crashing Eden. I want you guys to enter because I don't have much traffic, so you have a good chance at winning. The giveaway is international, and you can find it at http://www.geniusbookreviews.wordpres...

Sorry if I am not supposed to put this up here, and i'll delete it if you want me too.

message 105: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll let this one slide, Matt, since I have the book to read, it looks fabulous and I can see you need the attention. But I'll set up a "blogging" section so you and anybody else can post to their hearts content their after. BUT, feel free to leave this post here! :D

I've finished Wake (Dream Catcher, #1) by Lisa McMann Fade (Dream Catcher, #2) by Lisa McMann Gone (Dream Catcher, #3) by Lisa McMann The whole series was a colossal disappointment. Mostly because of the non-plot and the weird writing style.

Also finished Frankenstein (Penguin Classics) by Mary Shelley . This was nothing like any of the movies, they really butchered the plot. It was a sad tale of misunderstandings and loneliness. I'm doing quite well with the classics lately:).

Also squeezed in a few romance books Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning both of which were good fun reads. Kyrian from Night Pleasures was a really great hero.

Now I'm reading Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson by Brandon Sanderson. It's early yet but I'm already loving it!.

I agree with you on the Wake series. I thought it would be good when I bought the first book, but it just got worse as it went. You are completely right, there was not plot to it at all. I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

I thought the second book was the best one. It at least had a little direction with the assignment to expose the teachers. It also had the big revelation of the side effects of the dreams. It was a big fail in regards to the characters though as the longer the series went the more I disliked everybody, especially Janie's love interest!. Cable was beyond useless.

I've read a ton of YA books with rubbish heroes of late!.

The characters were definitely not well developed at all. I had higher hopes for this series and I was let down.

And I've read some that have really great characters, such as in the Vampire Academy series. But I've also read some with not so great characters suck as this series. I find it's hit and miss. But I've read enough good series that I'm not reading to just give up on them yet.

Don't worry I have no plans to abandon the whole YA genre just yet.

I'm halfway through the Vampire Academy series and love it!. It's up there with The Hunger Games as my favorite YA series.

I've even liked some of the books with poor male lead characters that I've read of late. Everneath and Infinite Days were two such books and I'll definitely be continuing with both series!.

I have trouble stopping a series once I start it, so even if I didn't really like the first few. It bothers me not knowing how it ends of feeling like I've left something unfinished lol

Hey guys.

I've just finished Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon too. Both I really enjoyed and whilst Infinity is a spin-off YA from Kenyon I found the two series can stand alone and interlink and it wasn't too redunant or boring for a spin-off.

And I just fell in love with Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder and realised that I gave it 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much. I finally got around to reading this after it was a group pick ages ago and so glad I got to read it. I think you should all read it if you haven't because there are so many elements to it that get drawn in and make it more complex. I heard it was originally meant to be an adult book and I think I would have enjoyed it even more if they'd published it that way.

Olivia, I'm glad to see you enjoyed reading Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder . Are you planning to read the next two books in the series anytime soon?.

I've been reading The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa this month:

The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa Winter's Passage (Iron Fey, #1.5) by Julie Kagawa The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey, #2) by Julie Kagawa The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey, #3) by Julie Kagawa Summer's Crossing (Iron Fey, #3.5) by Julie Kagawa The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa Iron's Prophecy (The Iron Fey, #4.5) by Julie Kagawa

Four books and three novellas. They were really good. The main character Meghan was likable and really grew over the course of the series. I love books about the Fey and this did not disappoint with great interpretations of all the characters you would expect, plus tons that were all Kagawa's own.

Now I'll just have to wait patiently for
The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey Call of the Forgotten, #1) by Julie Kagawa to be released on audio!.

Now I'm reading Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4) by Richelle Mead . Loved the first three books in the series so I'm hoping for more of the same.

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

Hopefully I'll be reading the next two in the Poison Study series soon now that I'm back from holiday.

Well you certainly ploughed your way through the Iron Fey series didn't you!!

And more VA, I need to start that series ASAP!

message 117: by Gavin (new)

Gavin | 108 comments Mod
I did! Iron Fey was just that good.

You should because VA is a good series. Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4) by Richelle Mead was a little disappointing though. It had a very slow start but did make up for it a little by having a good ending.

Just finished Ex-Heroes (Ex-Heroes, #1) by Peter Clines . It was good. A weird blend of superheroes and zombies, but it worked.

Now reading Legion by Brandon Sanderson . I just wish this was a full book rather than a tiny little novella.

I've re-read a couple of old favorites recently:
Night Whispers (Second Opportunities #3) by Judith McNaught and The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch both were fantastic but I already knew that:).

Also squeezed in a novella by another of my favorite authors The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson by Brandon Sanderson. Very enjoyable even if it was a little short!.

Also read The Queen's Army (Lunar Chronicles, #1.5) by Marissa Meyer . It's a tiny 36 page novella in Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series. It was good and has really left me looking forward to the release of Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer

Now I'm reading Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9) by J.R. Ward . This is another great entry in an absolutely fantastic series.

It is a really great book. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!.

I'm reading Envy (The Fallen Angels, #3) by J.R. Ward . After finishing and loving Lover Unleashed I'm in the mood for even more J.R. Ward.

Also reading Knights of Dark Renown by David Gemmell . I love David Gemmell and while this was a difficult audiobook to acquire, I'm sure it will be worth the effort!.

I've read a whole bunch of great books this month.

First was my re-read of Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard, #2) by Scott Lynch . The second book in Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastards series. The whole series is fantastic and I highly recommend reading it. Red Seas is just as good as the first book. We still have the fantastic witty banter of the characters, the elaborate cons, and the complex plot but this time we also get Locke and Jean trying their hands at being pirates!.

Next I read a short YA book A Need So Beautiful (A Need So Beautiful, #1) by Suzanne Young . This was pretty good. Not perfect but good. It was a sad sort of book about a girl who feels compelled to help people for a reasons she does not understand. I loved the fact that her help did not come without consequences. Also the whole concept of the Forgotten was very interesting.

Next I read modern sci-fi classic Replay by Ken Grimwood by Ken Grimwood. I love time travel books and this did not disappoint. It's about a guy who dies at 43 and then wakes up back when he is 18. He lives his life over again and then dies at 43 and wakes up at 18 again, and again. Well you get the point. This was a well done character driven novel as the main character gets to change the decisions he makes in every new life and is also completely unaware why such a thing is happening to him. It was an interesting read which could have been a lot better if it was not for the disappointing end.

Of course I squeezed in the group read Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor . Which is a beautifully written five star book!. If you have not read it you are missing out.

Now to round out the year I'm reading another book in the BDB series Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward . I love the author and the series so I'm expecting to really enjoy this.

Have you guys been reading anything good?.

Heather B (heatherbenson) I'm about half way through The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.

I had to take a break from reading last semester, so it's nice to have the time to read a little again.

I'm really really enjoying the book so far. I can't remember the last time I read a book with so much detail. The author clearly put a lot of thought into weaving this tale. I love the mystery and the character development. Can't wait to finish it.

Heather wrote: "Is anyone else's to be read pile growing way faster than you are able to read through it?"

Yes! I think I add three books to my to-read pile for every one I read. Still, better to have too much books than not enough.

message 125: by Heather B (new)

Heather B (heatherbenson) I completely agree. My wallet on the other hand doesn't agree with me at all. It's in pain every time I leave the book store.

LOL. We can agree on that. Buying new books should not be so much fun!.

Matt Hageman Hey guys, I had to write a short story for English. I put it up on goodreads and wonder if you guys have any comments on how to make it better. Thanks!

Only 2500 words so pretty short.

Dissolution

I just finished Dissolution last night and it got better and better until the surprise ending. At first I didn't like it as I was grossed out and wondered if I was going to be able to finish it but I am glad I did. I am now reading The Poisoner's Handbook which is fascinating. Flavia De Luce would like it.

The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York

Flavia de Luce 3-Book Bundle: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag, A Red Herring Without Mustard
