Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I fell asleep but then woke up & couldn't go back. I'm all caught on Twitter (I've been following all the Big Brother tweets. I'm addicted to that show). I'm also trying to decide what to read next.

I really need to finish the book ... not to say it was 'boring' but the philosophical stuff just kept going and going and I was waiting for something to happen - I will definitely finish it, so many people have said amazing things about it.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Hi fivesunflowers. You're in SF? So, you're awake too!

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 15 comments I am! At work, actually - otherwise I would be somewhere underneath my covers. :)

Yes, I read it but a looong time ago...maybe in my teens (that's why I don't have it my shelves.) I should probably read it again but I don't remember how it ends. But I remember liking it even if it's REALLY creepy - and this guy becomes a serial murderer.

message 3706: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh gosh that turtleneck!

message 3707: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Mmm, Stacia those pictures just hit all my buttons. ;) thanks for posting. LOL.

message 3708: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The night of no sleep -- me too! Really sucks. Luckily I am working from home. I am wearing my work out clothes and will jump on the treadmill soon.

My husband is at the park (1/2 a block a way) with the kids! He walked there (on crutches), I am so excited for him and us! Definite improvement.

Stacia, I haven't read that book. Sorry.

message 3709: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Stacia ~ mistress of mediocrity wrote: "I didn't think of that. Yeah, if a yellow turtleneck is what the "dangerous" twin is wearing, I'd hate to see what the "good" twin is wearing."

My first thought was that he was HER twin and thus forbidden. But I guess Silhouette doesn't roll that way.

message 3710: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL, that is Game of Thrones, right? :)

message 3711: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Well "Coming Soon" let's you know that there isn't a lot of angst, right? Haha, so if you want BUSINESS right away, then this is for you. :)

message 3712: by Leea (last edited Jul 27, 2012 08:31AM) (new)

Leea Happy Friday Everyone! It's out last weekend of freedom, school starts Monday - Yikes!

Those are just funny!!

Yay!! Regina, he's taking the kids to the park. How exciting.

My MIL is here with our niece and we're taking the kids to this sand bottom swimming area today. It's not going to be too hot so I hope they have fun!

I'm still working my way through Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane , up to chapter 5 and I hope to read a little at the park/pool.

message 3713: by Annette (new)

Annette "Coming Soon" must be a very short erotica.

message 3714: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "Well "Coming Soon" let's you know that there isn't a lot of angst, right? Haha, so if you want BUSINESS right away, then this is for you. :)"

LOL! I'd say though that I prefer "Coming Soon" than the guy in the turtleneck.

message 3715: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Regina, I did notice that the language is weird. It's tough right now to follow Terrible and Bump when they talk.

I'm on chapter 3 Leea, but I'll be reading here in a moment as soon as I can at work.

message 3716: by Pat (new)

Pat Going to have to restart reading this one! Flame Of Resistance by Tracy Groot And this time take notes! All the characters are getting garbled with their alias names...perhaps after Olympics are over and I'm not so distracted! :D

message 3717: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I promise you Unholy Ghosts readers that it is so worth it to push through. I hope it works out for both of you!

Hahaa DG. :) Quick business v. yellow turtlneck .. hmmmmm???

message 3718: by D.G. (new)

D.G. HAHAHAHAHA!!

If it fit the bingo shelf this week, I'll read Unholy Ghosts too.

message 3719: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm curious to see if you'll like this one...

message 3720: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am guessing no - but I could be wrong. I think Chess will drive her crazy. :)

message 3721: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I like the author so I want to give it a try. :)

message 3722: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I like the Author too, which is why I chose it over the others.

Regina, I was thinking Chess will drive her crazy too.

message 3723: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I remember that Georgina did, well Georgina had it together 10X over Chess, lol!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) When do you think you'd read it, D.G.? Maybe if someone else reads it, I will give the book another shot.

message 3725: by D.G. (new)

D.G. It depends on this week's Bingo Shelf...if it fits, then maybe I'll start it on Saturday...if not, then maybe middle of next week?

message 3726: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I hope it works for you. I do think it is a rewarding series. :) It will be fun to watch though!

message 3727: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahahaha, yeah. I'm only about 7 chapters in and I can already see how much of a mess Chess is.

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments I've read romance since I was 11 or 12... my mother had a friend who stocked books at drug stores and she was supposed to tear the covers off the "surplus" books and throw them into the dumpster. My mother convinced her to give the books to her instead. Some of them were fiction or memoirs or whatever was on the bestsellers list. But a good deal were romance and I hoarded them. This is how I got copies of my first romance novels that i would read over and over again. This was my first romance novel. The Pirate and the Pagan by Virginia Henley My mother hated romance novels and though it was terrible and hilarious that i read them. She would make fun of me and would read the sex scenes out loud and ask me if I knew what "thrust" and "penetrate" meant. Of course, I didn't. I just knew that it was love. She used to call me her smutty girl. :)

I think that I equated reading romance with embarrassment and a little bit of shame because of the ripped off covers and my mother's teasing. I don't have any friends in "real life" that actually read the romance genre - other then the book that shall not be named - I think that when I discovered this site, i felt so excited at the thought of meeting other "smutty girls" and making friends and talking about books...

I'm not really sure what the point of all this is. I guess reading is such a big part of who I am and sometimes it feels like nobody reads anymore or they say they do but only because they WANT to define themselves as a reader. It's nice to be part of a community.

message 3729: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Aww...Ali! I don't have any real life friends who love reading like me either. Especially romance novels. I'm glad you found us. Goodreads is so fun and I've found such nice people who share the same interests.

I'm LOL'ing @ your mother asking you if you knew what "thrust" and "penetrate" meant. We all have some smutty traits in all of us here ;)

OT....I'm streaming the Olympic Opening Ceremony. I'm loving the different eras that has been shown. Especially some that reminded me of the historical romance novels that I love so much!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) D.G. ~Captain Hussy~ wrote: "It depends on this week's Bingo Shelf...if it fits, then maybe I'll start it on Saturday...if not, then maybe middle of next week?"

I have stuff I have to get finished over the weekend because it's the end of the month but if you do it next week, I'd consider joining you.

message 3731: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh man! The Olympics Opening ceremony! They'll probably show it tonight on TV so I'll watch it then.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Regina wrote: "LOL, that is Game of Thrones, right? :)"

LOL Why, yes. Yes it is. :)

message 3733: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Okay, so I think I'm just an Adult UF kinda girl because I'm really liking Unholy Ghosts. I had the same thing happen with Kate Daniels. Everyone said that the first book was weak but I really liked it. I actually think that the worldbuilding, characters, and visuals in Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews and Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane are both better than Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning .

Fever overall is my favorite UF, but I think these two have stronger starts. The world is just so crazy unique in both of them.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Happy Friday ladies! I am about done with Cut & Run (Cut & Run #1) by Abigail Roux . I am in love with this book. For those of you ladies that love m/m this is a must read. Big time swoon!!!

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Just finished this. Stiff The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach

I read it a few years ago after my Mother in law, who is a scrub nurse, told me in horrid detail what they do to donor cadavers. It was so disturbing, I almost removed my donor sticker.

This time I listened to the audiobook, so that I could work on projects around the house while I listened. I loved it more as an audiobook then I did actually reading it.

I think I want to donate my body to a forensic body farm

message 3736: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) My sister wants to do that too. It weirds me out, but I can see why she thinks it would be cool.

Wendy I so agree with you. I loved the first one of both Kate Daniels and Unholy Ghosts, I just know many people need to push through. If you are liking the freaky Downside world you are in for a great ride! I love Kane's imagination. She created such an amazing world.

message 3738: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Ditto to watch Regina said. You all are lucky to be reading Downside for the first time.

message 3739: by Leea (new)

Leea Courtney is read Unholy Ghosts too. If we get D.G, that makes 4 :)

I didn't get a chance to read but a chapter today. There's always tomorrow. I'm afraid I wond be done in time to buddy read another book on Sunday. Yikes!

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I'm watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and it is so boring. Someone please kill me now.

message 3741: by Leea (new)

Leea What? I keep hearing they're amazing. I love the Olympics, I just uploaded Reuters app so I can get the images on the go.

message 3742: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Leea - Don't worry, I'm reading pretty slow, too. I just read 1 chapter today, so I'm on Chapter 6 atm.

message 3743: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Not sure who you've been talking to Leea. The ceremony is boring.

message 3744: by Leea (new)

Leea Hahaha! I'm just a sap for the old red, white and blue...

message 3745: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I'm patriotic and all that but this is painful.

message 3746: by Leea (new)

Leea Fast forward it... I don't watch that stuff unless it's recorded and I can fast forward it.

message 3747: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Lesson learned. I will keep that in mind for next time.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Marcella wrote: "I'm watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and it is so boring. Someone please kill me now."

We had it playing in the background while we were doing other stuff and it was horrible. Worst opening ceremonies ever.

Finished Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick and the book was a trip. The ending was unexpected and I'm still not sure how I'm feeling about it. It was an interesting read though...

message 3749: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Marcella wrote: "Not sure who you've been talking to Leea. The ceremony is boring."

It was boring and ALL over the place. It needed BIG explanations by the announcers of everything that was occurring. I told my husband that the guy who came up with that (who's supposedly a movie director) cannot be a good storyteller because when you have a BILLION people tuning in, you're supposed to put together a story that people can enjoy without a running commentary. And the business of the healthcare? WTH?

message 3750: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea, I'm already half way through it. I doubt I'll get much reading today though. I don't usually get to read a lot on the weekends.
