Have you seen the new covers for her books? It seems like erotica covers are now going towards the fifty shades look.

I hate DNFing a book if I already wasted 50% of my time. LOL Maybe you can just skim the rest.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I don't like when books start following a copy-cat trend, but I do appreciate that romance and erotica is not all naked guys or couples in an embarrassing embrace anymore.

My favorite covers always tend to lead more toward the YA side because adult books usually have that "hit you over the head with cheese" look to me.

I'm buddy reading it with Dee but she's around the same point I am too, so we've both been going slow. I feel like such a slog because I've been reading on it for almost a week now.

Regina (reginar) I don't like cheesy covers at all. They actually make me not want to read a book! I don't like Maya Banks' historical covers (although weirdly, I do like her contemporary erotica covers) or Shannon K. Butcher's covers at all. I have to admit, I don't like covers with near naked men on them - -and I get irritated if the men are over groomed. Maybe b/c I don't like overly groomed men! (e.g. they are completed waxed, yet they are soldiers or it is the zombie apocalypse - when do they hvae time to wax?)

Stacia, I'd DNF it -- and maybe skim the end or read spoilers. It isn't worth your time!

I do think it is smart, I have heard the theory (from DG) that is one of the reasons 50 did so well the cover had broader base appeal and at least for a time, was not obvious as to what was being read.

message 7806: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) But I do like the old tempted cover, I think it is beautiful: Tempted (Alex Kennedy, #1) by Megan Hart

I'm thankful I have a Nook b/c I'd die if people saw some of the covers of the books I read. I think the cheesy ones are usually the historical romances...some still have the bodice ripping look. LOL

message 7808: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I agree about Banks' historicals. Hahah...very cheesy!

DG's theory sounds about right. There's more appeal and you can also hide the fact that you are reading something erotic.

Wahooooo! Can I just say, love seeing anormal ebook price... unlike some other offers who charge $14.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I like that cover but Curran looks strange in the background. The mouth open thing is odd.

Oh, speaking of Banks, did I mention that I'd finished Highlander Most Wanted (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, #2) by Maya Banks ? Maybe not, since I finished it last night. I quite enjoyed the book.

message 7811: by Leea (new)

Leea The second book was my favorite, glad you liked it Stacia.

I'm a 50% into Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs and it's awesome!! Wish I could read faster but this stomach flu got us bad.

message 7812: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yay -- to both of you. ;)

message 7813: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Is Wendy liking it a lot too?

I loved Frost Burned! I loved the Adam povs!!

Stacia, Highlander Most Wanted really moved me. Not sure why, but I was affected emotionally by the heroine.

message 7814: by Leea (new)

Leea Adam's POV's are the best!!

I keep getting duplicates of books i'm reading... I have no clue how or why this is happening. I'm thinking it has something to do with my GR app on my phone.

I'm excited to see how Frost burned ends but then the wait begins for the next book. ugh!

message 7815: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I'm excited to say that I finished Firelight (Darkest London, #1) by Kristen Callihan . It takes me forever to finish books nowadays because of school. And it was pretty good!

Might read The Rake by Mary Jo Putney or Heaven, Texas (Chicago Stars, #2) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips . Not too sure which one yet....

message 7816: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yep, Regina, I'm LOVING it. I'm at about 80% and it's soooo good! I'm going to be sad when it's over and I'm switching series, lol.

message 7817: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Mercy is such an amazing series. I guess we have Kate Daniels to tide us over - and the knowledge that Briggs is releasing another Mercy book in 2014!

I hate that. That happens to me too.

message 7819: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I am hoping for a new Downside Ghost book too! It's not got a title, ISBN, or picture, but damn it I'm holding out hope!

I actually have a lot of new releases coming up.

Wow, OK... those are brand-new covers, so yeah. Looks like FSOG is winning on the cover-front these days. But it's kinda better than all the bare chests that are out there now. Don't get me wrong - I love a guy with a great bare chest, but it's overkill when every novel has one.

Kay - totally agree! If I had hard cover/paperback books of everything on my Kindle, I'd have to hide most of them. And not because all the content is erotica/steamy, either - mainly because of the crazy covers that everyone's going with these days. (See bare chest comment above - LOL!)

message 7822: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished Frost Burned so amazing, I don't want to wait for more Mercy and Adam...

I cannot wait for another Kate Daniels and also Downside Ghosts (Jumps up and down chanting Chess and Terrible forever :).

I'm starting Gameboard of the Gods - Can't wait!

message 7823: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, I never read Gunmetal Magic, will I be missing out if i read Magic Rises when it comes out? Just curious so if I need to read GM i can.

message 7825: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I never read Gunmetal Magic either! That's a very good question, Leea, lol. I have it though, we should buddy read it.

message 7826: by Leea (new)

Leea Yep... I started it but for some reason couldn't get into it.

message 7827: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yeah, I haven't felt the pull for it either.

I should have put it down. But other fans loved it.

message 7830: by Leea (new)

Leea So Regina, do we need to read Gunmetal Magic before the new Kate Daniels book? What do you think?

Working my way thru Gameboard of the Gods and it's like many of her first in a series for me, i'm still not understanding the world just yet... Anyone else reading this? Besides my girl Wendy :)

message 7831: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think you should read it. Sorry.

message 7832: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh, no need to be sorry. I'll give it another try :) Thanks book guru :)

I'm finally feeling better and i'm so excited... How's everyones weekend going?

Krystina (bookgirl13) | 2 comments Just finished "The Confidant" by Helene Gremillon. It is a great easy read and the story was interesting. A bit of a quick ending but over all a good time.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Hello ladies! Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Black Feathers (Black Dawn, #1) by Joseph D'Lacey After Hours by Cara McKenna

And am finishing up Arcadia by Lauren Groff The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires (Half Moon Hollow, #2) by Molly Harper

All are good. ;)

Sorry Laura I didn't mean to scare you. I would recommend avoiding some of the other reviews as well. Stacia only gave it a one star. You should read it and not worry about what we say about it. Sandra and Shiran both liked it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Kay, you have to read Ghost's book. It's really good. I think the story was much better than Brian/Candace, even though Ghost can't replace Brian.

Finished Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and it was decent, although not one of the most impressive fantasy debuts I've read. I liked one of the characters enough that I'll continue on with the series though.

Started Beautiful Days (Bright Young Things, #2) by Anna Godbersen and Bonds of Need (Wicked Play, #2) by Lynda Aicher

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Regina, sorry to hear you were sick. I got hit with a bug or something (might have been food poisoning) yesterday, myself. Hope you're feeling better!

I will try to get to Ghost's book the next time I'm in an erotica mood. right now, I am in my British Chick Lit phase and I'm reading
A Promising Man (and About Time, Too) by Elizabeth Young .

How do you like the Bright Young Things series? I read The Luxe #1 but never finished the series. There were lots of drama and a little too 'gossip girls' for me at the time. I hope to finish the series one day tho.

message 7848: by Leea (new)

Leea IF you're going to read it Kay, let me know and i'll join you :)

I hope you feel better Regina... Trust me I hope you don't get the stomach bug that I got - That sucked! Stacia, hope that's not what you had. Fingers are crossed for you girl :)

Had to put aside Gameboard of the Gods because I just couldn't get into it and I had to DNF it and I feel like crap. Might pick it up again at some point.

Now i'm reading Into the Fire (Troubleshooters, #13) by Suzanne Brockmann and it's so good. awesome Izzy moments :) I'm about 30% into it and there are a few story lines going and that happens sometimes with this series but I almost wish there was not so much going on. I want to know more about Murphy and Hannah.

Taking the boys to the Zoo tomorrow, trying to get some fun time in on our last week of spring break. My oldest has his first Animal Research Project, he's so excited.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Sacramento Zoo? That's one of my favorite zoos. Have fun!

Kay, I shouldn't have waited so long to pick up book 2 because I don't remember what happened with all of the characters. The story revolves around 3 girls, so I'm a little overwhelmed. I hope I'll figure it out.

I know a lot of people didn't like Luxe book 1 but I felt like that series gained a lot of momentum with book 2. It became a lot more deeper than the first book led you to believe it would be. But that series has 4 characters, so I think it's another one that would be hard to pick up without a refresh.

Finished Bonds of Need (Wicked Play, #2) by Lynda Aicher and it was a fast and steamy read. Definitely better than the first book - not quite so 'housewife fantasy' this time.
