I just bought this, Regina. I looked at it the other day and decided it was too much. But I love emotionally moving books, so it sounds like it's worth it.

No worries about it. We all have been there. I can't wait to hear what Leea and Stacia think.

Oh I hope you enjoy it! Zarr's writing is so moving. Her endings are good, realistic but not a happily ever after. There is such beauty in what she is doing with this book. It is almost a fantasy -- what if a person you loved and missed from your past came back? Do you want that chance to just see them and be with them again?

I'm about halfway now and it's actually not that bad so far. I think I was expecting to not like it very much, so it's surpassing what I'd hoped. Although, I have a few random "huh?" thoughts here and there.

I'm going to start

Oh, I love 'What if' stories! The Family Man is one of my favorite movies. I just love that premise!

Whyyyy did I think it would be okay to read yet another hyped contemporary?

I debated on giving it 2 stars but I liked how Raina's life was portrayed but didn't like the execution of the romance.

I cannot wait to read your review Stacia.

Okay, I'd sort of peeked at a couple of the comments earlier but didn't want to look at too much for fear of repeating/copying someone else's thoughts in my review.
I am SO with you on that one though. It was a huge WTF for me.
What about the fact that (view spoiler)
I had to 2 star it and I was almost wanting to go down to 1 because I only really enjoyed the first few chapters and the very end, but I already met my ranty review quota for the month, so I kept it less ranty.
Sorry I dragged you guys into this one. The next time you see me wanting to push a super-hyped book for a buddy read, just shake me and tell me no.

I also thought them getting married and then her going to th..."
This made me pause too, but since I know nothing about the military, I didn't feel like I could comment much about it.

I jumped on the bandwagon and bought this, too. Now I'm thinking maybe I should return it.

Thank you!

Yes, the setting is Iraq. there are no other prostitutes in the story nor does she have a pimp. Her clients just show up at her house to exchange money for sex. She does this from the first Gulf War to the 2nd.

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

I just looked this up on Wiki and thought this was interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitu...
Thanks Kay! I am at the part where (view spoiler)

Regina, you are at the parts that are still interesting. So, you decided that you will continue reading this book?

I thought it was interesting that the private contractors in Iraq brought in foreign prostitutes.

I did like the whole premise of the book and really enjoyed the background of Raina and all that she went through. You are so right about the writing. If she had the right tools, the execution could have been so much better.

I'm loving

ETA Wendy don't read the spoiler. I thought you were finished. Only click if you finished. Yikes.

I LOOVED Jules! (view spoiler)
I loved Cosmo!!!! The other side of him was so sweet. I loved how he was really very tender and romantic. AND, I've been begging for a slow going romance where they were happy to just fall in love with each other, and the drama is from outside influence and not from their own stubbornness. She finally gave me what I'd been asking for, and it was perfect. I really do think it was up there as one of my favorites, if not my total favorite so far.
The end was (view spoiler) .
(Sorry Leea!!!!)

Go ahead... i'm now determined to finish this tonight.
