Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks by Nicholas Sparks a few hours ago. The book was a bit of a disappointment really. I've read most of Spark's books and I think I'm too used to his writing style. I found the plot of the story to be extremely predictable and slightly unrealistic. But if you've never read a Nicholas Spark novel before, you'd probably like it.

Now I'm about to start reading Ford County by John Grisham by John Grisham. It's the october monthly read in a Goodreads group I'm in and I want to get a head start on it.

I've been wanting to try some of her books out. Can you recommend one that you really liked?

message 5054: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Has anyone read Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly #1) by Janette Oke ? I saw the Hallmark movie for this a few years ago and really liked it. I wonder if the book is any good.

message 5055: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I haven't Kay but it sounds interesting.

I went to the library today and was surprised to find Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4) by J.R. Ward waiting for me.

message 5056: by Courtney (last edited Sep 26, 2012 08:21PM) (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Kay - I actually didn't really like any of her books. I've only read the Princess Diaries series and Avalon High, which are YA books. I haven't read many of her contemporary adult novels. So I think this will be my first. But I'll let you know how it goes!

message 5057: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 26, 2012 08:34PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Kay, I love the movie Love Comes softly. I've actually seen the entire series.

I read the book after seeing the movie since I loved it so much. If I remember correctly the movie departs a bit from the book(as is the norm). I think I read the first two. They were good, but not amazing. They are Christian historical fiction.

message 5058: by Kay (last edited Sep 26, 2012 08:33PM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I still haven't read the Fallen Angels series yet. I'm glad you got it from the library. You probably was 1st in line.

Thanks, Courtney. I'll wait to hear what you think about that book then. Hopefully, you like it better than her others.

Leea Finished At Peace.

The next few days are so busy, I hope I have a chance to read at all.

message 5063: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Sep 26, 2012 08:51PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) I've been on a HUGE romance novel kick, of late. I just read the Dundee,Idaho series by Brenda Novak. A Baby Of Her Own by Brenda Novak A Husband of Her Own (Dundee, Idaho Series, #2) by Brenda Novak A Family Of Her Own by Brenda Novak They were pretty cute since I really liked the town's characters. There are more to the series, but I think I'm going to take a break and read something else.

I think it's time for the Texas Rogues series by Lorraine Heath ! *cough* Leea :)

message 5064: by Courtney (last edited Sep 26, 2012 08:47PM) (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Leea - I'm guessing that was in the second book then? I probably won't buy it! Just read it when I go to the bookstore or something xD

Stacia - I loved the movie, too! And the books were pretty good, just not memorable. I just liked it.

You're welcome, Kay. They are very tame and have a simple writing style, but sometimes I like that. These books were written a while back, too, in the late 70's.

message 5066: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Ok, hang on. I did read more of Meg Cabot's books! My favorites of hers were Victoria and the Rogue by Meg Cabot and Nicola and the Viscount by Meg Cabot . They're YA/historical romance. They were one of the first few romance books I've read.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm actually curious about the Mona Lisa books. Is it shifters having sex in animal form? I always wonder why shifters don't do this more often? It's not bestiality if both people are in animal form. If it's person to animal, that's a different story.

Finished Ten by Gretchen McNeil and it did read like a mix of an updated and fluffier version of And Then There Were None plus the show Harpers Island (I really did love that show!). I think the book would be a lot more exciting to anyone who hasn't read ATTWN because it would feel new to them (Ten was a retelling, so I don't knock it for being similar in parts). It was a fast and easy read...fun enough, but not the best murder mystery I've read.

I love this series. I forgot I had Lucinda Darkly. I'm going to have to read it now that you reminded me how much I love the way Sunny writes.

Regina (reginar) No bestiality. Matriarchy - led by a queen and a group of men who serve her

message 5074: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina - Did you get Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4) by J.R. Ward in review or print? I haven't been able to continue listening. I'm so freaking mad.

I'm reading What's Left of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles, #1) by Kat Zhang and I'm really liking it. It's the kind of book I like where there's a lot of gray - I feel bad for everybody because they all are in the terrible position.

message 5075: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments Finished On Dublin Street by Samantha Young and loved it. Did rereads of Saddled and Spurred (Blacktop Cowboys, #2) by Lorelei James and One Night Rodeo (Blacktop Cowboys, #4) by Lorelei James . Currently reading Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning .

message 5076: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I keep meaning to try the Blacktop Cowboys series. :) Have fun with Shadowfever!

message 5077: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG I listened to the sample it is so fast, I agree. Were you able to return it? I requested both audio and print from the library and got the print first. I did not get an ARC for this book - I am not sure if Ward does ARCs? It will be weird to hold that big library book on the train. I like being anonymous and not having all my neighbors know what I read.

In Wild Seed (Patternmaster, #1) by Octavia E. Butler there is mating and desire felt while the shifters have shifted - -and mating where the shifters shift to different genders.

I haven't returned it yet because I don't know if that will delete my review on Audible, which has several helpful votes since yesterday. I think I'll call Customer Service, ask and then see.

I won't be able to review it for the blog as I was planning because I don't know that I care about it in print. I was in love with the way Eric Dove did the narration!

message 5082: by Regina (last edited Sep 27, 2012 08:02AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I loved the way he did #1 ( read #2 and #3). I am so all over the place with this series. I liked #2 and didn't really care for most of 1 and 3, but liked parts of 1 and 3. I was hoping that Ward would hit it home with #4. But it sounds like they were rushing production and not checking quality. I am going to go over to audible and give it a helpful vote.

So I had planned on cancelling my audible account, but that meant I had to spend 2 credits and $10 before yesterday - -I had no idea what to buy so now I have 3 credits and I am on the hook again. I need to figure out what to buy and get out!

ETA:
I just went to audible. All the reviews are about speed: http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=hp_f_1?...

One person said they switched to slower and it helped, but you shouldn't have to.

message 5083: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG I just read your review of Storm Front on audible (I am now following you!) I will say I didn't start listening to the narration until #3 and it is fabulous #3+++ in narration. I have heard other people complain about the narration for 1 and 2. So maybe he does get better.

message 5084: by Leea (new)

I honestly don't have a clue. I listened to an hour and stopped when I realized I had probably had had to relisten every 5 minutes 2 and 3 times just to follow what's going on.

I tried that but it didn't help for me. I like the pizzass of the previous narrations and it doesn't feel the same if you just slow it down. Also, it sounds really weird.

Ah, that makes sense. So frustrating. This is obviously a production error.

Well that is a bit discouraging. The books in this series are a little confusing. Could it be that you listened to it instead of reading that it was too complicated...well more than usual?
