Regina (reginar) I just started reading Giving Up the Ghost A Story About Friendship, 80s Rock, a Lost Scrap of Paper, and What It Means to Be Haunted by Eric Nuzum which I never would have read/known about if it were not offered up on Edelweis. I am only 10% in and it is pretty good so far.

I am listening to Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell which I have been meaning to read for a long time.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I really liked One for the Money too. Sure it could have been better, but it was cute and funny.

message 4553: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Wendy I agree. I really hope the producers make another one. I had so much fun watching it and I loved to hear my husband laughing at it. I was impressed that I accepted all the actors' in their roles and the changes that were made.

message 4554: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I think there were a few things that bugged me. As hot as I thought he was, I don't think he was the BEST choice for Ranger. He didn't have that mix of good guy/bad guy. He felt almost too good, like a cop. And Grandma Mazur wasn't quite as crazy as I anticipated. Surprisingly I didn't mind Heigl as much as I thought I was going to though.

message 4555: by Regina (last edited Sep 01, 2012 05:04PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Grandma Mazur was more together and sophisticated than I thought she should be and Ranger seemed very straight edge, but he was hot and cool. I didn't think the shower scene was as hot as it could be and Stephanie was almost too competent. I also missed her black boots, jeans and t-shirts/flannel shirt. :) I also though Lula and (darn it I forget her name -- the secretary for Vinnie) were more attractive than I imagined.

I think they should have developed Stephanie's relationship more with her grandma and Lula. The stalking by Ramirez should have been more drawn out and scary -- and Lula's attack was nothing like it had been. Oh, and I think they should have had more family meals and at least one funeral home visit. ;) Plus Morelli seemed too old and not as sexy as I thought he would be. I think if they had done this, the movie would have had more meat on it and non-book fans would have liked it more. Sort of like the earlier Harry Potter movies. They cut way too much. But I still enjoyed it and would definitely see the next one if it was released/made. :)

I agree with you completely. Totally. My complaints and stuff had no baring on the fact that I still enjoyed the movie and laughed. In fact, I just rented it On Demand a couple days ago and saw it twice in theater, lol. I must have enjoyed it.

message 4558: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha -- definitely. I am going to watch it again before I return it. ;)

I am so frustrated, I am really enjoying my audio listen but I realize I did not upload disc 5 (there are 16 discs) and I long since returned it AND there is a huge wait for it. :(

message 4559: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's so funny because my cousin was JUST telling me about Cloud Atlas last night and I had no idea what it was, lmao. Now you're listening to it... quite the coincidence.

message 4560: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I tried to read it about a year ago, it was a huge award winner and now it is being made in to a movie. It is really good, but it takes awhile to penetrate. :) It makes me feel smart, haha.

message 4561: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LMAO, that's why he was telling me about it. Said he saw the preview and it looked so awesome. Good cast, for sure.

message 4562: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh! Then I am excited, I am going to wait to watch the trailer until I make sure I understand everything in the book. :) It is really cool, it is a multiple POV and the POVs change instantly, but there is a connection between them -- and it passes through time and through various countries.

I loved the book but I definitely thought that some of the stories were stronger than others. I'll be interested to know which ones stood out (or not) for you.

Tellulah I am loving it. But did you see my post above? I am wondering if I should skip ahead and just miss disc 5? Or try to track down a copy of the book? There is a wait on all book formats at my library!!! And I don't want to buy it just for that small portion. I could just kick myself. I must have just skipped over disc 5.

Because of the interconnectedness of it, I'd try to get hold of the book. I found that it was all quite dense and I think missing some of it would have affected my experience and understanding of it.

message 4567: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished the 9th book in the Stephanie Plum series (and the best one so far) To the Nines (Stephanie Plum, #9) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich.

Now I'm reading Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig by Donald McCaig. It's Gone With the Wind from Rhett Butler's point of view.

That is great that you are so close to it. The food eas making my mouth water. I love food with sauces. They had this one dish with chicken and green olives served with a yellow rice and plantains that looked amazing. Once you do try it, report back. I love Cuban food too.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I finished Rock Chick Regret (Rock Chick, #7) by Kristen Ashley and i think this one may be my favorite book.

Now onto Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh . Looking foward to this one.

message 4572: by Leea (last edited Sep 02, 2012 03:13PM) (new)

Leea Marcella, i'm at 99% and it's so Sweet right now. I have to take a break and do something with the kids - sucks! I did try to hide out in the bathroom but they found me.

I have no clue what to read next. I feel like i've been gone and not reading much lately.

I've missed chatting with you ladies!

message 4573: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments No worries Leea! I knoe how it is with kids. My younger sis has two boys and they are very demanding.

I really loved the book. It really was very sweet and I just adore Sadie.

message 4574: by Leea (new)

Leea I cannot wait for Ally's book. I wonder when I comes out, I have a huge crush on Ren. Should be interesting to see how that all plays out.

Thanks for understanding.

message 4575: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I know Ren is absolutely swoon worthy. I am looking forward to Ally's book. Although I have to say she is my least favorite. She is always so pushy and demanding and not in a sweet way.

I am hoping her book will shed some light on her and make me change my mind. Because as of right now I dont't see her as worthy of Ren.

I would also like to see the author maybe right a prequel to the series as to the "courtship" of Marcus and Daisy. I think it would be a really sweet story. I kind of have a crush on Marcus too. He he.

Nothing to understand. Life happens...just gotta go with the flow.

message 4576: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes, I really want to see Daisy and Marcus before they were married. I never knew what Daisy went through. Marcus is totally one of the Hot Bunch :)

message 4577: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Well the author fed us tid bits of what Daisywent through and she explained how they got together and how Marcus was after her rape, but I want their whole story. I think it could be really great.

I looked up on GR when Ally's book is coming out and it says late summer or fall 2012. So I'm hoping that means soon. But I also read that this book is the the last in this series. How can that be? There are still plenty in the Hot Bunch that need women. Like Bobby....hello!

message 4578: by Leea (new)

Leea I know, I think KA is going to have a spin off with some of the Hot Bunch. I agree, we need Bobby's story. Have you read the Colorado Mountain Series?

I know that KA was having some issues with her computer and her next book Creed (unsung hero series) is coming out later than she thought.

What is the Colorado Mountain series? I have not heard about it. Looks like I need to check it out.

So if KA was having issues that may push back the release of Ally's book. I think I need to go on her site and suggest more Rock Chick books, especially Daisy and Bobby.

Hope everyone in the states has a great Labor Day. Any plans for the day off?

message 4584: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Good morning ladies! I'm back in the land of the living!

I returned to the US on Thursday night but I've been sort of sick - don't know if it's the jet lag or if I picked up a virus - but my stomach has been a bit messed up. Yesterday was the first time where I was up most of the day!

I also had a terrible experience with the cab coming from the airport. The guy tried to drive me around to increase the fare (I live around 15 min. from the airport) and when I called him up on it, he got really angry like he was the one that had to complain! Of course, I made him stop the meter and only paid him what I normally pay (with no tip) and also told him I'd complain (which I did).

message 4585: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Reading wise, I've been all over the place. I'm reading like a million books! During my trips, I started lots of books, read half and then started something else. But I'll try to finish some of them at least.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Welcome back, DG!!! I hope you feel better too.

I have no plans for Labor Day...we just got back from lunch (dim sum).

I finished Rainshadow Road (Friday Harbor, #2) by Lisa Kleypas this morning. I liked it enough to continue on with the series but it's not like the other series that I love so much by Kleypas.

message 4588: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments A query:

Does anyone know a good romance book that has a lot of action in it where either the heroine or hero is a spy or some sort of government operative. After watching Bourne Legacy, I really want to read a book similar to that (and also after seeing Stacia's updated to-read list with this book Blades of Winter (Shadowstorm, #1) by G.T. Almasi ). Also, preferably contemporary/modern times.

I have this book in my TBR pile. I haven't read this author before.

If you like historical start with The Wallflowers or Hathaways. For contemporary, read The Travises. Friday Harbor series is ok but just different from her previous works.

ok. Thanks. I will check those out.

message 4595: by Leea (new)

Leea Not to put you on the spot, Kay :) But what's different? I've read most of her books and loved them but Friday Harbor Series get's mediocre reviews. I've had the ebook for a long time and haven't read it because i'm not sure if it's worth the read.

I'm reading Breathe (Colorado Mountain, #4) by Kristen Ashley and really enjoying it.

message 4596: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea....well, there's magic realism in the Friday Harbor books which I feel it can do without especially how subtle it is. Also, I don't feel like I fully connected to these characters as I have in her other books. I think the characters aren't really special...just characters in a book and the stories haven't touched me in any way. The writing is still good though and her sense of humor comes out in some lines which all gives me reason enough to continue and read more. Should you read it? Hmmm....well, if you like Kleypas' writing style...I say, Yes! Just don't expect to be blown away.

I love the Bourne movies! Everytime the movies come on tv, I can watch it over and over. I still have to watch Legacy. Have you thought about reading the books that the movie was based on? The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne, #1) by Robert Ludlum

message 4598: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Kay - Oh wow! I didn't know it was based on a book! That's pretty cool. And tell me what you think of Bourne Legacy. I might've overhyped it because when I watched it the first time, I was pretty hormonal xD

I wish I could think of a book that would fit what you're looking for.
