Regina (reginar) I know Pekin really well. I am from a small rural/factory town in the northwest part of Illinois (near Galena) and to travel to college and law school (University of Illinois -- Champaign/urbana) I had to drive through Peoria as there is only recently a highway that shoots all the way to the north.

Interesting about not going to the strip (I haven actually never been to Vegas), but I work blocks from Lake Michigan and rarely see it! LOL. I guess we all have our regional quirks as to pronunciation. :)

I can't pick a favorite book from this series. I just love everything Ty and Zane.

Regina (reginar) Oh no! What happened?

message 8255: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I know you are an attorney Regina but the ones I work with are royally pissing me off. They have absolutely no respect for what I have to do. I am a legal assistant for 6 attorneys...SIX!!!

I worked on a file for one attorney organizing it for her in preparation for a lien conference. Mind you this file has over 50 lien claimants. I spent several hours organizing it for her and she managed to f*ck it up in one day.

Now I have to re-organize it again.

On top of that I got a call this morning from a lien claimant on another case saying a different attorney asked her to contact me to find out whether or not we received the lien claimants information when she originally sent it. Hello....she was already working on the file why didn't she look for it herself? Sh*t like that is a waste of my time and takes me away from other important things I have to do. She is a part time attorney, which is her choice, and I am the one suffering because of it.

The icing in the cake is I can't say a damn thing to my boss because she will see is as a complaint and once again tell me to do my job with a smile on my face like she knows I can. True story...she told me this before.

Ugh! I am so pissed off right now.

Thanks for letting me rant. Rant complete...for now.

message 8259: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Thanks Kay! This has been a constant thing here where my sis and I have no voice. Most days I don't know whether to cry or scream.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I missed a lot of conversation today!

Sorry you're having a rough day Marcella. That sounds like a pain.

message 8261: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Thanks Stacia! It sure is, especially when you can't do a damn thing about it. I hate feeling like a door mat. It is really undeserved.

Leea Hope your day improves, Marcella.

I'm loving Parting Gifts, i'm almost done with it. Which is crazy because I cleaned the whole bottom floor and still managed this. haha! Must be a short book. Oh, i've also cried twice and I think it may just hormones.

Unfortunately there is a lot of favoritism in this office. My office manager and the managing partner are really close. They go out of town and all that jazz together. The office manager covers for her brother-in-law, who is the mail clerk and a total f*cktard (I came up with the nichname myself). So whenever something goes wrong, the finger is pointed at my sis or myself. We have been sabatoged more than once here.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments So after a four day sabbatical from life, I have read Kristen Ashley's Dream Man series, and I'm hooked. Totally love her.

I'm going to try someone else for now, though, because I'm exhausted and have proved to myself that I cannot read her books in moderation. Her books are for the weekends. LOL

I'm thinking of trying the new Maya Banks series, but we'll see. :)

message 8268: by Leea (new)

Leea Ooohhh let me know what you think of the new Banks series, I have my eyes on those but my friends are giving it mixed reviews.

I finished Parting Gifts by Lorraine Heath and it was so good. Made me cry and man I loved all the characters and it was refreshing to read a loving family setting.

Now i'm back to no knowing what to read next lol!

message 8269: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Marcella I hate environments like that and it makes it worse that you rely on them to live. :(

message 8270: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh I need to read Parting Gifts too!

I am enjoying Trespass by Meg Maguire -- you all know I am binging on Care McKenna/Meg Maguire books.

message 8271: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And to add Marcella -- not being appreciated is horrible. :(

message 8272: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I decided to read True by Erin McCarthy which I got from netgalley. I like the couple of books I read from the author's Fast Track series so I was curious to read this one since it's New Adult. The last few books I've read in this genre haven't blown me away...we shall see with this one.

message 8277: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Angie, are you talking about Maya Banks' "Breathless" series - starting with Rush (Breathless, #1) by Maya Banks and then to the just released Fever (Breathless, #2) by Maya Banks ? If so, yeah, mixed reviews... I loved the 1st book, but this latest one didn't quite do it for me. I find that with Maya B a lot - hit or miss. But that's me. Lots of folks love both books. And I'll finish the series with the last book coming out in August, I think.

Just finished Into the Night (Troubleshooters, #5) by Suzanne Brockmann - Troubleshooters 5. MAN! I was so angry with Sam! I know that many see this book as a pity party, and perhaps it is; but it spoke to me. When you're in a pity party, you live in your head. When you live in your head, you don't LIVE. And that's what this book was all about for me - people who had to learn to ASK, TAKE, and DO rather than living in their heads. And I was actually glad for Mary Lou's POV, because it's so easy to see Sam as the victim... to feel sorry for him and to see her as a tramp. But the truth is never so black-and-white. I was glad when the XO (Jazz) took Sam to task for being absent - with his daughter and with his wife. He didn't even try. (I know, Muldoon and his Star Wars mentality says "Try no. Do." That fits, too.)

ANYHOO... quite the book. It spoke to me. Is it my favorite of the series? No. But it spoke to me. And I actually liked that they were in San Diego and not half-way around the world for the whole book. Brought back memories of living in SD; love the place, the climate, the laid-back attitudes, and the people. Hated the taxes and the price of living.

Will be headed into Sam And Alyssa's book later today. And also diving back into Ty & Zane in their latest, Touch Geaux.

Wow! I thought everybody knew that! I've never been to Illinois and I pronounce it without the S.

I can understand making that mistake if you're a foreign person but if you've ever lived in America, you should know that!

It's like Des Moines. No S either! In either word!

Yes, I saw. I had a good team so I can't complain. It wasn't the most exciting of games but I actually read several books off the TBR so it wasn't so bad for me. :)

D.G. Regina - How much memory do you have your iPhone? My iPod is almost dead (I've brought it back to life a few times but it doesn't have more than a couple of weeks left I think) so I'll be getting an iPhone, that way I can combine two devices in one. (I have too many electronics on my purse!)

DG, I have 16GB. My firm buys the phone for us, so we dont' have a choice. My husband has an 8 GB and that is way too small. I haven't had any issues with 16Gb -- it is what I always have. I don't load movies on it though.

I just started reading her, Marcella. I've read five back to back...six as soon as I've finished this one. I don't think I'll be sleeping for weeks.

I am loving every minute of it so far! :)

I skimmed the first one, but it seemed a bit Stephanie Plum-ish to me. I like the drama more, I think.

LOL...yeah. That would be annoying. Luckily I haven't noticed it yet.

No, but I want to. Same with Pamela Clare. I want to read her contemps, as well. They rock historicals so much. I'm afraid their contemps won't measure up. They set the bar high for themselves. LOL

You need to read the Rock Chick series. It is not as dramatic as her other books but they are funny and the guys are HOT!!!! Like smoldering. I can't think of a word hotter than that, but if I could, that would be them.

message 8299: by Lori (last edited Apr 09, 2013 01:16PM) (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Read 1 of the KGI series and have the next one. But it wasn't great enough to compel me to read the next one. With the Troubleshooter series, I take my time, because I know there are 15 or so books... but I *will* read them. And I want to read them before that 2nd KGI book. Does that say something?

And while the 1st book in the Breathless series got me, it wasn't a FAVORITE book. But the 2nd one felt mostly dialed in or dialed down - take your pick.

Angie - Just have to ask, but what's the *big deal* with no more undercover for Ty & Zane? I mean, when's the last time they went undercover? I can't think of ONCE in this series, except when they weren't together. Ty's gone off and done stuff for Burns; but Burns said no more back in, what, book 5? And Zane hasn't done undercover since the Miami stuff. I know, technically, they were 'undercover' in the 1st book; but I don't count that. I realize they wouldn't want their names and faces to be known, but that's just being a fed. Am I forgetting undercover stuff?
