Yup, let's do it together! But let's wait until we have the print as backup JIC. Mine is in transit so hopefully I'll have it within a week or so.

I found the narrator's voice a bit whiny. I know he's supposed to be young but anyways. Although I didn't give it more than a couple of minutes. Maybe if I try more than that, I'll get the hang of him but usually I can tell right away if I will like a narrator or not.

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) I'll have you know, Stacia, that I have Rocky Mountain High playing in my head now...just b/c of all your posts about Colorado. LOL (this is not a bad thing, imo)

Stacia, I think that is just it. Catie said she thought he came off as too nerdy, when he is actually a cool character. I don't watch the show so I have no impression of him.

I loved the local impression. I have never been to Colorado except for passing through the airport from Salt Lake, so it does put it into context. When you all read Ashfall, I will do the same. :) The dichotomy between the 80 degrees and the snow is so odd. And I love that you get super powers just moving down in altitude. I lived in Mexico City for awhile and the adjustment was hard. So I kinda understand.

Leea, I get what you meant. I like the writing right away. I love the set up -- I love get aways and escape from reality because of pressure books. Maybe bc I can relate. I harbor outback fantasies. :) I think he is hot but a few things bother me about him -- like the clothes thing and him ordering her around. So you called it well for me, but I really like Ashley's voice as a writer. I feel like I will like this. I am surprise it is so long though, what possibly can happen over all of these pages? I hope I am making sense, I am having my Saturday wine ...

LOL!! I didn't but I do now! My family is watching Blues Brothers right now so I have those tunes in my head. My family LOVES that movie and watches it over and over again. The fact that we live in Chicago helps I think.

message 605: by Leea (new)

Leea I just finished Mystery Man (Dream Man, #1) by Kristen Ashley and I loved it! At times Hawk reminded me of my husband, lol!

I might have to read the next Dream Man book... I'm loving Kristen Ashley more and more...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I wish I could do that. I suck at reading series in order. It will probably take me at least a year to get through her books if I end up liking what I'm reading.

message 607: by Leea (new)

Leea I want to drag them out but I can't help myself. haha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I just can't read the same series or genre back to back to back like that. I have to mix it up and get variety or I start getting antsy. It's a bad thing because I leave so many series unfinished.

message 609: by Leea (new)

Leea I've been on a major CR kick... I keep waiting to get bored but I'm not. It's really freaking me out :) Normally I want to mix it up too. I'm afraid i'll run out of KA books to read. haha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It's not possible. There's like twenty something books maybe? I don't know but it's a lot. And they're all long...

message 611: by Leea (new)

Leea Thank God! I do know she writes fast, I wont have to wait 3 years for her next book. haha! Not sure if I want to read KA PNR books, i'll have to research that.

I've heard they're not so good, so stick to CR for now :). And you're a lucky woman if Hawk reminds you of your husband...

message 613: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Now I want to read about hawk!! 20 books? Are they all this long?

message 614: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Actually, I think it's 30-ish and I think they're all that long... And Hawk is hot, but Gwennie got on my nerves from time to time.

And, I've read The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams and I ADORED it. So good. Even the LT was done in a good way... This could become one of my favorite UF series...

message 615: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I really need to read that. Kay had convinced me awhile ago and another friend of mine loves it, I plan on reading it in the next month. Anyone else?

I read your review Mimi, it was hilarious.

message 616: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So I am listening to The Boyfriend List 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver (Ruby Oliver, #1) by E. Lockhart and I am loving it. It truly is a YA book, it is a lot of fun. I have put the audio of The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne, #1) by Robert Ludlum as the audio is getting on my nerves, but I am coming back to it.

I am reading Wool 4 The Unraveling by Hugh Howey The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley The Walking Dead, Vol. 2 Miles Behind Us by Robert Kirkman

message 617: by Leea (new)

Leea I liked Gwen's, quirks. :) Her fascination with $1000 shoes was a little over the top.

I have Shadow Reader and have heard some wonderful things, I just want to wait for #2 before I start the first book.

unfortunately my husband does not physically look like Hawk but they share the same eating habits. It's more the epilogue, where he really reminded me of my hubby.

I'm going to start Wild Man (Dream Man, #2) by Kristen Ashley because i'm now hooked ;)

message 618: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, you're reading The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley ? Most of Kristen Ashley's males are very Alpha so if you like this, then I don't see how any of the others would bother you. This will give me more insight into your psyche... hahaha!

message 619: by Regina (last edited Apr 15, 2012 08:48AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Funny. :) Yes --I am, my post got lost above, here let me find it ... (so you were right ..... I am not hooked yet and just wanting to read read read, but it is a busy weekend)

Copy and Paste from above - my Saturday night post: Leea, I get what you meant. I like the writing right away. I love the set up -- I love get aways and escape from reality because of pressure books. Maybe bc I can relate. I harbor outback fantasies. :) I think he is hot but a few things bother me about him -- like the clothes thing and him ordering her around. message 620: by Leea (new)

Leea I get what you mean. I joined the Kristen Ashley support group (lol) and a women in that group called all the men speak... Manglish. So funny! but true. There is a mystery that happens in each book, a lot happens in The Gamble. In the next book you move to another small town and the characters in the Gamble only make a small appearance.

Wine on Sunday morining? Party at Regina's house lol! I'm here drinking coffee...

I thought you might like this, my husband is reading Game of Thrones and loving it. He had to take back his copy to the library but I had a small Mass market paperback.

message 621: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) No sweetie -- that was a copy and paste from my post above -- from last night. :) I am drinking coffee too!

So cool! Glad he is enjoying it. I have heard from so many people that they have to return GoT because the time period is way too short to read such an intensive and long book!

message 622: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha -- but now that wine bottle is looking GOOD>

message 623: by Leea (new)

Leea Apparently, I need more coffee. lol!

message 624: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha! Nah, go for the wine. :)

message 625: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I should have marked it better as a copy and paste, here I go to edit

The Shadow Reader is good, so I'll join the convincing. And, Leea, of course you can wait for the 2nd book, but there is no cliffhanger here. Even the LT looks resolved (which, of course doesn't mean that it is, lol)

And, thanks! I did that kind of review for the whole series(letters to the hero, heroine and the author).

I have it on my rainbow challenge, so I have to read it.

message 628: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) When will you be reading it?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) My plan was sometime before the end of the month but not at least for a week.

message 630: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Tried to listen to the audiobook for Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning but bailed pretty fast. They just didn't sound at all like I imagined them and I couldn't get past that. I have that trouble a lot with audiobooks.

message 631: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Also read Bear Necessities (Halle Shifters, #1) by Dana Marie Bell Great for the steamy factor but I like sexual tension in my romances. The build up. And this didn't really fit the bill.

Switching to audio after reading the first few books of a series in print usually doesn't work for me. I have to start at the beginning.

Although that narration is known as one of the best out there so if you didn't like it, then maybe audios are not for you.

Regina (reginar) I have no problem listening after I have read. I often re-read by audio! But then I LOVE audios. I agree, that the Dreamfever audio is pretty well performed -- that is when Phil Gigante started in the Fever series.

Maybe try another audio that is well rated for a book you haven't read -- and if you don't like it, then I guess audios are not for you.

message 635: by D.G. (last edited Apr 15, 2012 02:43PM) (new)

D.G. I re-read by audio too but usually for books I read a while back. If it's an ongoing series I'm already reading, then I have more issues.

One of my bingo mates recently told me about The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams so I should be reading it one of these days too.

message 636: by D.G. (last edited Apr 15, 2012 03:00PM) (new)

D.G. I finished reading Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs and I agree it wasn't as good as the first few books in the series but it was still good.

So I'm trying to finish up The Charade (Ecstasy, #2) by Mackenzie McKade , just too see where this crazy plot is going. I'm just skimming at this point, though.

And it's a sad day when On The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin was more interesting than Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie . Lord, that book is so boring that this morning I switched to "Species" just to listen to something engaging because I couldn't take Crossed anymore. Don't know why I haven't dnfed it. Maybe I should switch to print so I can finish it quickly.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) D.G., you could always join Regina and I (if she wants to buddy read). Wendy also might still be using it for the orange rainbow color as well, so if she's free...

Crossed was painful to read in parts. I will probably read the third book because at this point, I might as well see how it ends. I do wish that I'd not wasted my time to begin with though. The author has talent to write but I have a huge pet peeve with dystopia/post-apocalyptic books which focus too much on prose or writing at the expense of moving the plot forward.

message 638: by Leea (new)

Leea Let me know when you ladies decided to read Shadow Reader, I might join you :)

Oh drat! My library doesn't have it available. I put myself on the hold list but it will take at least 2 weeks if whomever has it just took it out. :(

The thing with Crossed is that sometimes the language is too maudlin and these teenagers don't seem real to me but an ideal of what young people should be. They seem too innocent for people that have seen so much.

I agree, I wish I hadn't started. I read this one because I was dissapointed with Pandemonium.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Check your inbox in a sec.

There aren't a ton of dystopia books which measure up to my standards, unfortunately. I know you weren't a fan of Divergent but I read that one after reading 3 or 4 different dystopia books which were ALL about the prose and I was starting to have that, "when is the shit going to hit the fan?" feeling. At least with Divergent, there was something going on other than people sitting around and talking. But I understand somewhat why you didn't like it.

It sounds like by what you mentioned about Matched/Crossed that you would not be a fan of Wither or Uglies either, so stay away from those.

Unwind is so worth the read though if you ever get the chance. The last few chapters are FREAKY.

message 641: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Can somebody lend me Mystery Man? I thought it was available on Lendle but I see it has a waiting list.

(Because I don't have enough books between those I own and those I have from the library, I'm also asking people to lend me books! I'm out of control, I tell you.)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I probably can. Let me check and if so, I'll include it with the other one.

message 643: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I read Divergent a month after I finished Catching Fire & Mockingjay so of course it couldn't stand the comparison. I can understand if I had read it after Matched, let's say, I probably wouldn't have found it so objectionable.

I've had Unwind on my iPod since last year and have been meaning to get to it. I'm just thinking to give it a bit of room because Luke Daniels is the narrator and I'm thinking I'll be listening to Tricked in the next month or so.

message 644: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The audio for unwind is fantastic. The politics describing how it created the world was not believable. But the story is very well done.

message 645: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Maybe I'll listen to Unwind after my next audio (I don't like to listen to the same genre in a row.)

message 646: by D.G. (new)

D.G. So when are you guys starting Shadow Reader? I may start Mystery Man next but can switch to SR if you guys are starting it soon.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm doing a buddy read of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes with Carina and Leea on Tuesday and I need to finish up a group read for another group before then so I can't buddy read anything until later in the week at the earliest.
