Leea Yeah, I was thinking the same thing? She may just not be the writer for you. Although, I really want to read her Burg Series

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It's one of those things where I see so many rave reviews and wonder what I'm missing. Although, both of the books I've read by her have mixed reviews. Knight is one that even some of her die hard fans don't like and the first Colorado Mountain was one of her first books, so I've heard that it is one of her weaker offerings.

I'll probably try one, maybe two more books by her and if it doesn't click, I'm done. That's probably more than I've given any other author. Usually one book (maybe two) is my limit. I just want to see if there's some reason for the hype.

Then again, a lot of people who do have her so highly rated have way more 5 star ratings than I would usually give out to books, so I'm thinking that maybe they're just generous overall with how they see books and I'm much more stingy.

message 953: by Leea (new)

Leea You just know what you like... Nothing wrong with that IMO.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I think I'm becoming jaded. There's the same few people who get excited over everything. There is no way that every single book you read is that good!

I don't trust anyone to recommend books to me if they love everything they read, the same way I don't trust anyone who has something negative to say about the majority of what they read.

message 955: by Leea (new)

Leea I remember those days when I loved every book... haha! I am jaded. It comes with age :)

message 956: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) You know what I find sad? I am not into urban fantasy anymore (except for my favorite series). My experience with Shadow Reader confirmed that.

message 957: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 24, 2012 03:10PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I think it also naturally happens somewhat the more books you read.

The more you read, the more it happens that books start tending to blend in with all the others if there's nothing exceptionally new or different about the story. When a rare gem comes along, you want to reward it with a place of honor above the other books.

I've spent some time over the past couple of months re-rating books after realizing that some of them didn't hold up with time.

message 958: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am not sure if it is b/c I am done with the genre with the exception of my favorites where I am invested in the characters or because I have exhausted all the good stuff. But it sucks, whatever the reason. Or maybe it goes up and down, maybe I will come back to it. I hope so, I had so much fun with it while it lasted. The last new UF series I liked was Georgina Kincaid -- and I hadn't liked anything new before that for awhile either.

K.. So I gave up on Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) by E.L. James .. felt like I was reading Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James all over again.. way too repetitive for me.. So I am now reading The Kingdom (Graveyard Queen #2) by Amanda Stevens which is book 2 of a series starting with The Restorer (Graveyard Queen #1) by Amanda Stevens ... I am in love with author.. she has mad talent..

message 960: by Leea (new)

Leea I just wanted to let everyone know that the Mods have been working for days trying to find the right picture for our new home page. Check it out and let us know what you think?

Yay!!

message 961: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I love it!!

message 962: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It did turn out really great!

message 963: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) Nice!

message 964: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments It's perfect. I love it!

message 965: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Wow, great job on the cover, mods! It looks a lot like Facebook in terms of layout now!

message 966: by Leea (new)

Leea It's GR design, we just needed to find the right picture. It does kind of look like Facebook.

message 967: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 24, 2012 10:50PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) The hardest part of finding that pic was probably the sizing issues, although Wendy was the one who managed to get it right for us in the end.

Finished Confessions of a Prairie Bitch How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated by Alison Arngrim and it was much funnier than I was expecting.

Still working on Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris and it's actually pretty darn good. I love that it's not a dystopia sci-fi at all (big surprise!). It's more about the possible end of the world happening in the near future. And the love story is so sweet.

Starting Love's Rhythm by Lexxie Couper which I think is rock star erotica.

I feel the same way. I have a friend who seems to mostly review books she gave 4 & 5 stars (I don't remember ever seeing a 2-star review and the 3 stars are rare.) And she writes really detailed reviews so I don't doubt that she genuinely likes those books that much but I definitely don't go out and get every book she recommends because I know our tastes don't match.

message 969: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I think I'm going to have to bail out of reading White Cat. Last night I finished Red Seas Under Red Skies and I'm exhausted. That book was so good but very intricate and I don't want to start comparing White Cat to this other book.

It's probably time for me to read some fiction. I think I'll start To Kill a Mockingbird.

message 970: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Okay -- are the rest of you still in for White Cat? No pressure!

I just won an audio book (it will come at audible) through a blog giveaway at http://audiobookreviewer.com/ -- any suggestions of what I should get?

message 972: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh -- yeah!

message 973: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm still in for White Cat, I just can't start till tomorrow because i'm about half way through Over the Edge (Troubleshooters, #3) by Suzanne Brockmann and loving it :)

D.G, To kill a mockingbird is one of my favorite books - enjoy!

message 974: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Tomorrow is perfect!! I need to plow through Harvest moon. I am not inspired.

message 975: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I will still read White Cat with you all. I'll start either today or tomorrow.

I finished reading Dreaming of You (Gamblers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas and loved it. Lisa Kleypas is awesome!

message 976: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just looked back at the posts and couldn't find them all -- Kay and Leea -- anyone else reading White Cat? Kay is it okay to wait for Leea? Tomorrow?

I just finished Breakfast at Tiffany's. It was so good, not the movie at all. It is very dark and shocking. I loved it, super quick read. I think that people who live in NYC would enjoy it. I am definitely reading other works by Truman Capote. I know that he was very unhappy with the movie. Now I understand why.

I am starting The Killing Moon (Dreamblood, #1) by N.K. Jemisin to read and still finishing the audios of The Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children, #1) by Jean M. Auel Harvest Moon (Virgin River, #15) by Robyn Carr

message 977: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I don't mind starting tomorrow.

Believe it or not, I never watched Breakfast at Tiffany's. I've only seen clips of the movie. The book sounds interesting.

I read Clan of the Cave Bear last year and enjoyed it. I liked how the author was able to convey a lot especially since there was hardly any dialogue. The only reason I haven't picked up the next one is b/c these books are so long in pages.

message 978: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Kay that is the exact reason I likely will not go on, I am enjoying it though, alot. A friend told me the rest are not that good.

I also have only seen snippets of the movie, but it always seemed so fun and lighthearted.

Cool, tomorrow then!

message 979: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I've read all of them except the final (which I bought but I'm dreading it because everyone says it's terrible). Books 1, 2 and 3 were great for me (with 1 being the absolute best). 4 and 5 were like all only regurgitated information from the other books, and like I said, I haven't read 6 yet.

message 980: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh, that is good to know! So if I do read on, I will go just to 3 and wait for your verdict on 6. ;)

message 981: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Someday, haha. 5 especially turned me off, so while I bought it in hardcover to round out my collection, I'm not in aaaaaany hurry to read it. Not with all these amazing books out there.

message 982: by Leea (new)

Leea I can start White Cat tonight... if you ladies want to :)

I just finished Over the Edge (Troubleshooters, #3) by Suzanne Brockmann . Love it! So much better than the first two and I can't wait to continue this series. Are they all this good? I secretly always wanted to be a bad ass FBI agent or something. haha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Regina wrote: "Oh -- yeah!"

I'm going to be buddy reading that with a friend soon. Maybe we'll end up reading it around the same time.

message 984: by Regina (last edited Apr 25, 2012 02:48PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Cool -- let me know when. I picked it for me win Stacia.

Leea, in my opinion they are all that good. With the exception of 2 that were not as strong (#5 and #14) Into the Night (Troubleshooters, #5) by Suzanne Brockmann Dark of Night (Troubleshooters, #14) by Suzanne Brockmann They are still good, but more of transitions and I didn't care for the couples as much.

message 985: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Now you understand my obsession! haha.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Wow, another long series!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh and Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris was pretty damn good. I loved, loved, loved that it's not dystopia. It's going to make my top sci-fi list for the year and the romance was so bittersweet but in a good way.

message 988: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm so excited! I'm glad there are so many of them because I'm hooked. Between Troubleshooters and Virgin River i'm going to be busy. There are perfect for in between heavier books.

I'm going to start White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black after dinner.

message 989: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I have that one stacia. It looks really interesting.

I won't be starting white cat until tomorrow morning. We have 3 games tonight!!

message 990: by Leea (new)

Leea Yikes... 3 games. Have fun :) We have a game tomorrow night, just one though.

Well I might just pick up Bring Me Home for Christmas (Virgin River, #16) by Robyn Carr and start White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black tomorrow with you all.

message 991: by D.G. (last edited Apr 25, 2012 05:27PM) (new)

D.G. I started To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and it's going really well (but I knew I was going to like it.) I also started Snow Blind (Monkeewrench, #4) by P.J. Tracy , a book from one of my favorite series.

I'm sad I'm not starting White Cat with you ladies but I really need a break from con men.

Maybe I'll start the first Troubleshooters book once I'm done with all the books I'm reading now.

message 992: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I know figured out why I always think the title of the book is Black Cat. It's because the author's last name is 'Black' and the 'white' doesn't stand up as much in the little covers!

(I've been making that mistake and it's driving me nuts.)

message 993: by Leea (new)

Leea I actually liked the first Troubleshooters book. I know others hated them but it's better than I imagined.

I do that all the time with book titles. I mix up the names or just make them up lol!

message 994: by Lori (new)

Lori Baldi I have lost touch with Brockman's books. I read her much earlier work and was a huge fan. I even met her a few years ago at a book signing. She's fun. I'll need to go back to get on the Troubleshooters series. I'm sure I've read some of them.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I still need to read her at some point.

Ursula, how did Voyager go for you?

Well Lori, Wendy and I are slowly going through them... We just finished Over the Edge (Troubleshooters, #3) by Suzanne Brockmann and will read the 4th book sometime in the near future. What book did you end on?

message 997: by Leea (new)

Leea I started White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black which I can already tell is a different YA, more dark and I like it. Not that far into it, page 30 so i'm still learning what a Curse worker is.

message 999: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am 17% in to White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black itis interesting but I am not hooked yet, although I see the potential. :)
