Marcella, thanks for the TMI link. It actually looks better than I thought it would.

D.G. I just finished Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews . I just love Kate and Curran together. They are most kickass couple in UF! I'm sad I'm up to date.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Yay, Angie! I'm excited but also sorry that's it's over :(

I am so glad you loved this series! :-) I am interested to see what you think about gunmetal magic. I loved 1-5 of Kate, but was soso about gunmetal magic.

This is definitely the best UF series out there. I like the gore and how the supernaturals are so freaking frightening. And I want to be Kate when I grow up. When she kicked that door, I almost starting clapping in the subway!

I got Gunmetal Magic in audio today but I want to try and make some headway in some of my other series.

message 5722: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Very sad to say it, but I'm pretty disappointed in Dark Descendant (Nikki Glass, #1) by Jenna Black , which I just finished. Now I'm so burnt out from this book, I have no idea what to read next. Nothing looks interesting to me at the moment :(

message 5723: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Nov 15, 2012 11:55PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Just finished Undercover Professor by December Gephart and even though it had some clunky moments and a few cringe-worthy terms, it was fun to see a contemporary romance with a more normal guy (disguised as a nerd no less!) and not another stereotypical alpha male that I've read a hundred times before.

Starting Broken by A.E. Rought

message 5724: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I just got back from watching Breaking Dawn and it was so good! I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks about it.

I am a fangirl! An older one, but a fangirl nonetheless! LOL

It really is hella good. The ending is different from the book but so well executed! This is probably my fave movie out of the 5.

Angie, I'm an older fan girl myself. Even though I now realize that the books aren't as good as I thought they were, I'm thankful that these books got me back to reading again and then finding so many better books afterwards.

message 5728: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm not saying i'm not a fangirl but I just don't want to sit in a packed theater with girls screaming for Edward. haha! I'll go in a few weeks with my girlfriends and have wine before - it's our tradition.

A lot different? I have a vague memory of how it ended, I wonder if i'll notice.

message 5729: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments It's different enough to notice. I won't say anymore b/c I don't want to spoil it for you. For me, it was great watching it without knowing how it'd end.

message 5730: by Ridh (new)

Ridh (jaan123) | 19 comments I'm watching it at 4:30 today! Yay! I noticed that the ending would change when I watched the trailer. I'm trying not to set my expectations too high. Speaking of wine (by the by, I love the whole "wine tradition" Leea) I just finished A lot Like Love. It was a really really good book, but I still like Something About You more. Jordan and Nick we well developed characters, and the story was great. Julie James executed to it amazingly, and I love the witty banter. But I gave it four stars (4.5 to be specific). Did anyone else notice all the times "wine" was referenced to about? I love wine as much as the next girl, but there were so many references back to it. One or two times in every chapter is one thing, but every other page is a bit much. It still a good read though! :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Now you have me curious. I had picked up A Lot Like Love (FBI / US Attorney, #2) by Julie James last year and couldn't get into it. There didn't seem to be much to the story. But maybe I made the mistake of not starting from Something About You? I didn't realize the books were a series when I picked up ALLL.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, I also started Tricked (Iron Druid Chronicles, #4) by Kevin Hearne . Love the con that happened right at the start of the book.

message 5733: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Stacia, with my flying this week I finally had time to finish Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters I love (lol) what the title means. Part of the problem that I had in finishing it is that I have been working late, taking cabs and not riding on the train or reading at night b/c it is too late. Plus, I find I am reading on my new iphone all the time, and Tipping the Velvet was on my kindle. But the flight attendants let me read on my kindle during take off and landing, so it was a perfect time to sit and read. I loved it. I loved her evolution as a person and her discovery of herself.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Nice! Glad you got a chance to finish it. I agree that it was a interesting journey to watch as she started to find out things about herself that she didn't know before. The ending was perfect to me because it was sweet justice.

message 5735: by Ridh (new)

Ridh (jaan123) | 19 comments Stacia, I'm not sure starting from Something About You would have helped you understand A Lot Like Love, but I think you'll like the first one better. It's just a better rounded book. It could just be me since I'm more of an HR reader. My experience with this genre isn't as well developed as it is with HR.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm sort of hit and miss with contemporary romances anyway, so the problem could just be with me. I also am not as big of a fan of white collar/office type romances...they usually have to have an extremely well-developed story for me to get on board.

message 5737: by Ridh (new)

Ridh (jaan123) | 19 comments That might explain why you didn't like A Lot Like Love. It wasn't THE best. I'm a sucker for a book with a good cover too, it's why I picked up Something About You. :P I ended up liking I and it, so I moved one to the next book. Like I said I'm new to contemporary romance. I really want to try reading some, but I don't know where to start with. Any ideas? :)

message 5738: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I would love a really convincing and well developed contemporary romance that takes place in a lawfirm. I haven't yet read Julie James though. The best portrayal of lawfirm life I have seen is the movie Michael Clayton (with Clooney). But that is not attractive or sexy stuff.

I love contemps that do really good character development, but I do find them few and far between. Some good contemporaries for me have been the entire Virgin River series, the Troubleshooters series starting with book 3+++, and Easy.

Virgin River (Virgin River, #1) by Robyn Carr Over the Edge (Troubleshooters, #3) by Suzanne Brockmann Easy by Tammara Webber

I did really enjoy the first in the Destiny series and I am enjoying the second so far, but those are much lighter. One Reckless Summer (Destiny, #1) by Toni Blake Sugar Creek (Destiny, #2) by Toni Blake

message 5739: by Ridh (new)

Ridh (jaan123) | 19 comments I'll definitely try them! I've heard great things about Virgin River and Sugar Creek sounds interesting. Thanks Regina!

message 5740: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Riddhi one thing about Virgin River -- there are a lot of babies, pregnancies and baby/pregnancy talk. Some readers who dont' like that get irritated. I happen to like that stuff, so it is up my alley. ;)

message 5741: by Ridh (new)

Ridh (jaan123) | 19 comments I haven't read many books with babies and pregnancy, so I guess I will figure out whether that irritates me. :) But I sincerely hope it doesn't. I'm trying to dig myself out of HR, which isn't as easy as it seems.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) As long as it's not the old-as-time "secret baby" plot.

Suzanne Brockmann has another Navy Seal series you might want to try if you liked the Troubleshooters. I can't remember what they are called, but the first one is Frisco's Kid. I've heard they're very good.

Courtney | 337 comments Marcella - I just realized that I know who Kyle is...I have a really bad memory haha

message 5745: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished Something About You (FBI / US Attorney, #1) by Julie James and I really liked it. Not sure when i'll read the second book... let me know when you ladies start it.

I'm going to start Leave Me Breathless (Ross Siblings, #3) by Cherrie Lynn , read the first 3 chapters and it's hot and different. Love that he's a bad boy, she's all strung up on being perfect. Can't wait to read how that all changes.

I need an UF... Might also start Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane . I know that you guys have recommended it in the past.

message 5746: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I really need some good urban fantasy right now. I was really disappointed with Dark Descendant and, truthfully, haven't read a good one since Kate Daniels.

I am about a quarter of the way through the first one and I love it so far! My library had it available for electronic loan. They didn't have the next two in that format. I have to wait for them to come from through interlibrary loan until I can read them. That's going to be a pain since I think I am going to finish this one tonight and am in a book buying freeze.

message 5749: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) For all you fans of Anita Clenney's Highland Warrior series, her latest prequel to book 1 Awaken the Highland Warrior just came out - it's entitled Faelan Connor clan 0.5, and it's awesome!

Yes, I was a beta reader for Anita, so perhaps I'm a tiny bit prejudiced. But I think even she'd tell you that I'm not an easy reader - LOL!

I'm really impressed with the final product! And it's a great way to get into the Highland Warrior series. If you've already read books 1 & 2, this is a nice, meaty "appetizer" to hold you over until the next Warrior book (#3) comes out sometime in 2013 (I think).

The book tells the back story of the yummy Highland warrior, Faelan Connor, who is awakened in the 1st book by Bree - is she or isn't she Faelan's mate? Since warriors can only marry within the warrior clans and mates are generally "fated", will Bree face heartbreak for falling for this alpha-male, luscious Highland warrior in a kilt? A warrior who fights demons, halflings, vampires, and other evil things that go bump in the night?
