D.G. I'm feeling better, thanks Kay & Marcella. I think my husband was right and it was just the jet lag.

I can't seem to settle on one book to read! Arrrgh!

Jacqueline Seewald (jacquelineseewald) | 112 comments I just finished Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz's Crystal Gardens, her new paranormal romance set in the Victorian era. I enjoyed it very much, but I am a fan of her fiction and especially love romantic suspense.

Leea Finished Breathe (Colorado Mountain, #4) by Kristen Ashley and it was an amazing book. I love when you read a series and you're invested in the character and the author does not leave them in the past but includes them in the future books. It's awesome!!

Now i'm going to read, Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #2) by C.J. Roberts with Carina and Stacia.

I feel like I haven't chatting with most of you in so long, just know i'm thinking about you :)

message 4604: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG I just read back -- welcome back!! I am hoping it was just jet lag ..? I know the feeling, I can't find a book to stick with. It stinks.

Were you able to sight see?

Leea, I feel the same.

message 4605: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, How are you? How's you man doing? I miss chatting with you. You wont be surprised that i'm now doing more with our PTA and chairing the Harvest Festival.

message 4606: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I have been crazy with work, PTO, and soccer stuff -- plus just trying to live my life. I guess it makes sense that I am too tired to read?

It is never ending, isn't it?

I look forward to hear what you gals think about this one. I thought book 1 was ok & my feelings were mixed when I was done with it.

Live your life...the books will always be here when you're up for it.

message 4609: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm in a rut again...surprise, surprise. I started 3 different books and couldn't find anything to fit my mood. What do you guys do to get out of a funk? I need to find a better solution for myself...this seems to be happening to me a lot lately.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Either a genre switch or a re-read of a favorite.

What are you in the mood for? I'm actually a little nervous about Seduced because I'm not in the mood for a dark read right now. I'm still going to read it though.

message 4611: by Leea (new)

Leea It's dark, really really dark and messed up. I have not clue where this book is going. I like it better than the first book because it dive into Livvie's mind more. Plus there are some new interesting characters and the story is more involved. I think in the end it will be a major mind *uck.

Regina, you'll have more time to read soon. I'm sorry things are so busy you haven't been reading much. I hate having to give that little thing I love and enjoy up.

Kay, Ahh! Not again, dang it! What kind of book are you looking for?

message 4612: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I have no clue what I'm in the mood for...I tried UF, contemporary & chicklit which didn't do it for me. So, maybe I need to try a historical or dystopian. Hmm...maybe I'll try historical...I still need to finish Pamela Clare and Kinley MacGregor.

message 4613: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) I'm struggling to get into anything I read at the moment too, so much other stuff going on and when I have a chance to chill out I just can't. Have read some short stories (only reason why I finished them) but don't tend to get a chance to care about any of the characters.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) That stinks.

message 4615: by Leea (new)

Leea Somwtimes finishing a series just feels like you've accomplished something. Reading slumps suck, sorry honey.

Caitlyn, hope you get more time to read.

message 4616: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I just finished Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh . This one had such a great love story. It broke my heart at times but wow was it amazing. Hope there is a 12th book.

Yes, it seems to have been jet lag. I felt totally fine after resting for 4 days. :) It's amazing how I never feel bad when I go to a place but when I return I always feel terrible! :)

Yup, I went on a tour of the city that took me around and showed me some spots plus the old city...but the traffic in Manila is HORRIBLE so it didn't feel as if I got enough for my money. Anyways, at least I can say I saw more than my hotel and the office!

I admire you Regina and all you ladies with kids...I really don't know how you do it!

message 4618: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Highly recommend The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender Devoured it in one sitting. (Pun possibly intended).

message 4619: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I am currently reading The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley and I am loving it. Max is great! Thanks again Leea for the recommendation.

message 4620: by Leea (new)

Leea Hahaha! It looks like a yummy book, Tellulah (pun intended)

Marcella, i'm so glad. I loved Max... How far into the book are you?

Seduced in the dark - um... this is like an emotional roller coaster. I love him, he's mean, I hate him... wait, I love him again. Yikes!

message 4621: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I am on the fifth chapter. Max is just wow. He makes me want to get stranded in the Colorado mountains during a snow storm.

message 4622: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Just finished up Trance (MetaWars, #1) by Kelly Meding which was a book I won't read again. Very cheesy with little character development. The premise of them being superheroes was intriguing but could've been executed better. The romance was silly and not believable.

message 4623: by Pat (new)

Pat Still wading through Beautiful Ruins Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter While I can't say I'm enjoying it, I'm determined to finish. And really can't understand what all the popular buzz has been with this one this summer either.....

message 4624: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene | 3 comments I'm currently reading The Ugly Duchess by Eloisa James and Sweet Deception by Heather Snow. Both books are good and I totally recommend it. :)

message 4625: by Leea (new)

Leea I haven't read any Eloisa James yet, another one to add to the list. haha!

I finished Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #2) by C.J. Roberts and it was good but very dark with lots of plot twists.

Now i'm going to read Slammed (Slammed, #1) by Colleen Hoover because I have the ARC of Point of Retreat (Slammed, #2) by Colleen Hoover to read and review.

Has anyone here read Slammed? I really don't know much about this book but that it's been going around GR For some time.

Oh, i'm also going out with a girlfriend tonight, super excited and looks like we're going to get our nails done, somthing I never do.

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 88 comments Whoohoo Leea sounds like a fun date!! :P Which reminds me I really need to get mine done. lol

I have not heard of Slammed sorry.

R u gna join in the BOTM?

message 4627: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea, my co-blogger read Slammed and loved it. Her review of that books still gets dozens of hits months later. People are searching for it, so I think it may be one of those next big things. I look forward to hearing if you like it.

I started Ashen Winter (Ashfall, #2) by Mike Mullin last night and OH MY GOODNESS it is better than the first one.

I had started an arc Bad Glass by Richard E. Gropp and I am about 20% in but it wasn't holding my interst.

What did you pick? It seems like a few of us are sort of stuck. :)

message 4631: by Leea (new)

Leea I grabbed the second book, Point of Retreat off Netgalley so I figured I better read the first one. Oh, that gives me hope, thanks Regina :)

I have a few ARC's i've requested that I need to read and then i'm not requesting anything for awhile unless it's a must read.

Yeah, Kay, what did you pick to read? I still want to find something we can read together but you've read everything. haha!

I have to tell you what happened yesterday: So my son G, 4 years old, loves legos. I'm making dinner, helping E with homework and I was also doing something eles that I cannot remember now (LOL!) I hear G run into the kitchen crying saying, "I have a Lego stuck in my nose.. MAMA." Well, i'm normally very calm but I took one look and saw that the white lego was really up his nose. I'll admit I started to freak out a bit and yelled at G to stay still. Which scared him a little (I still feel bad for that) When I couldn't get it out with my hands I got the metal tweezers and after a few tries was able to get it out. He jumped into my lap, saying, "thank you mama" and crying. OH. MY. GOD. It's never a dull moment around our abode.

message 4632: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yuck! And I have done that myself with my son (beads), I gotta say my 3 girls have never done that! LOL. I guess he really loves his legos. :)

Me too about ARCs, I am finding myself not liking arcs when I feel forced to read them. And then I am lagging behind on writing reviews.

message 4633: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments OMG...legos in the nose!? Scary! I'm glad you got it out!

I actually started the first few pages of Slammed while in my rut the other day. It seems ok but it didn't fit me at the time. Also, some of my GR friends loved it but they seem to rate 5 stars for everything. So, I'm looking forward to hear what you think, Leea.

I decided to read The Out of Office Girl by Nicola Doherty ...I have a thing for British Chick Lit and celebrities. So far, it's okay.

I think I have some of those same types of friends, the ones who rate the majority of what they read high. It throws me off because then I don't know which books are better than others according to those people. I tend to trust people more who don't rate a big portion of their stuff 5 stars.

Slammed and Point of Retreat have actually both been out for a while, but they were put up on NG when a big publisher picked them up and decided to re-release them.

Buzz books tend to make me pause. Rarely do I find myself agreeing with buzz book hype these days. I am supposed to buddy read one next week and I'm trying to keep positive about it, so I don't go in with a sour attitude.

message 4636: by Leea (new)

Leea I agree, i'm reading them with that same pause too. I have to say when people rate stuff high all the time, I have to take their reviews with a grain of salt. Now, I also make sure and research my books as best as I can but sometimes there's a doozy in the bunch.

I read the first chapter and it's cute, love how Lake is remembering her father, that seems so natural how inanimate objects bring you back to a memory.

message 4637: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Wow, Leea! I'm glad to hear he was fine and he was grateful too! Hopefully he thinks better the next time he gets curious as to whether something fits up his nose. ;)

I think it must a be a boy thing - I don't remember ever doing something like that - but my husband tells me stories of eating dirt because he was curious what it would taste like (he wasn't a baby) and jumping off garages when he was older as initiation ritual for a club he belonged.

Huh? Who thinks that would be fun? Boys obviously.

message 4638: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I have a friend who rates 90% of her books 4-5 stars and I really don't trust her. If she enjoys everything, good for her but I'm really more critical.

message 4639: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Sep 06, 2012 02:19PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I just want to know the subtle difference between books. That's what the rating system is for. Not every book is going to be equal.

To me, 5 stars is the highest rating you can give a book. The top of the line. A lot of books are great and I love them, but there has to be something about the book I'm giving a 5 stars (it really got into my soul) in order for it to make me want to give it the best accolade you can give.

message 4640: by Leea (new)

Leea Boys?? I have no clue. My MIL has many stories about my husband and his 2 other brothers. One had cast on both his arms and then used to torture him. Tie each other naked to the mail box. Order naughty mags and have them send to the uppity neighbor. It goes on and on...

I wonder the same thing, especially if they don't review book. I'm an emotional star rater. I'll admit that, books move me and sometimes i'll rate one higher than the other but I usually can give you a reason why.

message 4641: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments When I first signed up for goodreads, I rated a lot of books 4 or 5 stars just b/c it was so new to me to do so. Now that I read so much more, my standards are a lot higher. I actually went back and downgraded some of the books that I've read.

message 4642: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea wrote: I'm an emotional star rater."

Me too.

message 4643: by Leea (new)

Leea I was the same way, Kay. That was back in 2009 - yikes!! I deleted the twilight books from my read folder because people either hate them or love them and I was indifferent but I was just over the whole thing.

For me, I just think no matter how high/low we rate books here, we should be able to do it without anyone giving us crap. I mean, reading is my hobby and sometimes it's the only that I have for myself, I just don't want to find myself questioning if I should rate something low or not because of the reaction i'll get.

message 4644: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I completely agree, Leea. I think we should be able to rate a book any way that we want. I added a quote below from Stacia Kane which makes me like her even more.

“Readers have the right to say whatever the fuck they want about a book. Period. They have that right. If they hate the book because the MC says the word “delicious” and the reader believes it’s the Devil’s word and only evil people use it, they can shout from the rooftops “This book is shit and don’t read it” if they want. If they want to write a review entirely about how much they hate the cover, they can if they want. If they want to make their review all about how their dog Foot Foot especially loved to pee on that particular book, they can.”

I feel the same way, Stacia. That's why I really wish we had half stars.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I have that quote on my profile too.

Ack, I didn't mean to come across as sounding judgmental. I support anyone's right to rate however they want to. I just know for me, that I have a hard time taking recommendations from people who mostly rate books 4 and 5 stars because I am pretty sure I won't agree a good portion of the time.

I was the same way and I've changed a lot of my ratings since then. Not all were downrated though. I've actually uprated books after realizing that I was still thinking about them, and downrated ones when I realized I couldn't remember much about them.

message 4648: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments You didn't come off judgmental, Stacia. I placed that quote referring to Leea saying, "we should be able to do it without anyone giving us crap. Leea You're not judgmental at all. I'll admit, I hate handing out a 2 star rating, but I also feel that I have to be true to myself.

Kay, I saw that quote on Twitter or something. Love it! So true and i'm glad that she's making that statement as an author. She's really awesome, I cannot wait fot the next Chess and Terrible book :)
