Leea Wendy, we starting Troubleshooter #6 today?

Stacia, I think you're given KA enough tries so you shouldn't feel bad at all. I just enjoy her books because they are light and easy to read with 2 kids going crazy in the background.

It's funny but I only used to read non-romance books before I started coming to GR and now most of my books have some romance.

I'm still reading Sunset Embrace (Coleman Family Saga #1) by Sandra Brown and i'm really enjoying it. Some of the wording is dated 'womenhood' and others but it's this slow build that's really nice to read. Also, the authors descriptions of simple intimate daily duties. Like nursing a baby in bed while the man is beside you. It seems so innocent but it's so intimate and theres that level of trust.

I think i'm having nostalgic nursing memories, like I miss doing it. All these memories are flooding back to me. I know it's crazy!!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yeah! I'll be starting tonight. I have about 25% of Ready Player One left, so I'll finish that today.

message 2953: by Leea (new)

Leea Yay!! I'll start tonight too!

If anyone wants to join us for our buddy read of Troubleshooters #6, Alyssa and Sams book. Well be discussing it in the Troubleshooter thread:

Regina (reginar) I'll of course be there to discuss. :)

message 2955: by Gwennie (new)

Leea Same here :)

message 2957: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Leea wrote: "Always buy the one you want. You'll just regret it later and be thinking about that bag anyways. Well that's what happens to me. Mainly with purses. "

I think that's what I'll end up doing. I just hope the sale is still on by the time I go to the store on Monday! I could still order it online but there's a store in 5th Ave. close to my work so I can check it out in person there. If I'm going to spend over $400 in a suitcase (yes, that's on sale) I better look at it first!

message 2958: by Leea (new)

Leea Good for you! I always like to look at whatever i'm going to buy first before taking the plunge. Well, I bet it's a great bad that you'll have for a long time :) It's an investment.

I don't travel much anymore so I have this suitcase that's a monster (enough for my and the boys clothes) but it's nice, swiss army and red so I can find it in the sea of black.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Regina wrote: "I have loved the last several BDB books -- there were some flaws, but I loved them and cannot wait for the next one. :D

Stacia I think that sounds like a good idea, if KA isn't for you, she isn't..."

Okay this is funny but I have something I want to respond to about each of your comments.

About BDB - I know I've said this before in the group but I'm one of the rare people who thinks the series has gotten better and better with time. I love how intertwined everyone is now. Each book feels like a continuation of the last, whereas the first few books read like standalones (with brief cameos).

About KA. I guess I don't get it. I like hot guys as much as the next person but I need more than a sexy man who can growl orders at the female lead and come up with a few heart stopping sentences in order for me to feel like I've read a great story. If I just want an alpha fix, I can go pick up a random pnr book and at least get some cool powers or special effects to entertain me in between sex scenes. Maybe if her books were shorter, I'd consider reading them as fun or fluff reads but it takes forever to get through a book because they're massive in content. Fluff to me is quick, light and breezy. I may or may not be done but I'm definitely on a break for now.

About Kiss Off - I'm hoping it gets better because that cover might not save it.

About Curse Workers - I wouldn't have minded a fourth book but at least it was wrapped up in a halfway decent manner. Glad to see that it got stronger for you instead of weaker!

About And Then There Were None - I loved that book back in high school. I recently re-read it and the book didn't hold up the second time but maybe that's because I knew the mystery. It was entertaining to read as it was unfolding and I didn't know what was going on.

If you have any sort of interest in the book, check out the T.V. show Harper's Island (it's streaming on Netflix if you have it). The show takes place on an island where the wedding party and guests of the main couple start dying off one at a time. You know there's a killer in the group but have to figure it out because they don't tell you. It's a fun and creepy show. My entire family (well not the little one of course) loved it.

Regina (reginar) Stacia thank you for the clue in about the show on netflix! I think my husband may like that one (he isn't a fan of SOA unfortunately).

I am with you Stacia, I agree that the BDB books have gotten stronger in my opinion, for all the reasons you said. She is moving beyond heas and i really like that.

The ending of Black Heart was perfect. (view spoiler)

As for KA, I think for me that was it too. I do long strong men both physically and of spirit, but I just didn't click with the series. Leea knew I wouldnt before I started though. :)

Yayayaya Wendy!! I loved that book! I am glad you did too! I would love another one in that world.

I know what you mean Leea. Haha. Donati's Dawn on the Distant Shore had that same effect on me - -she wrote about the babies' hands on her breast and the eye contact while she nursed -- and then the pain when she was separated from them. It was so real for me.

Have fun Wendy!!

Soccer start tomorrow for both boys. Jim coaching our youngest and we're bringing snack. Then we're heading to Sacramento (1 hr away) for BBQ at Grandmas and before that i'm seeing Magic Mike with my sister laws.

I'm excited to go to the movies by myself. Yay!

message 2976: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Sounds great Wendy! IT is really hot and humid here in the Chicago area, I hope it is okay where you are.

Leea -- I love being dropped in the middle of the action!! Sounds like a fun day for today, hope it is a good one. What movie are you going to see?

I am trying to make up for lost work and once again -- I find myself at the end of the month entering my time and running to catch up work due to everything that interferred in my life this month.

We finished GoT last night. I enjoyed it, the things that are different from the books - I don't enjoy. But I still really liked it. I also watched the first episode of True Blood and wasn't thrilled. I understand why they are deviating from the books, but I think I may cancel HBO -- keeping it for True Blood is not worth it I don't think.

About my husband, no things are worse. Yesterday was really hard -- we got the full diagnosis. He ripped his lcl off the bone entirely (if a ligament is injured it is usually the acl or pcl -- and it is bruised or torn in the middle, but not my luis). Apparently this is the only knee injury that can't be left alone and requires immediate surgery. Also, most surgeons refuse to do this surgery and the top ones only see this injury maybe 5-10X a year. It typically happens after car accidents, falling from buildings, or very strong impact sport injuries (his). Our surgeon is the team surgeon for the White Sox and the Bulls -- so he does this one semi-regularly. So they will repair the other 2 torn ligaments at the same time too. (donor ligaments are used!) If it were just those two (the acl and pcl) he could wait and would be fine now. Many people and athletes are able to go on and live their lives without repairing these two. But it isn't just those two, of course he had to injure the dire one. We have an amazing surgeon and we feel confident in his hands, so that is good. Surgery is scheduled for 7/9/12. My sister in law is coming on 7/7.

I am listening to The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart and reading Tell The Wolves I'm Home A Novel by Carol Rifka Brunt . I am not sure why, but I am not feeling Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5) by Stacia Kane -- I think it is like Wendy with Blackout, my personal life is interferring with my enjoyment. I am hoping the Bingo shelf announcement in a few hours allows me to read Whispers Under Ground (Peter Grant #3) by Ben Aaronovitch

Leea Regina, I'm going to see Magic Mike with my 3 sister in laws while our husbands see Lincoln vamp hunter. Lol!

I'm so sorry about Luis knee, sounds like he's going to be in good hands. At least your SIL can help with the kids while he has surgery. What's his recovery? Will he be able to play soccer/ run again?

Funny story: I got my husband this pocket knife ( more like a long blade) for fathers day. He went running on the levee by our house. He runs past the park and sees a bird tangled in a mesh bag, like the one you get apples/ oranges in. He traps his fathers day gift, handy pocket knife and cut the bird free. He did get all cut on his forearm when the bird got free. He comes home and tells me about it, he's so proud he saved that bird. Haha!

How did you end up liking Night Circus? I read the first half and put it down to finish up something that was on a deadline and never went back to the book, even though I thought it was interesting and dark.

Let me know how Bridgertons is. I promised Kay that I would start that one soon.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm sorry, Regina, about your husband. That just sucks.

I'm on Ch 19 of Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5) by Stacia Kane . I am so frustrated with Chess in this story. I understand why this girl makes bad choices but at some point we need to see some change in this character. I just need to finish this book to find out what happens.

Jom & Julie...enjoy those Julia Quinn books! She's one of my fave HR authors. Stacia, I hope you get to it soon.

Leea...enjoy Magic Mike!! I'll be watching it next friday.

Leea Magic Mike was so bad ladies... I mean I knew the acting was going to be bad but even the stripping was awkward. Let's just say... (spoilers about the movie) (view spoiler)

I just finished Gone Too Far (Troubleshooters, #6) by Suzanne Brockmann and it was another great book in the series. I'm working on writing my review right now and I have tons of quotes.

I'm going to start Tatiana and Alexander (Tatiana and Alexander, #2) by Paullina Simons as a reread with Carina. I love this series, it's one of favorites of all time and I cannot wait to reread it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Storm (Elementals, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer (not liking the crappy/cheesy U.S. cover, hah) and loved it! This was SUCH a breath of fresh air. Even though there was a love triangle, I didn't care because the story was so much fun and the main love interest guy was so appealing. As far as I can tell, she picked who she wanted at the end of the book, so let's hope the series moves on from that.

Starting Always a Bridesmaid by Cindi Myers for a readalong.

message 2994: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea, I couldn't find an HR that interested me so I ended up reading Willow Springs (Destiny, #5) by Toni Blake which was disappointing and horrible.

I'm now reading a British YA Adorkable by Sarra Manning which I am really enjoying.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) One of my friends really liked that book. I have yet to read a Manning. I had meant to get to Unsticky but kept putting it aside for other stuff.

I loved Unsticky and You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, her few adult novels. These are british chick lit so if you're not into that, you may not like it.

Adorkable is really enjoyable right now. I stayed up so late reading b/c I couldn't put it down. It makes me want to find all her other YAs.

message 2997: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm almost done with Wild Oats by Pamela Morsi , a really different historical romance. The book is set in Oklahoma at the beginning of the 20th century, the hero is an undertaker and the heroine is a "scandalous" divorcee.

And the plot is really good too. It deals with being true to ourselves, doing what we believe in even if we are 'breaking the rules' and it has an interesting part about parents letting go of their kids when they grow up.

Really good stuff.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Hello ladies! I finished reading Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) by E.L. James over the weekend. I love me some Christian Grey. I will say this though...I can't stand Ana!!!! She is annoying as hell and so adolescent. Is it bad that I want to punch out a character?

I am now reading the final book in the trilogy Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades, #3) by E.L. James . She's pissing me off in this one too.

I hope to God that the author decides to write a book about Jason Taylor because he is oh so dreamy.

I'm not a big fan of chick lit in general but I'm willing to check it out. A friend of mine who knows me pretty well said she thought I'd like her books.

Finished Always a Bridesmaid by Cindi Myers and it was basic fluff. Nothing out of the ordinary.
