Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments oh, i hate it when they start charging for parking. they're thinking of doing that here in galveston. right now u can park on the street right next to the beach. i know galveston needs the money though after Ike so it's pretty understandable.

message 4102: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments What is Cali's excuse other than to charge cuz they can. That is the one deterrent to the beach here. I love it but I refuse to pay for parking.

Before you come here do some research on places you may want to eat and I will make my list of potential eateries.

message 4103: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments haha! sounds like Cali.

sure will. i'll have to ask my cousin about some chinese restaurants. she always went to the best places.

message 4104: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Ooh I love Chinese Food. I will ask around as well for good Chinese places to hit.

What other kind of food do you like to eat? Ooh do you like crab?

Oh, that's good. Thanks for coming back and sharing that with me. I appreciate it. I'm in need of a great HR.

Leea You ladies are making me so hungry... We love In-N-Out and you should see my 4 year old take down a burger all by himself - it's a sight! hahaha!

San Diego has the best mexican food. I went to college there, SDSU

message 4107: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Sounds like my nephew and Tommy's Burgers. That place is like his house of worship. Do you have Tommy's up there Leea?

yeppers, loves me some crab. also shrimp, scallops, fish, crawfish, salmon, etc. i like italian, sushi, lamb dishes, and anything with a sauce. i've become a huge fan of Chopped on Food Network and they always have some great meat on the show. i'm also a huge fan of chicken. chicken sandwiches, fingers, salad, etc. i love pizza, burgers, dessert (cakes, pies, ice cream). with my list i don't think there's anything i don't like. i've even had alligator and frog. hehe. that's what u get when u live in the south =)
although, i wont eat snake or rabbit or cow tongue. i'm not that southern. hehe. and i'm still claiming to be a Californian. i'll almost have lived in both states for the same amount of time.

message 4110: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments They are known for their chili cheese burgers and chili cheese fries. They are really good. I can't eat too much of it because it is so heavy. If you ever come to So Cal you have to try it at least once.

message 4111: by Leea (new)

Leea I've had snake and cactus when I was in Sedona, Arizona with my brothers.

NOTHING is better than Texas BBQ. That's what I miss the most. Mmmm, I miss Brisket and smoked turkey with all the fixin's

message 4112: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Domino...since you love crab, etc. I have the perfect place for us to go to. It is called The Boiling Crab. It is awesome!!! You can get the crab, sausage, shrimp (which has the head attached, sorry), corn and potatoes with different types of seasonings and different levels of heat. When I go there I get what they call the whole shebang (which is all the seasonings in one) and the spice medium. It is amazing! And they have the best lemon pepper wings.

message 4113: by Domino (aka Meme) (last edited Aug 10, 2012 10:40PM) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments ummm, sounds great. and i'm a lemon pepper wings fan.

Leea, i like me some brisket too. i do more of the family bar-b-ques than restaurants. we have a few chains but they don't last too long (in Katy anyway). one place i remember had the best potato and macaroni salads.
Papa's Bar-b-Que is good. they have great loaded baked potatoes.

message 4114: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Ok we have a plan brewing. Just to warn you, the Boiling Crab has a minimum wait time to get in of 1-1 1/2 hours. Trust me when I tell you its worth the wait.

There is a bbq place near the beach I'm dying to try. I saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on Food Network. But I'm sure you living in Texas you have great bbq there.

By the time you leave, we are gonna gain like 20 lbs. Better make sure my gym membership is up to date. Lol!

message 4115: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Texas does have great bbq! I recommend SaltLick which is close to Austin. I posted a picture somewhere (forgot which thread, must be "Foodie Love") of the BBQ pit.

Rudy's is also pretty good (in Austin).

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I so want to go to SaltLick. I have no reason to need to go to Texas right now though. :(

Finished Spark (Elemental, #2) by Brigid Kemmerer which was awesome and am now working on Giving It Up by Amber Lin

haha!! the waits not that bad. here on the island sometimes even Denny's takes that long to get a seat. specially on Sunday's.
i'm so glad i'm not the only one who watch's Food Network. i love Triple D. my mom is like that man is always eating. and the food looks so good. i've even saved some of the websites of restaurants his been to. once i'm done with school and making money i plan on getting my travel on. hehe.
and i'm going to the gym now 3 days a week doing Zumba. it's really fun. i've also just bought some other dvd's for dancing workout on amazon to do on the other days. i'm wanting to do 5 days of workout a week.
looks like i'll need to bring those workout videos with me and do every morning. hehe. cause i love food so much i can't even imagine being bulimic to keep off the weight. hehe

Courtney, i've heard a lot of people talk about Austin having some great restaurants. Guy Fieri has been a couple time too for burgers places. i've only driven to Austin with a friend for a quick stop and didn't have time to check out the eatery's. i need to make a trip up there.

Add Midnight's Wild Passion by Anna Campbell and A Lady Never Surrenders (Hellions of Halstead Hall #5) by Sabrina Jeffries to the list too if you haven't read them. I was glad to read A Lady because it was the final book in Halstead Hall Hellions series.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Domino...I love Triple D too. I have a list on my phone of places I've seen on there that I wanna go to. Lol!

Tellulah...I have wanted to try a food truck but never have. I don't know where you live but here in So Cal they are all the rage. I hear there are some amazing food trucks here but never tried them.

I wanted to see what everyone is currently reading in romance and I couldn't help but follow along your discussion on eatery. I live in Chino Hills and frequent most of these places you all are talking about. I just had in n out a few days ago. Yummy! FYI, the Boiling Crab in Rowland Heights is the largest and the wait time isn't as bad as the other places, especially for 2 people. It's also somewhere between Yorba Linda and Arcadia.

message 4127: by Ali (new)

I thought it would be safe to come back... I'm drooling thinking about all this food! I could almost eat my iPad....

Courtney | 337 comments I've been gobbling up this book last night and my dad had to come in and tell me to go to sleep at 5 am. It was that good. Juliet Marillier just enthralls me with her storytelling. I can't stop reading.

Seer of Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters #5) by Juliet Marillier

message 4132: by Leea (new)

Leea Rudy's BBQ in San Antonio was my favorite. Being a California native and never having BBQ like that, the first time was shocking. I mean, it's a barn with picnic tables and napkins on the was in dispensers. Then you order your food by the pound? What? With white bread, I was lost... Hahaha! It became my favorite BBQ joint.

If anyone is in San Antonio you have to check out Bigz Burgers off the 1604 (Right where I used to live Near Blanco Road on the far North Side of town) They are the best!!

message 4134: by Courtney (new)

I'm up in Vancouver. The food truck thing is in its infancy here but I watch with jealousy about NY and SoCal. Plus am tempted to drive down to Portland where its huge. And Austin. They always seem to be in Austin.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Theresa wrote: "Are Teresa Medeiros' books any good?"

I enjoy them. Perhaps not the most banter-y out there but still more on the witty side rather than earnest, if you enjoy that. Plus nicely steamy. As far as I can remember, all her books have been solid reads for me.

message 4139: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Food trucks are mainly found in Downtown LA cuz its easier for people to get food that work there.

message 4140: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Alright...my notifications suck. I missed out on a lot of yummy convos.

Ali, I hope your day is better today than yesterday.

I love In N Out but don't go as much as I would like. Recently, 5 Guys burgers opened up in my area and it's so good.

I love eating in SoCal, there's just so much there. I always make sure I stop at Porto's whenever I go down. Their potato balls are so delicious!

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm finished Elemental (Elemental, #0.5) by Brigid Kemmerer and starting Storm (Elemental, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer . I'm glad stacia recommended this series. I'm really liking it so far.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Welcome to the group MaryBeth. :)

So glad you're enjoying the series Kay! The author is such a sweet person too. I'm happy to see her books starting to take off.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Also, we watch that Food Truck Race show and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives as well. Any time my husband goes out of town, he looks up triple D and tries to eat at one of the places.

We recently went to one of the places in Denver, the American Indian (that's actually in the description, I'm not trying to be un-pc) eatery and the fry bread tacos were sooooo good.

Caitlyn (caitlynj) Here I was thinking that when I finally take a trip to North America I'll visit some national parks and explore some cities. But it looks like I'll be spending the entire time eating.
