Regina (reginar) I can't look at it either since I am at work. Maybe I will look at it on my Kindle Fire! :D

So Harris has now ticked me off again (if you have seen my status update), I am not sure if I should dnf this book or keep going. Her statement was pretty gross and I can't tell if it is meant to be that way and then disproved later on. Lily Bard (the first person pov of the book) actually says that it isn't a surprise that so and so is murdered b/c she was the town slut. Then she goes on to ponder that women who sleep around are putting themselvevs in line to be abused and murdered. This has to be a statement that will be contradicted right?

Major Crush on Matthew McConaughey... saw him at at UT game and wow!

Isn't it funny that obsessive fandom causes us to react like that? I can think of dozens of examples in my life where I changed my mind about something b/c of how many people were obsessed.

I read all the time before kids but then after I had them I could hardly stay awake to read anything. I used to read lots of Historical, Fiction and Non-fiction books. I guess, the twilight series was easy to read and captured and held my interest. I had never ever thought to read a Romance book before. Just in the last few years, because of GR did I even start reading HR/PNR/UF.

That's how I now feel with the fifty shades books. It's just going to drive me nuts till all these ladies are done with them. haha!

D.G. Regina wrote: "Then she goes on to ponder that women who sleep around are putting themselvevs in line to be abused and murdered. "

That doesn't sound good. But maybe she means women that are having one night stands with dudes they don't know put themselves in danger? Although maybe that's a myth because when somebody gets killed, we know to always look for people close to them, not a random stranger.

message 1807: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Me too about never thinking to read a romance. And it is so much fun! I still remember how powerfully Outlander rocked my world. I still laugh when I think I didn't know it was going to be a romance. I don't know if I can come clean to many of my friends and work colleagues, they don't know b/c they still have that wall up about what type of books are better.

I have several neighbors though who like urban fantasy and one who likes romance, so I can share my books with them. One of them outted my blog at a recent block party get together and they kept repeating the name of the blog and saying -- what? THIS is the name? LOL, I was blushing and sweating. Then they all said they were going to read it the next day -- and that is the day we featured our favorite sex scenes. So now I am officially OUTTED.

message 1808: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I can't talk smack about Twilight b/c it got me into reading again. I was a big reader when I was in middle school. I would take the bus weekly to a used book store in Berkeley just so I can buy YA books for 25 cents. But high school & life swayed me away from books for too long.

After Twilight, I also searched for similar books and found a forum that suggested BDB. Then that really changed everything and led to buy a Nook, then join goodreads which resulted in me meeting all you ladies.

I'll still be a fan of Twilight but now, I know that it is not the best YA out there.

oh...I have to add that I LOVE ME SOME CHANNING TATUM!!

message 1809: by Leea (new)

Leea Hahahaha!! That's funny! I try to keep my smut love a secret except from my best buddy, we share our smut love & books :)

Having a reader has saved me so much embarrassment from those cheesy romance covers. Those dang BDB books would always get me in trouble. LOL!

Outlander Rocked my world too! Then I was hooked and haven't stopped.

message 1810: by Leea (new)

Leea I love that Twilight got a few of us back into reading or reading a different genre. We've just all found much better books since them :)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments That is funny, REgina!! hahah...I'm also thankful for my reader. There are just too many embarrassing covers out there.

She really actually said that it shouldn't be a surprise that she was murdered, it was bound to happen since she slept around - -and it is a small town so I am guessing they know each other. Then she went on to ponder that a promiscuous woman by nature is more at risk. And the title is "Shakespeare's Trollop."

message 1814: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Agreed about the ereaders and the covers.

Kay, I love the image of you on a bus going to used book stores as a kid. It just seems so sweet. :)

message 1815: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciareadsitall) I haven't read Twilight or many other ya books for that matter. I have tended to steer clear of the whole genre for some unknown reason. But, after having read these posts about how much you all seem to enjoy it, I may have to rethink my genre choices. If I really don't want to read Twilight because, as many of you have said, there are better books out there; then where should I start in the ya genre? Ease me in gently. I'm not sure about the whole fantasy thing with vampires or whatever, but Hey, trying something new never hurt anyone. Thanks.

message 1816: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) So its been a while since I really enjoyed a good HR series. But I'm almost finished the MacKenzie brother books by Jennifer Ashley and have found them hugely enjoyable, if anyone is looking for that kind of a read.

Regina (reginar) Tricia wrote: "I haven't read Twilight or many other ya books for that matter. I have tended to steer clear of the whole genre for some unknown reason. But, after having read these posts about how much you all se..."

So some good YA books? Romance based? Without going in to any fantasy elements, these are good:

Here are some I enjoyed:

Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma The Boyfriend List 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver (Ruby Oliver, #1) by E. Lockhart

Not romance based but I really liked:
What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein Under the Mesquite by Guadalupe Garcia McCall The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

I have others that are fantasy/sci fi/apocalypse/dystopia. And I know many people on this list have ones they would recommend - -much more than me.

message 1818: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So I am dnfing the Harris book. I have heard from several readers that Harris doesn't back down from that sentiment and I just don't want to read that point of view. So I am now listening to:

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

message 1819: by D.G. (new)

D.G. So I go to lunch and I miss all this good convos! :)

Romance and mysteries were my first love and I still read them today. But there was a time in my early 20s when I didn't read as much (I had a full time job and was going to college full time). When I moved to the US, that changed though. I was in awe, in AWE that I could go to the library and take the book home with me (in the DR, we don't have many libraries and the ones we have, you can't take the book out.)

But at that time I used to read more contemporary Harlequins (you know, the ones like Blaze and Desire, LOL!). I still remember the time I picked up my first HR at the library. I've never read a romance that long but I thought I should give it a try (it was Romancing Mister Bridgerton) and then I was hooked! I don't think I've read a category after that.

I got into different genres once I joined GR and PBS.

message 1820: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG, my husband said the same thing about librarires here. He still thinks I am being greedy when I bring home 20 things. We live next door to the library, so it is very easy to grab stuff and bring it home. Right now his parents are staying with me and I often wonder what they think with the constant parade of books in and out. And for them, they struggle to be able to afford books. I remember when I lived in Italy and when I lived in Mexico, books (I was buying books in English so this may be the issue, I am guessing they were imported thus taxed differently) but the books were so expensive. He wants to buy Hunger Games in spanish for his mom and it is out of stock everywhere right now. He was stressed that he couldnt' give it to her -- so I pointed out that Book Depositry delivers free to anyplace in the world! She can get it for less from BD than a store in Mexico. But they couldn't order on their own since they don't have credit cards (or internet in their house). Anyway, I do remind myself how blessed and lucky I am in this regard. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

message 1821: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Fallen from Grace and loved it. Leea, are you done yet?

Seeing the cover of Perfect Chemistry makes me want to re-read or listen to the book. Alex Fuentes was on my mind for weeks after I finished it.

regina, I think that's cool that your husband wants to buy HG in Spanish for his mom. It reminds how I use to search for Harry Potter books in Chinese for my grandmother before she passed. She was a huge HP fan at the age of 86!

message 1822: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh man that is beautiful Kay!

Hmmm, listening to PC does sound nice (and I remember how DG raved about the narration).

message 1823: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments yeah, that was the reason I listened to it after she mentioned it. Alex Fuentes sounded sexy!!

message 1824: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) OH, I didn't know you listened too!

message 1825: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Yes! I did. Even though I have personal issues with audio books as it is, I decided to listen to it since I read the book already and it was nice to revisit the characters :)

Thanks, it was good. :) I just got the book you read. I had the feeling it might have some drama but I'll probably still check it out.

Finished
The Breakaway by Michelle Davidson Argyle and it was okay. Not the best I've read with the subject but it was a quick and easy read.

I'm about half way through (view spoiler)

My husband is working really late, again so i'll have more time to read later. The book is just okay right now, I hope it picks up.

message 1829: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea, I am sorry it isn't clicking with you. I think if it is just okay for you at that point, then it isn't your thing. I was already loving it by then.

message 1830: by Leea (new)

Leea I want to finish it, Something just doesn't seem right to me. I just can't put my figure on it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Why did I get the sudden urge to say, "needs more cowbell?"

Ignore me. I'm still in weird mode.

I love 'more cowbell'

message 1833: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Hahahah @ Stacia.

Well, Leea, I didn't like the beginning how they were so easily falling in "love" with one another. Later, I still didn't fully believe their love throughout the book but it was Ryan's past that really grabbed me. Keep reading....I hope it gets better for you.

message 1834: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I loved their romance and that it was based on their friendship and connection and not just physical appearance. (no matter how unbelievable that is in reality)

message 1835: by Leea (new)

Leea I felt like they didn't really know each other at that point. I'm enjoying Ryans past and seeing where that will lead.

I agree with you Regina, I enjoy it more when a romance is build on a mutual friendship and connection of the minds not just the bodies :)

I'm now in turmoil. Turnes out

Motorcycle Man (Dream Man, #4) by Kristen Ashley was released today. It'a about Tack and he's got this SoA, hot motorcycle biker hot vibe.

Anyone know of any smashwords coupon codes?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) One sec, I'll check.

message 1837: by Leea (new)

Leea Thanks sweetie!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You know, I might have been thinking of Fictionwise codes not Smashwords. Those are the ones that list by date.

Either way, I'm not seeing anything up at the usual places/groups.

My baby woke me up around 2am bc he's been sick lately. I couldn't fall back asleep. So, I finished the book and I loved it. I couldn't help but to think about how I was like in high school. In some ways, Ruby Oliver had her sh*t together more than I did even tho she doesn't think so. I'll probably start book #2 soon....but I must shut my eyes for a bit before I have to wake up in 1 1/2 hours.
