Rachel the Book Harlot I finished Lord of Dishonor by Edith Layton , which was just okay, and now I'm starting The Other Soldier by Kathy Altman by Kathy Altman.

I read this one Joan and I just loved it. Which reminds me, I have to check when the next book is coming out.

message 4957: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm about 60% into White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert and it's nothing like what I thought it would be. It's really good, you can tell the author is still working out her writing but I'm really enjoying the story.

message 4958: by Leea (new)

Leea Has anyone read Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart I keep seeing these books lately and people really like them. Just wanted to get your thoughts.

message 4959: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I don't think I realized it, but I read the third book, Ice Blue (Ice, #3) by Anne Stuart and wasn't really into it. There was literally no development in the relationship between the hero and heroine. And the hero never really warms up. I don't know about the others in the series, though. After reading Ice Blue, I probably wouldn't read any of the other books in the series.

message 4960: by Leea (new)

Leea Hmmm... That's too bad. I might still try and read the first one.

message 4961: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Well, if you do read it, tell me how it goes! It's one of those plots I was looking for with a strong hero but knowing how the author writes, I'm not too sure I want to delve into that. I'll be looking out for your thoughts on this one!!!

message 4962: by Leea (new)

Leea I've only read one book by her and it was HR... I'll let you know for sure ;)

message 4963: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I finished reading Horizons by Mickie B. Ashling . This was a great book. I am glad I realized this was a series and got to read their love story. So great!

message 4965: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Sep 22, 2012 11:30PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Just finished Stolen by Shiloh Walker and it was decent and spooky for a romantic suspense, but that isn't normally a genre I'm a big fan of, so I liked it but didn't love it (only because of my preferences). Fans of the genre might enjoy the book.

I sure am! I am excited too. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Courtney | 337 comments Regina - Actually, I was mixing up Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop with A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton ! I find Mona Lisa Awakening pretty similar to Kiss of Shadows.

I'm now halfway through Mona Lisa Awakening (Monère Children of the Moon, #1) by Sunny and I'm loving it! What a surprise too because I didn't think I would like where this book was going. I love Amber!

Courtney then you are home free! If you haven't read the other series that I believe are the inspirations for that series, then you can just sit back and enjoy. :)

message 4972: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am stumped as to what to start next. I want it to be a fast and easy read with romance. Here is what I am thinking:

Down by the River (Grace Valley Trilogy, #3) by Robyn Carr One Reckless Summer (Destiny, #1) by Toni Blake Between the Lines (Between the Lines, #1) by Tammara Webber Thoughtless (Thoughtless, #1) by S.C. Stephens Finding the Lost (Sentinel Wars, #2) by Shannon K. Butcher Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers #1) by Sarah MacLean

message 4973: by Leea (last edited Sep 23, 2012 10:03AM) (new)

Leea I didn't know you started the Grace Valley series, is it any good?

I say if you want romance with sex :) go with One Reckless Summer. Thoughtless has sex but tons of drama, TONS.

Nine rules is also fun, I can't remember what I didn't like about it. Guess, i need to go and reread my own review. lol!

message 4974: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina, I really liked 9 Rules, One Reckless Summer and Between the Lines. These are all very fast and easy reads. The romance in Between the Lines doesn't get resolved until the following book tho.

I'm looking for a sweet fast romance too....I'm still searching.

message 4975: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert and I liked it. The author is still fine tuning her writing skills and parts were choppy but in the end I connected with the characters and can't wait to read the next book.

message 4976: by Regina (last edited Sep 23, 2012 10:06AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha -- thanks, I knew I could count on both of you! I think I will do One Reckless Summer. :) And then do one of the others later.

Oops, I should have said this one Leea Deep in the Valley (Grace Valley Trilogy, #1) by Robyn Carr -- I haven't started it yet.

Leea Thanks Kay! Yeah, she's independently published - I love those authors ;)

She has another series, I believe it's erotica that I also have and might read next week sometime. Honor Student (Honor Series, #1) by Teresa Mummert

We're hanging around the house relaxing and the boys are watching football while I read and check my email. Then i'm off to work a wedding till late tonight. We have another busy week ahead of us.

Rachel the Book Harlot Leea wrote: "Has anyone read Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart I keep seeing these books lately and people really like them. Just wanted to get your thoughts."

Leea, I've read that one. Have you started reading it already?

message 4984: by Leea (new)

Leea No, I haven't started it, maybe next week. What did you think Rachel?

message 4985: by Rachel the Book Harlot (last edited Sep 23, 2012 11:39AM) (new)

Rachel the Book Harlot I thought it was just okay - the plot was a little weak and had some holes. I also just wanted to let you know that Bastien, the Hero, is very much an anti-hero in the beginning and there is sort of a forced seduction scene. The heroine is also very much a "damsel in distress" type.

Anyway, I'm curious to hear what you think of it when you're done.

message 4986: by Leea (new)

Leea What do you mean by "forces seduction?" Rape? I love anti-heros but not ones that force women.

message 4990: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Yesterday I finished Ten Big Ones (Stephanie Plum, #10) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich. It's the tenth novel in the Stephanie Plum series. This novel had a far more serious and darker tone than the other books. It was a gripping and exciting read with an excellent plot and great characters.

Right now, I'm a couple of chapters into The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier by Ian Serraillier. This is a re-read. I first read in when I was in school. I remember liking it but I don't remember much about the plot.

message 4991: by Rachel the Book Harlot (last edited Sep 23, 2012 01:28PM) (new)

Rachel the Book Harlot Courtney wrote: "That sounds pretty similar to Ice Blue, too."

The forced seduction? Yeah, my impression is that Anne Stuart's books tend to contain 3 things: damsel heroine, very dark ruthless hero, and forced seduction/borderline rape scene.

Leea, it's a weird scene because the author puts a very fine line there for the reader to decide what they want to make out of it--especially because of the heroine's reaction to it. You get a "I don't want it but I really do want it" type of scenario. I guess it's kind of like the old bodice rippers. Just be warned that the hero is really not a nice guy.

I'm going to put in spoiler tags in case you want details about the scene:

(view spoiler)

message 4992: by Leea (new)

Leea Hmmm?!?!? Thanks for responding and telling me all that. I'm still going to read the book and see if I like it.

Do you end up liking Bastien as a character later? So each boom is about a different couple?

message 4993: by D.G. (last edited Sep 23, 2012 06:20PM) (new)

D.G. So my husband was out with a friend of his since this afternoon and he just called me to let me know he passed out on 42nd street and now he's in the hospital! It seems he had some shelfish and it gave him a big allergic reaction.

And now he's like...don't worry, I may be late tonight. WTH? He sounded fine but they are checking him up and what not.

message 4994: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Gah...DG...what a call to get. I hope he's okay. Is he generally allergic to shellfish? If he's talking then you know he's not short of breath. Hopefully, it's nothing too serious. Keep us updated....

message 4995: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh. No. I hope he's okay and keep us updated.

message 4996: by D.G. (new)

D.G. No, he hasn't been allergic before.

He sounded pretty normal, that's why I didn't freak out. He was more annoyed than anything.

When he called, the first thing he said was 'don't be frightened' and I immediately thought he and his friend were in jail (he sounded so normal that it never occurred to me he could be sick.)

message 4997: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I hope your husband is ok D.G. I developed an allergy to shrimp and lobster about 5 years ago. It sucks because I love shrimp.

message 4998: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Thanks, ladies. I'm so tired! But I don't want to go to sleep until he's home.

message 4999: by Regina (last edited Sep 24, 2012 06:01AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh my goodness! Did he come home okay? I didn't know these sort of reactions could just be developed. LMAO thinking they were in jail!!

I started and finished One Reckless Summer (Destiny, #1) by Toni Blake last night it was definitely very steamy. The sex scenes are great. Some of the best I have read. The only thing that bothered me was the long internal dialogues -- I am not a fan of those. But the characters, setting, and the steam was good. :) I really like the theme of rediscovery, reinvention -- whether it is returning home or moving somewhere rugged and new (like Virgin River). It is one of my favorite themes in movies and books. So if any of you fabulous ladies know of boos that are well done in that theme, I'd love to hear about them.

message 5000: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah the scene outside against the tree - um gulp!

Going to start At Peace (The 'Burg, #2) by Kristen Ashley today!!
