Stefanie (xlivngdeadgirlx) | 8 comments Hi all! So, I'm in need of a new series to read and I need your help! I'm sick to death of vampires and werewolves. I've read the blackdagger brotherhood, anita blake, mercy thompson, gardella vampire chronicles, etc.

I'm looking for something different. I've read merry gentry, the fever series and I just finished the hunger games series which I LOVED! If anyone has any good suggestions along these lines, i'd really appreciate the help! An 8 hour work day feels like 15 hours without a good book! Thanks :)

message 2: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (geakristh) Have you tried Kim Harrison's Hollows Series?

message 3: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Long | 2 comments its actually a teen series and there are like 40 books but its the fearless series. francine pascal is the author. they are pretty good.

message 4: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (geakristh) You could also try Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series and Kalayna Price's Alex Craft series.

Diana | 2 comments Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series is amazing.

Sofia Grey (goddess_of_cat_summoning) | 36 comments Have you read Trish McCallans Forged in Fire? It's slightly paranormal (psychics) and is the first in what will be a new series? It's pretty damn fine :-) (check my review). Or Laura Kaye's North of Need was brilliant - and is the first in a new series. (Yummy Snow God brought to life). Again, check out my review :-)

Failing that, how about a complete change of genre? Suzanne Brockmann's HOT Navy Seals, or some historicals perhaps :-)

message 7: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (xlivngdeadgirlx) | 8 comments I think I'm going to give the Kate Daniels ones a try! Thanks :)

message 8: by Diana (new)

Diana | 2 comments I do not think you will be disappointed. They are really good. Need some more recommends, give me a shout I have lots.

message 9: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (xlivngdeadgirlx) | 8 comments Thanks Diana!

message 10: by Coffeentea (new)

Coffeentea | 1 comments Try the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. This series has all myriads of paranormal beings, such as vampires, werewolves, Valkyries, phantom, demons, sorcessors, fey, witches, and fury. It is very well written and the overall story arc is compelling. Start with A Hunger Like No Other. This series is on my auto buy list.

message 11: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (xlivngdeadgirlx) | 8 comments I read the first couple of the immortals after dark, but couldn't get passed the winters night one

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) I really liked Christine Feehan's Ghostwalkers series. http://www.goodreads.com/series/41874...

message 13: by Christal (new)

Christal | 79 comments Maybe try the Jane True series. The main character is a selkie.
Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler Tracking the Tempest (Jane True, #2) by Nicole Peeler Tempest's Legacy (Jane True, #3) by Nicole Peeler Eye of the Tempest (Jane True, #4) by Nicole Peeler Tempest’s Fury (Jane True, #5) by Nicole Peeler

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2569 comments I've moved this over to the recommendations thread.

The Jane True sereis is really amazing.

I would also recommed Kindling the Moon (Arcadia Bell, #1) by Jenn Bennett it's a really unique take on demons.

If you want something a little darker for demon try out The Devil Inside (Morgan Kingsley, #1) by Jenna Black

message 15: by Meghan (new)

Meghan Doidge | 84 comments I am also a fan of the Kate Daniels' series.

And I suggest Kelley Armstrong Otherworld series (though some of the books do have werewolves in them). I like her adult and YA books.

message 16: by Kayla (new)

Kayla scheffers | 11 comments I suggest the Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter or the Alien huntress series by her.

message 17: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) have you tried Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

message 18: by Priscilla (last edited Apr 18, 2012 02:38AM) (new)

Priscilla (ppomeroy72) | 364 comments The Atlantis series by Gena Showalter is a great series. I would recommend it. One book revolves around vampires, but most of the books do not. There are dragons, nymphs, and Amazonians.

Heart of the Dragon (Atlantis, #1) by Gena Showalter Jewel of Atlantis (Atlantis, #2) by Gena Showalter The Nymph King (Atlantis, #3) by Gena Showalter The Vampire's Bride (Atlantis, #4) by Gena Showalter The Amazon's Curse (Atlantis, #5) by Gena Showalter

Tasula | 14 comments Here are some suggestions for NON VAMP/WERE books (although I bet you might have missed some of the lesser known but FABULOUS vamp/were books like Anno Dracula (Kim Newman), The Last Werewolf (Glen Duncan), Already Dead (Charlie Huston) all of which are better written and more memorable than most of the formulaic vamp/were books on the market.
Here are different books you might try:

Black, Jenna The Devil Inside demon
Carey, Mike The Devil You Know demon
Connolly, Harry Child of Fire demon
Rowland, Diana Mark of the Demon demon
Hearne, Kevin Hounded Druid, gods
Bell, Alex The Ninth Circle fantasy
Green, Simon R Something from the Nightside
Hanover, MLN Unclean Spirits

Williams, Liz The Snake Agent
McGuire, Seanan Rosemary and Rue
Richardson, Kat Greywalker
Saintcrow Lilith Working for the Devil
Weldon, Phaedra Wraith
Troop Alan The Dragon delaSangre

Amy_Read to My Heart's Content (readtomyhearts) | 7 comments Robert J. Cranehas some great books out right now. He has two series: one is The Sanctuary series and he has two novels out in it, Defender and Avenger, and two novellas too. It's about guilds that go out and look for adventure. It is a fantasy novel with elves, trolls, wizards, knights, druids, etc. It is very exciting and has a sprinkling of romance here and there. It also has some major humor in it too.
The second series he has out is: The Girl in the Box : with Alone being the first book.
Alone (The Girl in the Box, Book 1) by Robert J. Crane

This book is super awesome. It has a female heroine in it who is a very kick butt kind of girl. If I had to compare it to something; maybe like X Men but a lot darker.
I hope you find something you like, and they are no vamps or weres in these.

A new series that is quite different is the Telepathic Clans Saga. The first book, The Succubus Gift is out in most eBook stores, and the next two books in the series will be released this summer. Yo can read an excerpt on Amazon or my web site for free to see if you like the flavor.

message 22: by Jax (new)

Jax Stefanie, are you specifically looking for urban fantasy/preternaturals or are you open to alternatives?

I found the following fantasy series to be thoroughly enjoyable! (none of them are of the epic variety)

Dawn Cook (aka Kim Harrison) -
Truth series Bk1 -First Truth.
(PLEASE don't let the covers of these put you off! They suck! and look NOTHING like how the author describes her!)

Michelle Sagara West - Chronicles of Elantra
Its a fantastic world! and the characters are great, plus with the number of new races introduced its refreshing after all the vamps!!

Of course, if you're look Urban/preternatural, then you could try Richelle Mead - Her Dark Swan series was pretty good! (FEY), Rachel Caine - Weather Wardens..
In the slightly more YA genre: Jenna Black's Faeriewalker series,or her new series Descendant
or Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series...

The Kate Daniels Series is EXCELLENT!!!
Of Course, there's also Karen Chance - Cassandra Palmer - it does have vamps in it, but the focus is more on the magics and mages!!

Hanne | 38 comments If you want something really different try Unholy Ghosts - very dark and gritty. Wonderful world building and nothing like anything else I have read. The series gets better and better.

Kate Daniels is a good pick though. Definitely my top series together with the Fever series.

message 27: by Hanne (new)

Hanne | 38 comments Oh, and Kate Daniels also just gets better and better. Just in case you feel a tad bit unsure as you are reading book 1. Book 4 and 5 were amazing.

Faith's Temptation
This angel/demon world K. A. M’Lady has made is very addictive and is a great start to a great series.
Steph - Bitten By Books ~ 4 1/2 Tombstones

Glow - Book 1 ~ A Faith Savage Demon Huntress Novel
I loved this story and I definitely want more.
Steph - Bitten By Books - 4 Tombstones

Fear No Evil - Book 2 ~ A Faith Savage Demon Huntress Novel
I am chilled by just the idea of seeing demons, let alone being dragged to Hell. There are many stories about
demon possession, but the thought of being controlled by something that frightening is terrible. The visual
descriptions of what the demon did to the possessed lady brought back memories of the movie, The Exorcist.

Scary, suspenseful, exciting...
I read all the Faith Savage stories at once and I'm so glad I did. If I'd had to wait to read the next one in
the series, I don't know what I would have done. Faith is feisty, strong, vulnerable as she fights the forces
of Hell. Lots of demon action in the stories, lots of scary stuff, and some hot sex. If you like supernatural
thrillers, you'll love the Faith Savage stories. And who knew angels and demons were so sexy?

Author, Cara Marsi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the beginning God created the Heavens, the Earth…and Angels. No one is certain when the war started – when
the Angels went astray. All that is clear is that war erupted in Heaven and the Angels fell from Grace. Today
that war continues.

My name is Faith Savage, and I hunt demons. Some say that God has a master plan for all of us – from an Angel’s
first breath to mankind’s final death. Somewhere in between lays the battle for salvation.

Do You Need Something To Believe In?

Lisa (lisamessegee) For something different, try the Sentinel Wars series by Shannon K Butcher. It starts with Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher

message 36: by Susana (new)

Susana (susana32) | 153 comments Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, is an amazing series. I also like her "Edge" series. At the moment one of my favorite series is "October Daye" by Seanan Mcguire. The first is called "Rosemary and rue". This one is more focused on the fae. "Summer Tree" the first book of Fionavar Tapestry, by Guy Gavriel Kay is also a great book. It's a mixture of contemporary with fantasy.

message 37: by Karen (new)
